I stopped by Pollo Tropical in Sunny Isles Beach on the way home from work for dinner. This was my first time in a Pollo Tropical and I went in the restaurant and studied the menu for a few minutes. The employee at the counter greeted me very dismissively and took my order and acted like she was annoyed that she was having to work. I ordered the BBQ pork platter with two sides (yellow rice/veggies & black beans), for around $8 or so. I also added a small side of sweet plantains for around $2, and started with a small Caribbean soup for around $2. I ordered my meal to go and also went to the sauce/salsa bar. The bar was very messy with sauce on several of the utensils and sauce on the counter. My meal was prepared, and an employee called my number and threw my bag on the counter. When I got home, the food was surprisingly good for fast food. BBQ was very flavorful and tender, and the sides were all pretty good. The soup was actually outstanding, and had a lot of flavor. If the service was better, I probably would have given them 4 stars, but it's about what I would expect for fast food service. Great job on the food though! read more

There was a great salsa bar, with all kinds of sauces including a pineapple salsa and a cilantro garlic dressing. Prices are very reasonable, they have coke zero, and the service was very impressive. There was only one lady working the counter but she was running two registers so she could help two customers at once. And she was polite and friendly and didn't mess anything up. And when I went back up for a drink refill a guy came up after me and tried to get helped first. A different employee was polite to him but made a point to help me first. This location is lacking heavily. It's tired looking and could definitely use a deep cleaning and some fresh paint. There is an air vent above the counter where you pay and get your food that was dripping water (or something) every few minutes onto the food, which is just nasty. Also, there was a young lady working that prepared at least five orders without wearing gloves before she finally put a pair on. I was disappointed by the lack of attention to detail because they messed our order up. When it was brought to their attention, they were nice about it and did fix it without any hassles.
