Came here recently for my birthday and plates are definitely shareable. We ordered the calamari, which was cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. I love nachos, so we tried the Italian Nachos not realizing how huge they were! That was a meal in itself and definitely shareable. Husband wanted a seafood dish and they didn't have many, so he opted for the lobster ravioli. It was a bit salty to our liking, but creamy and tasty. I got the braised rib pasta, which was a little bland for my liking. So we mixed the two sauces together and it worked out well for us. Our server was amazing. She was knowledable and very attentive. We were so full by the end of the meal and had plenty leftover. Which she helped pack and made sure I was able to bring a birthday dessert home. We would come back to try other dishes whenever we are in the mood for some good Italian dishes. read more

The best Italian beef sandwich on the planet!! Very bold statement, but 100% truth! Great meet texture and flavor, great au jus, great roll! 16 bucks with house made chips, fries, or pasta salad. LOVE THE CHIPS!! You better sit down for what I am going to say next!: on Sunday's it's only 8 bucks!! With the side! This is literally the best food deal on the planet!! Great spot! Haven't been here since it changed hands from Ciao Bella and glad to report we had an awesome time. What you'll notice first is the atmosphere has changed a lot. It's more like an Italian eatery mixed with an upscale sports bar. A weird combination in theory but the way they did it really works. They also have video slots if that's your thing. Servers were super friendly, helpful, and attentive. They got us several drinks and all of them were well-crafted by a fun bartender (whose beard was on point). The bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops we got as appetizers were SO GOOD. They also serve bread with olive oil and Parmesan as a free appetizer which was very nice. Between our table of 8 we got many different meals: the ones I can remember are pizza, chicken parm, the mussels, the pork chop, and chicken Alfredo. I didn't hear one complaint, everyone loved what they got. I can't eat dairy so I unfortunately couldn't join in, but everyone else finished the night with peanut butter chocolate pie and homemade tiramisu and those were a big hit. Especially if you haven't been in a while, I would definitely recommend checking this out! We had a great time here and are excited to come back. read more

What a shame. I was excited to try this place based on the glowing recommendation from close friends. The standout were definitely the meatballs - incredibly delicious! Brodie provided exceptional service - friendly, patient, and kind throughout our visit. However, the Alfredo didn't meet expectations; it resembled buttered noodles with chicken that had tendons and grit, leaving me quite disappointed. On a positive note, the pizza had great flavors, although it could have been cooked more thoroughly in the middle. We opted for takeout to enjoy our meal at home. If they improve their Alfredo to have that authentic, flavorful touch, and cook their pizza so it's not soggy in the middle, I would definitely consider giving this place another chance. The potential for a great dining experience is there, especially with the friendly service and standout meatballs. I truly wish I never wasted my money here. A loss on $70. read more

We've lived near Rockford for many years but had never been to Pomodoro. We will be going back! The food and the service were outstanding. Our waitress, Deb, went above and beyond! We received our salads and bread soon after ordering and our entrees arrived soon after finishing our salads. Deb made sure our drinks were always full and she was very personable. She didn't realize she had a table when we arrived, and we had waited just a few minutes. She offered us a dessert to share for our initial wait, which we told her she didn't need to do. Cheeseburger was obviously cooked from frozen, very dry and tasteless. Even the bun was hard. Fries were not really french fries. The kicker was that this meal totaled $60.00. I don't know what happened in the last year but had dinner here last night and it was so bad. The crème of mushroom was obviously from a can and it was ridiculously salty to the point of not being able to eat more than three bites. The Alfredo was tasteless. I had to salt it so much just for it to be edible. We also had drinks and we all agreed they were more made with syrup and a drop of alcohol. I took home the scallop pasta and again was so bland. To top it off, I ended up being unable to sleep because the sugar rush my body had from the cocktails and woke up with a migraine. I will never come back nor would recommend to anyone. The food and service at Pomodoro are amazing! Every time I come here nothing is missed and the prices are fair. The Italian Mozzarella appetizer is amazing and the salad is enough for two to split. You definitely will not leave feeling unsatisfied. If you have tweens or kids then this is definitely your place. Great atmosphere and good assortment on the menu! Stopped in for lunch. Owner sitting at the end of the bar with his buddies Bartender spilled one of our drinks on the bar, laughed and put our menus on top of the spilt drinks. Both ordered the tomahawk pork chops that were very good when it was ciao Bella. Waited 30 min to be told they were out. Bartender went over to the owner and told him they were out while we were trying our ham and bean soup that had tiny pieces of budding ham in it. Owner went next door to get what we needed. Said 3 min. I thought he might be going to 320 next door and have had good luck with them. Have no idea where he got this meat, but I'm guessing the cemetery near by is missing some of its inhabitants. Stay away, far far away read more

