Carlos is a magician, and his staff is amazing. This was, by far, the best hair experience I've had in my 40 years. Carlos is fun, sassy, and a master craftsman in this business. When I walked into the salon and saw the decor and the enormous Christmas tree he designed and decorated himself, I knew I was in the right place and in good hands. He puts all of his creativity and energy into creating the perfect look. He was born to do this! It takes 1-2 months to get an appointment with Carlos himself, but it is well worth the wait. The other hairdressers in the salon appeared to be doing a wonderful job on their clients, as well. I have A LOT of hair, but he managed to do all-over highlights and lowlights with foils, cut, dry, and style my hair in 2 hours. Other stylists have taken 4-5 hours in the past for a less than satisfactory job. As long as I am fortunate enough to have him here in Johnson City, I will NEVER go to another salon for my hair. He is the shit. And I think his price is VERY reasonable for the level of service I received. My advice: make an appointment now, be patient and think about what you want your hair to look like, and then go to him and trust in him. If he makes suggestions, listen to him. The owner here is ok . However he needs to watch his front desk closer , as it is such a nightmare to go there. The two women up front are so rude and make you feel uncomfortable. They ruin your whole experience which should be relaxing. They do not value their clients and that reflects on the business. They save cancellations for their favorite clients or friends. It's so stressful. It is just completely not worth going there as they take away the high end experience which I feel a salon visit should be. read more

Carlos owns this place, and he is the shit. He is not for the faint of heart (or the conservative), that is for sure. I remember the first time I had my hair cut by him, I nearly about passed out in the chair. Rather than methodically cutting my hair and measuring out inch by inch like most stylists, he was like Edward Scissorhands- shears and hair flying everywhere. It appeared that he had no method to his madness, but my hair had the best style that it had ever had. He's made me look good in any hairstyle- long hair, short, bangs, no bangs, etc. Carlos has a way of combining what you ask for with his own personal flair in a way that really suits your face. He's also the go-to guy for color. I've asked for color before that Carlos has straight up told me would wash me out, and then altered it to what he thought would look best- and he was always right. Things to know: It takes FOREVER to get an appointment here. You need to call a month or two before you think your hair might start looking bad, haha. Also, this place is expensive. I think I usually pay in the $130 neighborhood, but you get what you pay for. I like to have him give my hair the initial style, and then I'll pay someone cheaper to maintain the cut for a few months. Overall, love this place! read more

I was visiting a friend in town and desperately needed a color and cut. My hair had previously been colored auburn. It now had a ton of greys and the auburn had transformed into another color altogether. I looked on yelp and found Ponce. I asked if they had any openings they had a 2 o'clock with Vernica . I figured I had nothing to lose, my hair was pretty bad. She did an amazing job, with the cut and color with highlights . So: after reading good reviews about Ponce studio I decided to go have a haircut and hair color. Never got an appointment with the owner(fake VIP behavior) They booked my app with one his assistants. The haircut is ok, the stylist wanted to save her time so she decided to use straightener for my hair, since the dryer takes time. She didn't bother herself to ask me how i prefer the hair brushing. My hair was simply dark brown and i wanted a bit darker brown. The result is black hair with patchy brown !!! What a cheap service?! They charge super high prices and they did a zero star job. I travel 2 hours to get my hair done by Carlos. I have had highlights done by him for my wedding and he did an amazing job. He is the only person I trusted to chop off my hair lol-----from shoulder length to short pixie cut! It can be pricey, but if you bring in an idea of what you want, Carlos can do it (and if he doesn't think it will suit your face, etc, he will tell you and then recommend something that will.)
