Another year and I'm still going strong with AFC Fitness. I come for the group fitness/yoga classes…read moreand truly feel that they are some of the best around. Some of these instructors are far better than at most gyms. Barre Fusion with Sevon gets me revved with amazing music, challenging strength not with heavy weights but with body and/or light weights and plenty of reps, alternating with fun and relatively easy dance/aerobic moves. If you can grapevine, you can handle it. And there is zero judgement or ego here. Everyone is just doing their best at their level. While the Studio A floor is newly updated (yay!), I would love if they added a real barre in one of the studios. We use chairs but it would make a difference to the movements. Sevon still keeps Barre Fusion amazing. She is conscious of body alignment and form, with safe, smart Pilates and dance moves. Noah's Hatha and Gentle Yoga classes are doable and challenging for all levels. He has so many years of experience in yoga, breath work and alignment that makes his classes the safest and wisest ones. He cues poses by discrete anatomical descriptions. For those who are paying attention, this is the difference between passive or mindless poses and active, thoughtful postures and a decent amount of effort. It's called architectural movement for a reason. I have left many a Gentle Yoga class feeling sore and/or sweaty! You don't need to be flexible do yoga, you just need to be open to learning. Marc's Gentle Yoga classes are also extremely safe, can be modified, and light and fun. His sense of humor reminds us that life doesn't have to always be so serious, and he always keeps the vibe focused and positive. The cleaning crew in the women's locker room are kind, diligent and deserve a huge shout out because they work so hard. Jivali studio could really use some TLC in terms of ventilation and humidity control. Perhaps even some fans when it is really warm. I still wish AFC could spend some time updating the equipment in Jivali - more thick blocks (most yoga students seem to benefit from these than the smaller ones but there aren't enough for a class of 16), cleaner and new yoga blankets, yoga straps for all. Bolsters would be amazing. It's evident that students don't wipe down or spray the equipment after use, which given the atmosphere of Jivali, seems useful. All told, AFC Fitness is still a great place for classes. The front desk staff are always so friendly. Melissa has a smile on her face every time I see her! The community feel of this gym is still very palpable. It's a bright part of my world. The free 30 day trial is worth your time.

I started out taking Johns Tuesday and Thursday class offered at 11:30 am. After 4 weeks I felt the difference in the way my body moved, it was more flexible and there is a calmness that I now experience. Johns choice of music, his readings and yoga practices has made a tremendous positive difference in my life. Johns' yoga class is the best, I recommend this class to family and friends. They have all old cracked yoga mats, a mix of lights that are flickering or no glass covering. There is only one stair climbing machine that is very old. A number of pieces of equipment had no signs or the adhesive left from where the sign once lived. I wanted to like this gym but yesh, you're going to charge me $70 for this? (Or whatever it was bc there was no document with the prices, it was all verbal.) High price and a shit box, not worth it. They really need to upgrade equipment or cut prices.

Two may be a bit generous for this sweaty little gym on Main Street. Sweat (so appropriately named)…read moreis depressing. There always seems to be a leak somewhere in the ceiling, there's always a TV, stationary bike, or treadmill on the fritz; and ever since opening the Pole Dancing studio (brilliant idea by the way) downstairs, which always seems empty, all of the equipment has been crammed onto one tiny floor. I'm basically paying (alot I may add) for convenience. I love the fact that I can walk to the gym and not hassle with the stress of parking and traffic. Some more positives: they have an amazing personal trainer on staff. Although working out with him felt like an hour long torture session, I was pleased to see that after a few months I could finally do more than a few girlie push ups. I can't recommend the personal trainer here enough. Additionally, although Sweat is filled with young Manayunk peeps, it somehow avoids feeling like a meat market (surprisingly so). So although I feel like I'm paying close to a fortune to work out here, perhaps Sweat isn't so bad..

The location is far off the beaten path, and with good reason. When you are in the flying trapeze rig, it is nestled into a tree-lined area in a relatively suburban location of Philly. This makes it adorable and charming, but, if you have allergies or sensitivities to outdoor buggies and things, just be careful. I might have had some bites that made me very uncomfortable later. During the sessions, I loved it. The staff here are kind, supportive and helpful. They are skilled and talented. It is more fun than you could imagine, so just try it out! They provide incredible feedback, so, just wait for it. Very helpful! I didn't try anything but flying trapeze, so I cannot attest to the other classes, but if I were in Phily for more than a day trip, I would absolutely try the other options for aerial and circus arts. Flying trapeze is so much fun, and in this tree-lined area, it feels very much like being in someone's back-yard as a kid flying around with an exhilarating feeling of freedom. Don't fret - the staff will keep you safe as you soar, literally, to new heights. Parking is not in a lot but on the street, so good luck finding street parking. There are lots of streets around, you just might need to walk a few blocks. Totally worth it though! Bring water and snacks if you want to stay hydrated and might run low on your energy. The building you enter to check in is an old-fashioned building made of stone, and it has a cool feel to it. Love this place!