Guess the $20-30 entrees will impress a date, but not anyone who's had elevated (or even home) Italian cooking. WAS HOPING FOR MUCH BETTER I was hoping for a good experience. Atmosphere was pleasant, albeit very loud for a Wednesday evening. We started with drinks, and an appetizer. Our server was bubbly and friendly. Didn't hover and addressed us all equally. She was prompt and attentive. Definitely a plus for the experience. The brochette was average. Well prepared and presented, but missed on flavor and mouth appeal. I was very disappointed in the Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned. Any time I order a name branded drink I expect to be able to detect the named beverage. This drink I could detect bitters, muddled cherry, orange, and sweet simple syrup. If it contained any bourbon, it was of insignificant quantity to warrant the price or title. We had (2) Blackened Chicken Alfredo, and one Philly Cheese-steak with fries. The Blackened Chicken Alfredo presented well and I was hoping for an improvement over the appetizer. The pasta was cooked well, but the Alfredo sauce was a miss. Slightly grainy and the chicken was cooked well but lacked seasoning for a blackened dish. The Philly Cheese-steak was the winner of the night. well made and flavorful. The only detraction was the fries. They had a distinct fishy taste. In my book, fry oil for vegetables should never be used for proteins, most specifically fish. As of the writing of this review, I will not be back for quite a while. Maybe the quality will improve? Maybe it was a very off night. Better luck next time read more

Excellent food and excellent service. We ordered the Prime rib bacon bleu cheese burger, meatball sandwich and a grilled chicken panini. Every sandwich was awesome! Because we ordered more than two sandwiches, they offered us a bottle of wine for a dollar extra - yes, you read that correctly!!! My wife and myself have gone to Pomodoro several times and our experiences have been consistent, so my experience is not a one off. On the positive, the wait staff are very attentive. The mussel appetizer was very good and the complimentary side salads are great. The Promodoro Pasta is best pasta on the menu. It is the only item I order. That is because the other items are poor. The flavors are ok, but the quality of the ingredients are lacking. The Tomahawk chop is 2 little porkchops... My wife has not found an item she totally enjoys. My biggest issue is that they rush you out without letting you enjoy you meal. An example is when dining last night, we order the mussel appetizer. Now we are not slow eaters but half way through the appetizer the waitress brings the salad. We are not even starting on the salad when she brings the entre. You have to ask for bread now. First time here since the change. My wife has the steak pomodoro and I had the maple salmon for entrees. We had the maple bacon shrimp and mozzarella pomodoro for apps. At the waitresses suggestion we ordered a bottle of Mark West red. We both has salads. The apps arrived after complimentary bread, oil and Parmesan. The bread was fresh baked and amazing! Great olive oil and fresh Parmesan! The salads were ample and included candied walnuts, sliced cherry tomatoes, croutons and was one of the best I'd had around. The maple bacon shrimp was just what you'd expect, breakfast surrounding jumbo shrimp. What a neat combination! The pomodoro mozzarella was another hit! A seasoned slab Fried mozzarella with marinara. I wish I could've finished it! My salmon came atop mashed potatoes and perfectly done asparagus. The salmon was a healthy sized cut, the potatoes were a bit heavy but tasted good and the asparagus was great. The maple glaze was a phenomenal add and really made this dish a must get again delicacy. My wives pomodoro steak was well done and the cracker top was a really great add! They brought someone else's food out to our table. Never had any refills so went to the bar to get our own. Went up to the bar to try to get our bill. Won't be back. read more

