Very cool artists that create magical and original paintings with spray paint, some newspapers,…read more sponges and various misc. tools (like a ripped piece of paper out of a magazine or flyer), no brushes, but anything they can get their hands on within reach. Watching this in action is down right amazing. Karissa is the artist that painted the "fantasy themed" picture for my daughter. She was awesome, approachable and fun to watch. She listed to what my daughter wanted ... My daughter picked out the color scheme and the type of style she wanted which was fantasy based. The painting was painted on poster board. The size my daughter picked was approximately 14" x 22" and the cost was $30.00. With that in mind Karissa worked her magic and entertained the crowd that quickly gathered around to watch. It was a live art show that definitely entertained. So if you are in the area at Pike Place or at the Aquarium look for them. They are pretty much a street vender that sets up directly in front of the Aquarium. If you don't commission them for your own piece of art stop by to see them in action and if you are lucky enough to catch them in action throw in a few bucks in their tip jar. They have other pieces to choose from on their wall for purchase or you can find their story online at: theartsurgeon.com. The online website has video and other cool things to learn about their talent and how the art of spray-painting got started. The website looks like they offer all types of things for purchase as well like T-shirts, hoodies, phone covers, tote bags, etc. Check them out. While on the street - they accept cash only. If you want to hire them out for your next Corporate event; they do that too! According to their website.

For my wedding gift to my in-laws, I had an interesting idea: since a part of my wife's family is…read morefrom the Indian state of Kerala, I wanted to give them something meaningful, and get a calligraphy print of my mother-in-law's favorite Bible verse written in Malayalam (the primary language spoken in Kerala). However, I ended up frustrated after reaching out to various calligraphers with no success. I ran into roadblock after roadblock, as Malayalam is not an incredibly widespread language and most calligraphers A. don't take commissions in languages that use different scripts than English, or B. are willing to try it, but for a much higher price and with no guarantee that the finished product will turn out as expected. After months of searching, I was referred to Menakshee Designs by another calligrapher who had been unable to take the commission, but said that Srujana may be able to help me. A few weeks later, I had two completed prints that were miles above anything I thought I would be able to have done. Srujana did such an amazing job. The customer service and attention to detail was astounding throughout the whole process, from ensuring that the commission was completed, shipped out, and received on time (even when it was on short notice) to making thoughtful suggestions like including a specific type of flower significant in Indian weddings - something that I wouldn't have even considered! Through every step of the way, she was communicative and offered me options so that she was sure the work was exactly what I wanted. My in-laws (and grand-in-laws!) were thrilled when I gave them the finished product, and they have gotten nothing but compliments on the framed prints that they now have hung up as a centerpiece in their living room. This was six months ago, so this review is much later than it should have been (the months after a wedding can be hectic!), but I wanted to do my part to support and draw attention to this amazing artist. I would not hesitate to urge anyone who is looking for amazing customer service and outstanding results to give Menakshee Designs your business, and I will be doing the same to every member of my wife's large family once wedding season starts in a few months!! Thank you for everything, Srujana - I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to work with you again.

I found Menakshee Designs on Yelp and scheduled a call with Srujana. Srujana couldn't have been nicer and agreed to help me even though I only gave her a week's notice. She worked diligently throughout the few days we had to get my cap finished for graduation. In the end, my cap looked beautiful and I received many compliments. My family and extended family loved the design and we plan to have my cap framed now after Srujana's beautiful work. I highly recommend Srujana and plan to use her services again in the future.

One of the country's finest wildlife and portrait photographer is Art Wolfe. His works are…read moreregularly featured in top magazines like National Geographic and are housed in some of the most prestigious galleries. Seattle is lucky to have him as a resident and if you aren't familiar with his name, then surely his pictures of animals (like the smiling baby fox with a flower in its mouth) or his shots of Patagonia will. He's been around the block, circled the globe, and has managed to open a gem of an arts gallery & studio over in the Pioneer Square area. (it's about a quick 3 minute walk from the square itself, but if you've got a car, it's probably easier to use as there's lots of parking around.) The gallery has sweeping large windows, which allow a lot of light in - they do a great job selecting some of his works where you can view them, undisturbed, and there's museum-quality benches for you to sit. It's hard not to notice the Japanese-influenced design in this 2-floor gallery (shoji rice screens and light colored hardwood floors and trim are readily seen throughout the place). While traveling on business, I made a point to block out some time to visit the gallery, which was opened in the last few years. I've been a fan of Art's for many years and learned a bunch of great tips from his photography books (check out the one he did with John Shaw - awesome primer about landscapes, aperture and lighting). There's a great selection of ARt's books -- some of which you cannot get on Amazon. The best thing about them is that some are indeed autographed by Art and if not, you can place an order (in person or online) and his staff will be sure to get the book(s) personalized. Such amazing service without any sort of price gouging. I can't say enough good things about the service - knowledgeable, personable, and not the least bit pushy (which you often find in art galleries around the world.....and I've been to many of them and felt very disenchanted at such places). You can buy original and limited edition prints in multiple sizes - and subjects range from people, landscape, wildlife, to macro shots of flora & fauna - the ones I saw were about $195 and I'm sure there are variances that are lower (smaller prints) and upwards & on. There's also a nice selection of notecards and greeting cards (done in partnership with Colorado-based company, Leanin' Tree) Were I a local, I'd probably sign up for those photography workshops, which seem to cover everything you might want to learn as an amateur photographer (i.e. Photoshop, LightRoom, lighting, basic tutorials ). Seattle - this is a total lucky diamond - visit, enjoy it, and support your local artists.
