Vodka Cream Pasta (recommended)
Elvis T.

Vodka Cream Pasta all the way. Don't do lobster mac and cheese.. just get the pasta. It was super delicious, lots of sauce if you're into that. It comes with a little chunk of bread, but I also ordered Garlic Bread with Marinara which was good as well. There is actual garlic bits in the bread which was so delicious. Can't wait for the truck to stop by ARE again!

Tried this place out during Food Truck Fridays in Balboa Park. I got the lobster mac and cheese and honestly I was not impressed. There seemed to be barely any lobster and the "cheese" sauce reminded me of an alfredo-esque sauce, which is fine because I like alfredo, but I was expecting Lobster Mac and Cheese which was not really present in the dish I got. Overall, I was disappointed with my meal and probably will not be back here again. It's a bummer because I was really looking forward to loving it!

I am a lover of Italian food so decided to try this one for Food Truck Wednesday. And I am Soooo glad I did!! I had the Lobster Mac and Cheese and it was so creamy, flavorful and satisfying. I was happy with my choice however I hear the Pizza is Bomb so I'm adding that to my list next time.

I really like this food truck. Not gonna lie, it's not the best pasta I've had but it's still really good. I always get their vodka creme. The sauce is delicious! The noodles were a little undercooked but it's better than soft noodles. I like that the food is always fresh and piping hot! My container was condensating so much from the heat that it left a small, warm puddle on my desk.

Caught them at Balboa Park's Food Truck Friday's! I got the Pasta al Pesto and my friend had the Truffle Mac n Cheese (added chicken). Total came to $25. They also have sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and desserts. Food came out in 3 mins... absolutely scrumptious! I enjoyed every bite of my pasta, as did my friend. Neither of us could stop talking about how great it was! 10/10 would recommend!!!

Italian food truck. The long red truck has been coming to my workplace for a while now but I decided to give it try today. Pomodoro Rosso offers a range of options like Paninis, salads, and pizza. I noticed their special of the day was an Italian sausage sandwich. The sausage was imported from Chicago. It was pretty good, but it would have been nice to have a small side of something like chips or an Italian pepper mix. In any case, it was tasty. I'm happy they included the one cherry pepper because the sausage needed something extra like mustard or that pepper. - They might need to think about getting their menu on a sandwich board or something. You have to walk to the ordering window to see the menu on a piece of posted paper. - Same people that run Stella Italianfare UTC. - There is something good here and I can't wait to try one of their pizzas.

We had them cater an event at our apartment property and they were a breeze to work with! Our POC, Matteo, was a great communicator & he was quick to respond via email. The quote that was presented to us was the amount we ended up paying, no hidden fees or surprises. Matteo was professional, punctual & friendly with our residents, and followed necessary safety measures during COVID. They offered a variety of pasta options and came with bread & a side salad. Everything was delicious!! Matteo even offered a personal dessert for my husband and I at the end of the event and their chocolate roll is to die for...seriously the best dessert we've had in a while! We would highly recommend them to anyone!!

I'll keep this short and concise. The Pasta dishes are the bomb! I got the Lobster Mac&Cheese and the Vodka Cream Pasta. They are both super good! Skip the Garlic Bread. They are okay but not great. Can't wait until they go back to our Office Plaza!

I had a great experience having a delicious food truck dinner yesterday evening at the Pomodoro Rosso Italian food truck in the Cevita Park in Mission Valley San Diego. When my meatball sandwich was very reasonably priced, and served piping hot with amazing melted cheese and covered with marinara sauce. Quite an opportunity to enjoy a stroll in the park and eat a top-quality sandwich on a chilly SD winter evening before the sun set.

Got the lonster mac'n'cheese, super plain. Hardly any lobster-more like crumbs. I had to add more salt to give it flavor.

Sad meatball sandwich.

Food truck Friday. I was feeling the carb-o-load, so I decided to try Pomodoro Rosso. This Italian food truck serves up classic versions of sandwiches, pasta, and pizzas. I kept it simple with the meatball sub. Key word being simple since it rivals the one you would get from subway. Tasteless bland ball of mysterious meat accompanied by a sauce that reminds you of Prego. The one part of the sandwich that was amazing is their bread. It was the right ratio of crunchy and soft pillowy greatness. I heard the same response from others that tried the chicken parmesan, lacking in the flavor department. I wonder if the pizza was a better option but I feel that I would be back where I started.

