Although Polo Field at Golden Gate Park is typically a large soccer venue surrounded by a track it became home to 50,000 music fans on 8/17/24 when System of a Down, Deftones and Mars Volta took the stage. More than spacious enough for the crowd, with easy in/out and bag checks, one could potentially complain about the early 10pm ending or 3+ hour merch lines but on the whole everything else was outstanding. Kudos to the lights and mixing team for putting on a show that looked and sounded faultless despite this being the first show of its kind.

Went to take my girlfriend to outside lands over the past weekend. It was our first year going very great place to hold a concert. A lot of open space. Outside Lance does also a lot of community work for San Francisco, which is very good especially the state of San Francisco right now. A lot of great artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, and Chappell Roan killer Mike and other great artist as well. They had a lot of food stands as well as merch. we had a great blast. Great time will definitely be back next year.

During this pandemic, I've spent many days wandering and exploring Golden Gate Park. I've trekked here with Jaime a few times, but it's not our usual route. Funny how sometimes it feels like walking the park seems faster than driving around, especially with the closures of so many roads in the park. It's also a microcosm of what happened in the city with the closures of so many roads and not having been reopened, which totally doesn't make sense. What am I getting at? I came to Golden Gate Park a few days ago and usually park in Stow Lake. However, they closed the entrance on this day as I discovered they were cutting down some trees around the lake. This is upsetting because the trees provide more than shelter and shade to people and nature. But that's the city for you making stupid and idiotic decisions. Don't even get me started on Great Highway. So, I kept driving and decided to park at the Polo Field parking lot. I've only walked this area before, but never actually parked here. It was early in the morning and the grounds were still wet, moist and muddy from the previous rain. Not ideal to walk the dog, so I stayed on the paved path with Jaime. The air was cold, and you could see the breath coming out of our mouths and nostrils with every breathing moment. The rays from the sun peeking through the tall, Eucalyptus trees, felt like a warm welcome with every passing beam. I've walked around the perimeter of the field on a foggy, misty, summer day to bright, sunny and warm fall day. The winter has a crisp air that bites in the morning, so better wear plenty of layers. But don't make it bulky for you may start sweating after a few hundred yards, especially under the direct sun, which still penetrates the cold on a wintery day. It's wide open and very expansive, but at the same time feels secluded. There's plenty of areas to roam and explore, with many trails and pathways connecting the entire park. Fun Facts: It opened on July 4th, 1906 and was originally named Golden Gate Park Stadium until 1936. It originally began as a velodrome and construction began in 1905 at the cost of $50,00. equivalent to $1.45 million today. (That's a bargain by today's standards). It seats 57,000 and is operated by the Parks and Recs Department. Ironically enough, Polo is not often played here or rarely even. It's now a multi-purpose field with 6 soccer pitches, tracks and rugby. It was the original site of Outside Lands from 1986 to 2009 and has held many sporting and musical events.

Appears to be my new favorite place.

The less populated west end of the park...I grew up blocks from the polo field and while not a "regular" the wonderful cuvee of fresh coastal air and horse dung is hard to beat for laps on a bike or more recently brisk walks along the perimeter...good peace and quiet and a surprisingly clean bathroom.

"Kezar Stadium" is usually not brought up in conversations these days considering this place isn't frequented as much as previous decades. Located at the southeastern corner of Golden Gate Park off of Lincoln Way and Stanyan St., this historic multi-purpose stadium that is used for has been in operation ever since breaking ground way back in 1925. Since it was a little early for dinner, I came here on a whim during the afternoon of Friday 11/29/2024 at around 5:00pm. I parked nearby on Lincoln Way but there is a dedicated lot that is adjacent to the main entrance. Much to my surprise, this entire stadium is open to the public while the standard stadium hours are from 6:30am-10pm. What I particularly liked is how clean the grounds are here with an excellent running/jogging track, well-manicured natural grass on the field, a fully functional scoreboard w/public restrooms, and a respectable amount of seating on both sides of the field. From its long history, this stadium once seated up to 60,000 fans from 1925 until 1989; most notably the San Francisco 49ers that used it from 1946 to 1970. There has also been numerous collegiate games held here as well as track & field, rugby, lacrosse, soccer, and much more. The previous stadium was demolished in 1989 and downsized and rebuilt to its current setup that only seats a fraction of what it once seated at around 10,000 fans. These days, the stadium still holds graduation ceremonies, soccer matches, and various high school football games. All in all, "Kezar Stadium" is a piece of San Francisco history as it is located in a much quieter part of the city and away from all the hustle and bustle. All in all, I encourage everyone to check this place out if you haven't already. The grounds are kept very clean while the entire layout (even though this is a very densely populated city) to be spacious and open. My rating, an above average four stars.

