It was literally shaking my windows on the fifth floor. I called the police department. It is now 930 and the guy is gone and no-show. Not a call not a response at all. Totally useless. Dogs are up here every day of a week unleashed and I've probably seen a police officer up here twice. There are a few officers on the force that are not honest. I have a girlfriend who drinks and drives quite often and the Ogden Police Dept covers up for her because her husband was a police officer. Just like most Ogden Police Dept has some bad seeds.

People were making comments in line with my thoughts, and I decided to call and ask if they could do a wellness check. I explained everything, and the dispatcher was extremely nice to me. (Not something I'm used to here locally, sadly). I left my name and number but asked to remain anonymous should the person they are checking on asked. I spent probably a good 5 or so minutes on the phone with dispatch. A bit later my phone rang, with an unknown number. I had a feeling it was related to this, so I answered. It was the officer calling me back to give me an update. Also something I am not used to here, locally. I am so appreciative for everything related to this. From the second I called to the time I hung up with the officer. Everything was ok - but had I ignored my feeling and something happened with my friend, I never would have forgiven myself for ignoring my gut feeling. Thank you to the dispatcher, and officer for everything. You are amazing. And thank you for everything you do, every day. You are all true heroes.

My job as an investigator in the private sector means that sometimes I have to send the bad guy or girl to jail. People steal and if they didn't, I would probably be doing something else for a living. As a professional interrogator, I have learned that people steal out of need, greed, and opportunity. I get the "need" and even "opportunity" reasons. But when a suspect takes advantage and gets greedy, then I have no choice to get the local PD involved. My company has a good history with the Layton City Police Department. Anytime we have an issue and their assistance is needed, they're always quick to respond. Keep in mind, I work in Vegas too and sometimes PD response is over an hour. Layton is quick. I was recently at the Layton City Police Department to file charges against a couple of thieves. I came prepared with their confession statements, video evidence, and paper trail. The process is simple here. There's a phone at the station that I had to pick up and talk to dispatch. Dispatch took my info and sent an officer to meet me. I met with the officer and we discussed my case in the interview room. I could tell that the officer was very interested in my case. He took my evidence, wrote his statement, and gave me the case numbers. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. It's a breath of fresh air when I deal with PD that's willing to take one of my cases. In SoCal or Las Vegas, a lot of cases get dropped because PD either takes too long to respond or have bigger fish to fry. I like the fact that Layton is a smaller city. UPDATE: Just spoke with an officer who informed that:…read more 1- he " can't compel" the building management to watch nor submit the surveillance video of the theft AND if the police department were to receive the video... 2- he doesn't have time to watch the surveillance video of the day of the theft because I don't have an exact time frame [it's an 8-9 hour window] and it seems this police department doesn't have the technology to fast forward videos. Unreal. ______________________________________________________________ I had a very disappointing experiences with the Salt Lake City Police Department's non-emergency dispatch while attempting to file a police report. During my first call, the dispatcher who answered was extremely rude. I asked to speak with someone else as she was obviously having a bad day, she said no one else was available. The next mornining, after completing the report by phone, I received an email stating that I also needed to submit an online report. I followed the instructions and completed the online form. However, after submitting it, the confirmation page instructed me to call the non-emergency number again. When I called a second time, a different dispatcher answered, and unfortunately, she was just as rude and dismissive as the first person. I explained that I was following the instructions of the confirmation page. Dispatcher: But, why are you calling?!? I know the site told you to call you [yes, she really said that] But WHY are you calling?!? I'm confused. - Sounding bothered as well from the moment she picked up the call. I was simply trying to follow the department's instructions and properly report a theft, yet both interactions made me feel as though I was inconveniencing the staff by asking for assistance. People contacting the non-emergency line are often already dealing with stressful or upsetting circumstances. They should be treated with basic courtesy, patience, and professionalism--especially when they are making every effort to follow the reporting process correctly. My experiences with both dispatchers lacked all three.

Even though the complaint was completely legitimate and justified it was never followed up on and I doubt it's even officially filed.

" Really makes me re-evaluate things in a different light. When you have staff that are there just for a pay check " you lose compassion ", and sometimes it's just that bit of compassion that people need to see things differently. I'm 46 to old and way to smart to keep this drama going the world has much more to offer. I've been in and out since I was 18 and just that stay and that generosity " that sparked a change in which I intend to embark on. " The world needs more people like you guys the jails around the US needs to adhere to your work ethics and open mindedness. The officer that came out sat in the boiling sun busting his butt to help me. I really can't thank him enough for just being willing to try to help me and working so hard to do so. I can't say enough about the compassion and kindness of the officer today.
