Entrance to the restaurant

Although we didn't have a reservation the owner made sure to get us a table as soon as one opened up. The restaurant was packed. We had to wait, but it was worth it. Delicious simple food. We had the octopus salad, the fried shrimp and a grilled fish, everything was perfectly seasoned and yummy. Waitress was very nice and the restaurant patio very cozy.

Sizzling lapas platter

We rolled into this place for lunch on our very first day. We landed at 7am, hopped into a rental car and slowly made our way up to Furnas. As it was way too early to check into our hotel, we thought we'd come here to grab lunch. It's a very cute and relaxed place. Everyone was very friendly and spoke English well. We had our very first lapas here and they were amazing! They were brought out to us on a hot sizzling platter, with lots of garlic, butter and lemon. I mean how can you go wrong. There's also a "make your own salad" bar, where everything was extremely fresh. So why only four stars you may ask? Well for the main course, we decided to order the stewed octopus, and I guess that after trying it, I definitely prefer to have my octopus grilled. I'll chalk that up to a bad order. There was lots of great looking grilled fish options on the menu that I probably should have tried first. Don't make my mistake. I would have loved to come back to this place a second time... If I did, I'm sure I would have had good reason to upgrade it to five stars. We tried on our last night here, but were thwarted by police blocking the one and only road down to the town. It was not meant to be. We'll always have the lapas.

Chargrilled Splendid Alphonso. Incredible! Although I wish they had left me the fins/tail...

We chose Ponta do garajau for Dinner for our first night on the Island and it exceeded expectations. Start with the house made soft white cheese with fragrant and slightly spicy sweet pepper sauce and house marinated olives with garlic. (They bring them to the table but you can refuse, DON'T!) Next was an Azoran delicacy, the Lapas or limpet clams. A full tray broiled with butter garlic and lemon, such a fresh taste of the local climate. While the wine list was broad, the house wine was some of our favorite, don't skip it just to have a bottle of something on the table. My wife had a wonderful cut of swordfish, steaky and tender seasoned well with with garlic butter and lemon. My chargrilled Splendid Alphonso was one of the best dishes I have eaten. Top five for sure. Flavorful and tender, not fishy, super fresh. Treated with a garlic lemon and sea salt that played with the intense smoke of the grill to elevate the dish to four star standards. I could not believe the dish I had, especially for the price. If you are in the area, on the island, or maybe even a quick plane trip away, this is well worth your time. Enjoy!

Located in Ribeira Grande, the restaurant is run by a local agricultural society supporting farmers and showcasing regionally sourced Azorean beef, widely recognized as some of the most tender on the island. While it wasn't the very best steak I've ever had, it was still a pretty enjoyable meal, and I left satisfied and full. Veal Medallions: my favorite dish of the night -- flamed in an addictive pineapple-cognac sauce and served with mixed veggies and fries. this sauce was so good i was dipping literally everything in it -- the medallions, the veggies, fries and even the tenderloin below! Bife à Associação - Steak Lombo (Tenderloin): served in a white wine, garlic, and salted pepper sauce, topped with a fried egg. we initially debated the sizes, but 200g was plenty for us to share along with a 2nd dish. the sauce was a bit bold and peppery for my taste (I prefer sweeter sauces like the pineapple cognac), but my bf enjoyed it. for those who arent into the peppery flavor, the steaks also come with multiple other sauces -- passion fruit, island cheese, three pepper, and more. For dessert, there were numerous tempting Portuguese classics but we were stuffed and decided to keep it light with sliced Azorean pineapple -- a refreshing way to wrap up a hearty meal and a perfect choice if, like me, trying the acclaimed local pineapple was high on your to-do list. A surprise standout was the white sangria -- my first time trying the white version, and I loved the bright, fruity flavors. It's nice that they offer it by the glass, so you can mix and match if your party has different preferences. The venue is open and spacious, with lots of natural light thanks to large glass-pane doors that offer a view of the quaint outdoor patio. Despite some of the service complaints I'd read, we had a smooth experience. Food came out promptly, and while the restaurant was clearly busy and staff were spread thin, we were proactive about getting waitstaff's attention so fortunately didnt encounter any issues or delays. Overall a solid, well-priced spot with a convivial dining atmosphere and quality meat dishes. If you're someone who loves classic, no-frills salt-and-pepper steaks, the saucy Azorean spin might not be for you -- but if you're up for something bold and flavorful, it's definitely worth a visit!

Thus I cannot attest to their full plates. But I can with their smaller ones, and each one is a winner. Every meal in the Azores will be preceded with bread and cheese. O Corisco's was the best we had. Most places do the typical mushy and bland queso fresco that gets old quickly. Here they provided us a plate of hard cheeses and tons of bread, which were so good we didn't leave a crumb on the plate. Their Caldo Verde soup with diced linguica is pretty darn good, as is their small place of fried linguica and mushrooms. The highlight here though is their little lounge area near the big-screen television. It's not just a restaurant, but also a place to chill. Beer is cheap too. What is not to like?

I called and made a reservation for 6 and we pre ordered three cozido's . If you want to have this for dinner, you must pre order ahead of time as they only make a certain number of them. The cozido is a combination of vegetables, sausages and meat baked together like a stew. One of our party was vegetarian, so we ordered a vegetable only option, which came with "vegetarian sausage". I must say, it is certainly more food than we can eat! We figured a cozido was good to split between two, but we had so much left over. The food was great and you must try since they cook it with the thermal natural way this town is known for. The ambiance was great, modern, clean and amazing views of the town. There is a small outdoor seating option if you'd like to sit outside. I highly recommend making reservations regardless when you visit this place. Service was great, very attentive and pleasant! Also the price for the meal was relatively inexpensive considering we had multiple bottles of wine along with our meal. I highly recommend this place!