I love this food truck! Pre-COVID, my work would have a rotating schedule of food trucks for lunch. This is one of the ones I always went to. They give you large, delicious portions of pasta with a generous amount of cheese and sauce. Their pasta comes with a slice of bread. The service is always quick and easy, perfect for lunch time! Truffle mac is my favorite. :)

Truffle Mac n cheese
Tanvi R.

I got the truffle mac n cheese and through the yelp check in offer I got a free portion of cheesey garlic bread. The food was really good and worth the price. I didn't like the marinara sauce that came with the garlic bread though! Would definitely eat here again!

One seated, we were approach to get beverages ordered, and informed that our assigned server would take over to get our food orders. The menu consisted of authentic Italian appetizers and meals. The ability to learn about different types of noodles, and select for our meals, added to the experience. In addition to noodle selections, we were also able to select the sauces that would accompany the dish. They all sounded unique and delicious. The Impepata di COZZE was our appetizer selection and had fresh mussels, white wine and garlic amongst other fresh ingredients. Serving size was more than enough for our party of 2, and was not able to finish in anticipation of our meals. For my meal, I ordered the Malfalde pasta with Funghi sauce. Sauce consisted of creamy fresh Cremini, shiitake & Porcini mushrooms, parmigiano, crispy Parmigiano, crumble, parsley. Added shrimp to complete the meal. Mafalde pasta was long and had a ribbon appearance similar to lasagna noodles. The ingredients spoke for themselves. Freshness throughout each and every bite! Will definitely return the next time. I'm in the San Diego area. The bar for Italian cuisine has been raised substantially!!!

Restaurants and bars filled to the brim. Lack of street parking availability. With that being said, after circling around for a while, I found a free parking spot on the street five minutes away by foot. Ambiance (4/5): While Bencotto has a nice interior, I went with some al fresco dining on their front patio. There are 20 or so seats available right off the street, so it's not a large patio by any means, but it's nice. The weather was a little chilly by San Diego standards, so they had some heaters out there. It always reminds me of Europe when I'm dining al fresco. Service (3/5): A little slow at times, but overall, pretty good. My waiter was friendly, he just could have stopped by a little quicker. Still solid though. Drinks (4/5): They have a nice selection of wine. I ended up rolling with an Italian beer I had never had before instead. It was a lager and they served it with a chilled glass which is always a nice touch. Food (4/5): The reason I came delivered. Their most popular entree is pasta cooked in a cheese wheel. The pasta is in a creamy truffle sauce with mushrooms. No protein but you can add some for an additional charge. I added grilled chicken. What's awesome about this dish is that they cook it for you inside by the hostess stand. So you can go there and see it happening. My server didn't give me a heads-up (shame on him) but luckily, someone at a table close to me did after me, so I joined to see their food being prepared. I also ordered the gnocco frito which is puffy fried bread. You get four pieces and I had never had this type of Italian bread. Not amazing, but it complemented the pasta well. All of their pasta is made in house and you can taste the difference. The cheese wheel pasta was absolutely delicious. I was pumped to cross this bucket list item off my list.

One thing we learned: if you decide to make a reservation here, especially on a weekend night, arrive early to accommodate the time it takes to find parking. The restaurant does not have its own parking lot, it's street parking-only and space is tough to come by. We circled around for at least 15 minutes before securing a spot and wound up a little over 20 minutes late for our reservation. Thankfully, we still had a table set up and waiting for us. It was very busy when we walked in, it appeared as though the restaurant was near-capacity. The restaurant has a nice, rustic charm to it, but I'll admit some of the charm is taken away by the crowd of noisy people. The restaurant space is small with as many tables and chairs that can possibly fit, which inevitably means tables are very close to one another. It would help if the restaurant acquired a much larger space, or if it got rid of maybe 30% of the tables/chairs so that seating could be more spaced-out. Service was initially slow, but understandable considering the completely packed venue. Our servers were incredibly friendly and provided exceptional service. They were patient and informative in answering our questions (particularly about the "cheese wheel"). We ordered the house specialty bread with 3 different spreads as an appetizer, the lamb shank was my date's entree choice while I ordered the pappardelle pasta with short rib. The bread was truly excellent, we both devoured it. My dish was also excellent, the short rib was very rich and flavorful and the pasta was cooked well. I tasted my date's lamb dish, which I felt was bland compared to mine and I wasn't crazy about it. My date seemed to enjoy it, though. We were too full to order any dessert, so I can't speak for their desserts. The food I did try was mostly amazing. We will likely be back, although we might try coming on a Monday or Tuesday night to avoid the crowds and have an easier time with parking.