I think you do. which is why, roller derby lives again! it is a ridiculously entertaining cross between WWF and NASCAR, with funky, 70's realness, 4 wheeled skates (remember those?) and an enthusiastic crowd which was mostly families and hipsters when i went. roller derby is not something I know much about, I am not the WWF type, and I have never seen the reality show (Rollergirls?) so i was pretty clueless about what was going on--but it doesn't matter. you really don't have to know the rules to enjoy it. Just have some drinks and watch the girls (and guys) in shorts fly around the banked track, knocking each other down and doing a milder version of WWF-style takedowns, complete with skate kicks, flipping out of the ring, and generally scrubbing out on a regular basis. But don't worry, kids, the violence isn't real. The fans (who presumably do know what is going on, unlike me) are very enthusiastic, there is a scoreboard and everything, and the overall effect is the fun part of a sporting event, but on fast forward. and with hair-pulling. Also the skating itself takes talent, and is pretty amazing. And they all have great nicknames. I don't think they sell drinks there (maybe beer?) so make sure you get some drinks beforehand (pick a bar, any bar, on haight street, or kezar pub is right across the street from the entrance, if you like crowded smelly sports bars). or sneak drinks in, there was no security check. There is a parking lot next door, in case you can't find anything on the street. The tickets are around $10, the seating is bleacher style, and if you are from SF, you are rooting for the Bay City Bombers--colors are orange and black, like the giants. Last time I went to root for my friend Ron, #30 (Roll, Ronny, Roll!) and we made our own signs and fit right it. If i remember right, you can get sodas and popcorn there, not much else. For $10, this is something fun and different to do on a Sat night. And, it is over at 10 or 10:30, plenty of time to go out after. The next "bout" is Sat Aug 18th @ 8PM at Kezar. And if you really like it, they have open track times for the general public/ training. There is more information on the (awful) website: baycitybombers.com

Those glory days are long gone and it's now a different world with collegiate amateur sports is now a multi-million dollar industry. However, it's still nice to see local kids play the sport they love just purely for the fun and joy of it. Especially women's soccer. Ever since the U.S. Women's National Soccer team won their first World Cup in 1991. And who can forget the iconic picture of Brandi Chastain removing her shirt after making that penalty kick to clinch it in 1999? Ever since then, the game of soccer has exploded, particularly with girls' soccer. Lots of soccer moms driving their kids to practice and games in their minivans was a common scene in the suburbs. Nowadays, the minivan has been replaced by an S.U.V., but the same scene is playing out. Negoesco Stadium is the USF Dons' playing field, or should I say pitch? Named after their legendary coach Steve Negoesco. Home of both the men's and women's soccer teams, it's also utilized by USF students for numerous activities and even a local semi-pro soccer team. Renovated in 2000 to expand the sitting capacity to 3,000. The pitch also received an upgrade of the astro turf in 2016. It only cost $10 to watch a soccer game and you get a free mug, which has been pretty handy. There's also a community feel watching the games, and they are entertaining. I have to disclose that my niece is a starting Defender for the soccer team so that's my incentive, but whether you know someone on the team is irrelevant since the games played are highly-skilled, fun and competitive. But indeed I returned but 1 hour later- not for more movies, no. I've had my fill of those for a while. No, sir. The siren's song which called my name was the salted Popcorn special, A Heated Hotdog, and a cold drink of water. I was welcomed back by the staff and they even let me eat my bounty in the lobby. I played another round of Attica to boot and then I engaged a short and confident staff member with devilish good looks and freckles in riveting conversation. I told him about a dream I had. In it, I ate my hand, then my arm, and my shoulder and chest. Before long, all I saw was blackness. I dreamed in pure blackness for hours, unable to wake. He only allowed me to stay and speak to him for a short spell though before asking me RESOLUTELY and PROFESSIONALLY to leave again. Talk about a tight run ship! That guy is manager material. But at 7 pm I once again heard the siren's song and drove the 1 hour back to the Balboa. My new friend was gone, Christian I think his name was.
