Ponte di Rialto, or the Rialto Bridge, is the oldest and most iconic bridge across the Grand Canal, and it is an essential landmark to visit when in Venice. The bridge connects 2 key districts in Venice: San Marco and San Polo. It was only a 15 minute walk over for us and as we approached I was surprised to see it wasn't just a bridge. There were jewelry shops, leathered goods shops, Murano glass shops, and other different types of souvenir shops. The only downside is that IT WAS SO BUSY. The crazy inconsiderate tourists would be walking and then stopping part way through the bridge blocking the flow of the walk way to talk their photos. I feel like you're obligated to see the Rialto Bridge if you're in Venice, but mentally prepare for some madness. read more

The Rialto Bridge is one of the ICONS of Venice! I was lucky enough that my hotel was less than a 5 min walk. It has a wonderful view of the Grand Canal..but for the best times to see it w/o the countless people taking selfies or blocking your view is to go early morning or late evening after the 'day trippers' leave! Ponte di Rialto, or Rialto Bridge, is one of Venice's most famous attractions. Partially because of its location. As the main pedestrian crossing over the Grand Canal, it gets a lot of foot traffic. And partially because it's a beautiful bridge. I lived in Venice for a month back in 2010 and I've walked across it countless times. I most recently visited it a few months ago and it was nice to be back. Given how picturesque the bridge is, you'll see a lot of people taking pictures. In addition to the people walking through. As a result, things can get quite congested. Be wary of pickpocketers. Be aware and take some pics and then you're done. And enjoy the nice views of the Grand Canal. read more

This bridge is insanely busy and really not worth the crowds. We walked across it, in both directions and only stopped on the return trip because there was a large gap at the top where we could take the obligatory selfie. But we didn't use a selfie stick nor did we stand there for 5 minutes (or more) taking a bunch of pics. We quickly snapped a couple pics and moved on. Tourists should do the same and stop using those silly selfie sticks that get in other people's way. read more

Gorgeous old bridge in a gorgeous town. Full of tourists at all hours. Even though we visited in January it was about half full. You can get a nice overhead view of it from the rooftop of the famous Tedeschi mall. Tickets were free online. Also to get away from the crowds you can go around the corner and down the block to a more secluded "dead end" dock that has a great view looking up at the whole bridge. read more

One of the most popular attractions in Venice. The view atop of the bridge is what this city is all to famous for. If you wake up at sunrise in an attempt to capture a pic before the tourists wake up, folks already beat you to it. Arrive before dawn and someone is already there but at least you can take turns without the insurmountable crowd pressure. Crossing the Grand Canal it's architecture is stunning and can be seen in may of the shots of this city. the problem is the crowds. it is simply packed most time and the insta crowd will park in good spots for a while as if they were Ansel Adams taking a selfie. this makes the bridge difficult to cross as it slows everything down. Ponte di Rialto is one of the most famous landmarks in Venice. It looks much more impressive than the one in Las Vegas! Lol! The bridge is very busy at almost any time. We were here in the middle of November. Not the busiest traveling season. The bridge was still packed with people who wanted to take a picture. Including myself, of course :0) Both sides of the bridge is hectic because all the tourists are looking for a spot for a picture. The middle section is very nice if you want to use the bridge for what it is for - crossings the canal. Many shops are open in this part of the bridge. You can enjoy the shopping experience right in the middle of the bridge with your family or friends. Ponte di Rialto is also an excellent location to see the sunset in Venice. So beautiful! INCREDIBLE views on either side of the Rialto Bridge, but it's similarly scenic from other bridges in Venice. Go if you're an architecture nerd and want to witness a specific landmark in history, but otherwise this isn't really worth pushing through insane crowds for a few pictures. I could feel my blood pressure rising as I got closer. Anyways if you're staying in the area, perhaps visit the Rialto Bridge at different times of day and make a whole adventure out of it by browsing nearby shops. read more