I came here by public transportation from Old City, Philadelphia on a Tuesday evening in late June…read more2022. It took almost an hour for me to get there with all the transfers but the public transportation section of Google Maps made it super easy. If you're staying in Philly without a car, which I would highly recommend, you should get a Travel Wallet/SEPTA Key Card. The SEPTA App makes it super easy to reload money into your Key Card as you use it throughout your stay. I took their intermediate fabrics class and had a terrific time. The class was the right level more me as I had told them my prior aerial experience through email before registering for the class. I told them I can do a few straight arm inversions, a triple star, wheel-downs, and have been doing aerials silks for 3.5 years at that point. If you have trouble registering, just email them and they are fairly responsive. Rachel taught the class and we did a 5-minute warm up on the floor before some shoulder shrugs and a warm up climb of choice before jumping into the sequence - pretty appropriate for an hour long class, in my opinion. They have a communal rosin container for people to share and everyone wore their masks throughout the entire class. They even have a communal water fountain. I forgot to bring my water bottle but when I asked Rachel for a disposable cup she went to the back and found one for me - such a life saver in that humid heat. It didn't look like they had air conditioning but their windows are open and the fans did what they could. The space looked like an old church that was converted into a circus school. The ceilings were very high and the space was big enough to have two other classes going on at the same time. I learned a lot from Rachel and would highly recommend it if you're looking for a circus class to take in Philadelphia.

5-star learning experience with Nick!…read more I'm 27 years ago and have always been super anxious about driving so I never actually learned how to. I'm glad I found Nick and the Pennsylvania Driving School. I passed the road test on my first try with Nick's help! He is really patient, understanding, and supportive. He taught me how to not only pass the test but also know how to drive safely and confidently in the long run. He'd pick me up on time for every lesson, go over the car dashboard controls, let me practice driving especially right/left turns, and explain what to do in certain scenarios. He has a foolproof method for parallel parking that I was able to understand and succeed at right away. I took the test with him as well and I'm glad I did. He picked me up at 6:30 in the morning and drove me to the test site to practice on the exact routes that the test would be on. I finished everything and got my driver's license at 9am! I never thought this day would come but I'm proud of myself for overcoming my driving anxiety. Thank you Nick a million times for your awesome instructions and for giving me the freedom to go out there on my own and explore!

I feel like he's condescending at times, but I wanted to learn so I suck it up. I took 3 lessons with them and I still feel like I can barely drive. He spent 1 hr 30mins just telling me where are the 12 blind spots on the car, the controls in the car and explaining the details of the RECEIPT!!! 30mins driving around and around a parking lot. Lesson 2 - Dave picked me up and finally found a better parking lot. Spent 30mins going through everything he told me on the first lesson. 30mins driving around the parking lot. 50mins finally driving on the road! Lesson 3 - Dave picked me up and took 30mins to find a good place to practice (back to the same parking lot). Spent 30 mins in the parking lot trying some angle parking. 1hr on the road. No parallel parking just because there's snow on the curb. After 3 lessons (6 hrs) I expect to know more about driving and parking. I feel that there's a lot of wasted time on my dime.

I wouldn't recommend booking with this company if there's any chance you need to cancel…read more I scheduled with them and approx 5 hours later called to cancel because my son had already set up a drivers test appointment elsewhere. They were pushy and pretty insistent that I keep my appointment because of "high"PayPal fees. This rubbed me the wrong way because none of this is posted on their website. Was also told I needed a supervisor to discuss any refunds. She didn't call. When I called back the second day she was again very off putting and warned me of a heavy PayPal fees for getting refunded but didn't know how much the fees are. Now mind you, I didn't use PayPal at all I used my credit card but was told they use PayPal as a third party. (Cop out excuse) and also somewhat shady because any legitimate business would have their own business bank account which doesn't need a third party. I was charged a $35 refund fee. When I called PayPal to ask about this fee they said they had no record of this payment whatsoever and if they had, fees would be on the merchant and not the consumer. This feels like a company who no matter what will take a cut of any money they can get. I will be disputing the final $35 with my credit card company not because of the money but on principle for this shady deal. SIDENote: had a great experience with Defensive Driving Academy and was a fraction of the price that these scammers charge. UPDATED: the owner of this business did contact me and gave me a the rest of my refund. It was obvious she cared to make this right and assured me that she would be communicating with her staff regarding customer service. I appreciated that and have respect for her making good of this situation. She clearly understands good customer service and wasn't wasting any time to resolve this matter.