Coconut Shrimp appetizer was over cooked and very tough. Pork Chop with garlic sauce over angel hair pasta was extremely dry and over cooked. Left 2/3 of meal and declined take home boxes. I never do that lol My wives pasta was bland and tasteless and again not much eaten. Seriously, we are not food snobs but for the amount you pay, it was very disappointing. Literally, the BEST steak sandwich I've had in years!!! Ordered it plain with lettuce, tomato, on the side with a little A1 sauce. Today was a last minute decision to stop in for dinner and even though it's Valentine's Day weekend they were booked, but the owner Scott found us a spot. For dinner my significant other ordered the tomahawk pork chop and I had the Valentine's Day special surf and turf. 8 oz filet and 6 oz lobster with other goodies next to it. Came with bruschetta and u got to pick Either lobster Bisque soup or special salad. I'm So happy I picked the special salad. I've never seen so much meat in a salad like that. I can go on about the salad how Satisfying it was. My Valentine's Day special also came with limoncello cheesecake or Reese's cheesecake. Server recommend limoncello so that's what I got. I owe him for that recommendation My Valentine's Day Dinner was only $49 for all that and taste amazing!!!! Had dinner there tonight and was excited about the live music but it was so loud we could barely have a conversation and the singer came and sat at our table to sing directly to us. When I asked him to leave, he touched my arm and asked if he was being too loud for me. It was quite patronizing and I almost got up and walked out in that moment. I had the skirt steak pasta. It was lackluster and missing something. A cheese crumble finish, or balsamic glaze. I don't know. The flavors don't come together. Also, despite asking how I wanted the steak, it was not cooked to my specifications. If you try it out, pass on that dish. It's not awful, the atmosphere is just weird. First time we've ever been here. Food was delicious and service was great! Tammy, our server, was hilarious.

The food is fine. However, the atmosphere and behavior of certain employees is beyond insufferable. We walked in and the bartender, Skylar, made eye contact with us. She kept attending to two guests (a couple who she seemed to know) while ignoring everyone else. Meanwhile, the manager on duty and his son were hustling and doing everything they could possibly do to hold down the fort and attend to other guests. Now, wouldn't you think the bartender would leave her friends behind and help out?! Nope. Not this woman. She continued to curse out loud and be obnoxious with the same patrons and seemed very bothered when the manager on duty asked her to make drinks for a table. I really hope the owner is reading this because he/she really needs to get a clue and hire professional staff. read more

i went to Pomodoro and asked what items were gluten-free. Sadly, the waitress could only recommend the penne, universally available, (and I am tired of it) and so I ordered the "Special Salad." In this town, we have many fine Italian restaurants with good salad. This salad was out-of-control awesome! Honestly, the best salad I have ever eaten. No kidding. Go get one! Two of us ate at Pomodoro's for the first time, and were slightly disappointed. We arrived right on time for our fairly early dinner reservation, and had to look around for a few mInutes for someone to check us in, even though there were hardly any customers there. My friend had the filet, which she said was good, but her mashed potatoes were barely lukewarm. I had the bella rigatoni pasta dish (chicken, mushrooms, onions) which was good except that the chicken was tough. Also it had quite a bit of shaved parmesan (?) on it - and some of those parmesan pieces were quite hard. On the up side, we had a great server- she was very prompt and attentive. So, would I go there again? Yes, I'd probably give it one more try. But given that Rockford/Loves Park has a number of really good Italian restaurants. I would not rate Pomodoro as one of the best. read more