There was a TON of people just chillin' on the bridge! On the list of things to see on the island was this famous, enchanting, symmetrical bridge. Rialto crosses the Canal Grande and offers some stunning views of the canal. The architecture of the bridge itself offers another extraordinary view. There's always a crowd on and around the bridge, so getting a true selfie is unlikely during peak hours. This stone bridge is not that big and there are way too many people standing around on it, making it very difficult to get good photos. Luckily when we came the bridge was not crowded at all; probably because it was 7 PM and COLD outside:: Shrugs:: Yes, it's loaded with tons of shops, but it's the perfect place to stop and spend some time looking at the life in the Canal. Even take the time to watch the gondola's and the water taxis ride by. There are different varieties of shops along the bridge, however, most of them were pricey. If you are looking for souvenirs, you may be able to find some reasonably priced ones around the area. You can view this bridge from many different angles. My homegirl had this place bookmarked in our itinerary and I am so happy we had the opportunity to get a view of this beauty. I promise if you show anyone a photo of this bridge they will know it's in Venice. Interested in getting up close and personal? You walk up from the left stairs and in the right middle section are nothing but shops. If you are taking any of the gondola rides, you will most likely see this bridge. Unfortunately, this bridge is not the best for wheelchairs or strollers as there are no elevators to get you to the top. I recommend coming to see this bridge at night! I was in Venice in the summer of 2019. Venice is in the north of Italy but during the summer months it has all the heat and humidity of say, Florida. Being in a city of canals and lagoons does not seem to help. The Grand Canal is 2.4 miles long as it winds in an "S" shape through the city. Near it's center you will find the Rialto Bridge. It is the oldest bridge in Venice and connects the Sestieri and San Marco districts. Originally a pontoon bridge in 1173, it was reconstructed as a wooden bridge in 1255. By the 15th century the bridge already had two rows of shops built on the bridge for commerce. The present bridge is a single span with inclines on both sides. Antonio de Ponte designed it and construction began in 1588 and was completed in 1591. It has a central portico with merchant shops on both ends. Most shops carry trinkets and tourist souvenirs with the exception a fine jewelry shop called (Le Perle) which has hand-crafted pieces of unique one-of-a- kind designs. Many tourists like to dine near the Rialto Bridge especially at lunch and at night. If you are so inclined you will probably require a reservation after the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided. Prices are higher near the bridge but not outrageously high. I gave this 3 Stars because there are so many wonderful places to visit in Venice and the Rialto Bridge to me is an average experience. read more

However, it tends to be so packed with visitors that it's often difficult to get to the railing and be able to see anything. I made my way to Rialto Bridge with two friends around sunset on a late October day. It was absolutely gorgeous. The bridge itself is a sight to behold, and the views of the Grand Canal make it a great spot to linger. The bridge was crowded when I was there, which it always seems to be, but not so badly that I couldn't pause and enjoy the views from both sides. I loved seeing the lamp posts turn on as the sun set, watching the people enjoying each other's company and a glass of wine on the patios at restaurants, and taking in boats of all sorts going up and down the canal. Unless you've been living under a rock, you would know that the Rialto Bridge is one of Venice's most well-known landmarks. Built in 1591, it is the oldest of the 4 bridges that cross the Grand Canal. It is significant in the sense that not only does it have its own vaporetto stop, if you ever wander around the back streets of Venice "Per Rialto" is one of the signs that can guide you to wherever you want to go. The bridge has three walkways. Two are located at the sides that overlook the Grand Canal. During the day it will be hard to even get across the side walkaways, much less get a good a spot and take that perfect photo-op with the Grand Canal as the backdrop. With Rialto being the main commercial center of Venice the central walkway and around the perimeter of the bridge there are tons of shops and restaurants. Proceed with caution as this is a highly touristy area - expect price gouging and perhaps subpar food. As a rule with the exception of one shop I tried to find shops and restaurants in the back streets where I'll know I'll get a better product if not more fair pricing. If you manage to find a gondolier somewhere around the Rialto area chances are your 30-40 minute gondola ride will pass the bridge. My suggestion is to not use the gondolier services at the edge of the Rialto itself, find someone in the back streets. You'll get a more picturesque/romantic experience that way. As with any major landmark in the Big 3 cities, beware of pickpockets. read more

Of course you need to visit it if you are in Venice because it is a landmark. From far way, the bridge looks great but honestly, the inside and both sides is touristic hell, shops, shops and more shops. To me, this represents the ugliest side of Venice, mass tourism at its worst, the Disneyland-like atmosphere, the ugly shops, the street hawkers and scam artists operating while tourists remain oblivious of what's happening right underneath their noses. This is one of the very few bridges that span the Grand Canal and I actually enjoyed riding my vaparetto underneath the bridge instead of walking over it. read more

This is a pretty cool bridge, but then that basically goes without saying when you are talking about bridges in Europe, or at least in old Europe. However, this is a very, very exquiste bridge in the centre of Venice that crosses the Grande Canal. Okay, it may not be like the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, that is crowded full of jewellery shops, but then again it really isn't all that big to be able to do that.
