Very poor response time when trying to reach director. I left three messages. Finally, a staff member suggested email if I wanted a response. Extremely slow response when due a refund. They state it will take 45 days to receive a refund. We have been waiting 71 days. Very frustrating. They certainly would not wait 71 days for a payment. read more

We moved my mom there after years in actually a more expensive facility in Florida to be near family. I hated the facility in Florida, and after my experience in Florida, I was amazed at how much better Poets Walk was. Poets Walk was wonderful! Their director, Mark is incredible, he greeted my mother, he would make food in the dining room, dancing and singing to the residents. An organization takes its cue from management, and management is kind, has a huge heart, and a strong work ethic. Kind of cool, close by is a nice art gallery, three restaurants, so you have places to take elderly people in wheelchairs without a big deal. What more can I say? My father lived for almost 3 years at Poet's Walk. The care takers, nurses, concierges, and the director were attentive, sensitive, and responsive. I inevitably lost my father to Lewy Body dementia. I cooperated with the Lou Ruvo center for brain health in Las Vegas. I sincerely recommend Poet's Walk for anyone considering placing a family member in their care. read more

My mom went into Poets Walk before the pandemic. We were promised a lot and the residence did not get what they paid for. The room was ok but there were no activities to speak of and they stopped taking residence out in the community. They started out having a lot of activities but that changed to very few activities after COVID. My mom was left in her room to sit and watch TV or in the big room with no stimulation. The staff were nice but not educated and did not know how to care for her. The Staff lacked the experience, often did not put mom's dentures in her mouth, sometimes it looked like they were not bathing her because of her greasy hair, they did not often dress her appropriately for the weather, and they allowed moms drinks to run down her top as she was having a harder time eating and drinking. I not only had problems with the facility I had a hard time getting my refund from the company. We were told it takes 45 days to get our refund. It took 51 work days to get my mom's refund (over two months). After 45 days, I called daily and left messages with corporate but nobody called me back. I finally talked to accounts payable after calling her two times the week before leaving messages and no phone call was. I got the money back because I was persistent and the last time I called I reached her and then is when she sent the money the next day. Poet's Walk is not worth the money. Your parent is not important and the money is the only thing that is important to them. Management and corporate both do not deal with the problems instead they pretend there is nothing wrong. There is never enough staff for the number of residents and staff is changing all of the time. read more

Created as an expert in memory care, Poet's Walk excels in their mission of respect and dignity for all residents. Residents are living a very social life with the engagement staff. The care staff are empathetic and loving to the residents. The true compassion of the staff is heartwarming and when there is a problem it's addressed quickly, empathetically, and professionally. read more

My mother-in-law passed away at Poet's Walk in January 2022. She went unresponsive one day but the family was not notified until the next day, so my wife and her siblings who live out of state were not able to travel to be with her at her bedside to say their last good-byes in person. To add insult to injury, the credit due for the balance of January after she passed away has still not been refunded two and a half months later. There is no dispute about the amount to be refunded. We have left message after message but it is almost impossible to get anyone to call you back from Poet's Walk in Henderson or at the corporate office in New Jersey. When you do get ahold of someone they just pass the buck on to someone else. Very frustrating. High turnover of personnel and lack of responsiveness sure makes it appear that the company is in trouble. I would not put anyone in their care now. read more

My mother was at Poet's Walk. In the beginning it was good, in fact almost excellent. Then staff and management became complacent with care. Laundry stacked up, toilets backed up, floors were dirty, food requirements were not met. I took pictures of these items and still have them. Was told they would be handled, then it happened again and again. The activity schedule was a joke. It states the same every week. We were told activities were based on mental capacity of residents. I personally observed a resident trying to eat a checker off a game board. Had to find someone to get it out of his mouth as activity personnel didn't observe what was happening, they were in the director's office chatting. Some care givers were excellent, others just filled a position and ignored the residents. Once COVID hit it was a mess. Dementia patients locked it their rooms with no contact. This is contrary to everything about dementia patients. It took almost 3 months to do a zoom or FaceTime call. Reason not enough staff.. Only 15 minutes per family, only once a week. Try explaining to a loved one you haven't deserted them. The rooms were not maintained, laundry stacked up during the lockdown. Residents not provided adequate assistance to eat, needed to finish fast as not enough workers. For a facility "specializing" in memory care they were totally ill-prepared, not just every day but much worse during COVID. They allowed outsiders to tour the place, but not family to see their loved one. All about the money. Ask for information or need data the answer is always "my pleasure" or "I'm on it" and nothing gets done. Definitely not recommended for the cost. We were scheduled to move my mom when she passed away, almost $7000 a month and the care was sorely lacking. read more

My husband was diagnosed with Dementia over Christmas. I tried to take care of him at home for several months. I wasn't sleeping as he also got up at night and was doing things that weren't safe. I found mention of Poet's Walk Henderson for Dementia Care. Our family went up to LV to check out if this was a good fit for his care. It was more than a good fit! They really care about everyone. You can feel the warmth and love given out to all of the residents. My husband wanted to stay and he is participating in all of the activities they provide. I cannot say how grateful I am to have our prayers answered They have a 24 hr Nursing Staff and an excellent Physician. We were able to leave him in their care and know he is safe and happy. read more

My rating would be minus 5 if there was one. My mother was there for 5 months. Poets Walk, and Mark Shaffer are in the business of making money, not memory care. They have a vast turnover in help. Care partners are taking care of, at times, more than 8 residents each, and more often than not, work double shifts. Mark only cares about turnover and will promise you everything to get you in the door, once in, it's onto the next victim. $2000 just to walk in the door. I often found my mom in wet pants, afraid to drink water because she didn't want to sit in wet pants. She needed to have her food cut, paying $500 extra a month for level two care, and rarely had that happen. Residents, due to being hungry, picking up their food and chewing it like animals. In fact, Mark treated his dog better than the residents. They promise you bed alarms alert when a resident gets out of bed, not true. They could not or would not tell me that information. Mom fell, four times while there, and of course, no record of alarm alerting them. In Marks own words told me when he sees me walk in the door he sees his "mortgage payment". I had to hear about mom throwing up, from other residents, nurses, did not tell me. Heather Tussing of Spring Hills, Vice President of Assisted Living Operations, at their corporate office, tells me she stands behind the services they provide. I told her that was just it, "services, were not provided". Mom was evicted from Poets Walk because I held them accountable. I was told by Mark Shaffer, in front of the states Abudsman, that, if I wanted information about moms care, or to view video of the hall, to see how often she was checked on, the night mom fell, that I would need a subpoena. Knowing the whole time, how long that would take. It was easier to have us go away, instead of handle the problem. Mom is 82 years old, was alone in her room, fell, crawled across the floor, in pain, scared, trying to get help, no one checked on her till morning, and they couldn't open the door because she was on the other side, on the floor, blocking it. NO ONE CHECKED ON HER ALL NIGHT. They claim they claim to have information of the alarm going off the day before and the day after, but no recorded information the day of her fall. How convenient. Trust me, they did us a Huge favor, but not before taking moms money. It's head em up and move em out, literally. Unless of course you happen to die first. Spring Hills, Poets Walk, and mostly Mark Shaffer should be ashamed of themselves. Mom needed level two care, paid dearly monetarily and physically. I only have one thing to say to Mark Shaffer, "Karma". read more
