A stand-out if only from the standpoint of its having anchored the local art scene for decades now…read more I always felt it was head over shoulders compared to its competitors. The high ceilings and spaciousness of its warehouse-style space contribute to a viewing experience unlike that of the galleries in Pioneer Square proper. Knowledgeable, friendly staff of three. The outdoor gallery on the second floor towards the back is outstanding, with its haunting brass (or copper) scupture by Will Roninson, set against a view of the steeply rising embankment/Firehouse/southern view towards King Street Stataion.

The reality is they were extremely far away from my camera, and nowhere near being visible in the shot. On top of that, I was questioned about shoplifting while I was just minding my business with a small side bag. It felt like I was being singled out and profiled for no reason. The interaction came across as very passive-aggressive and honestly felt like racial harassment. No one should feel watched or accused while just existing and creating content peacefully. This experience made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, and I hope management takes situations like this more seriously in the future.

Placards describing a work's history and symbols are cool; artists going on and on about how "transformative and vulnerable" their art is--kinda different vibe.

It's located on the other side of Meany Hall in the University of Washington campus and has all sorts of cool stuff to check out, like paintings, sculptures, video installations, and performance art. They always have new and exciting exhibits featuring artists from all over the world. The displays are really thought-provoking and explore a bunch of different themes, so there's always something interesting to think about. The building itself is pretty cool too. It's made of a bunch of different materials like concrete, steel, and glass, and it lets in a ton of natural light. Walking through the galleries is a chill and relaxing experience. Their special exhibit was the "Thick As Mud" which was quite revealing and subjective. Besides the exhibits, the museum also hosts a ton of fun events and workshops.

I love Handmade Showroom! I make it a point to stop here every time I'm in Seattle and I always…read morefind a gift for someone here and my cats always get a little something. They have a great cat/dog toy section! The store features art and goods from local artists and there's so much cute stuff. I can easily spend 15-20 minutes perusing all the goods. I found the employees to be lovely whenever I visited. They sometimes would tell me about an artist if I'm looking at their wares and I love hearing more detail about things but I never felt pressure to buy anything.  Also they sell anything under the sun here from jewelry to vases to clothes to things for kids and babies. Great variety. I found a random darling egg sticker for my friend who loves eggs and my friend found these cool mushroom magnets for her sister who loves mushrooms. See, this store is amazing!  Pacific Place is a shell of its former self. A lot of the stores have closed and it seems like most people who do come here are coming to eat at Din Tai Fung or HaiDiLao but if you're in this mall make sure to stop by the 3rd floor and check it out! Highly recommend it! There's something for everyone. Also can be a fun way to while away some time if you're waiting for your seat in the above restaurants.  Also I just learned they have a website  https://thehandmadeshowroom.com/ so apparently I don't have to be in Seattle to shop their goods! Free shipping on orders over $50.

If you haven't visited before, you really should!!! Pacific Place might seem a bit empty right now…read moredue to: a 'rebuilding' phase, but there's a hidden gem you need to discover - The Handmade Showroom. Prepare to be amazed by this store filled with treasures from local artists. It's the perfect spot to find items that will impress your Instagram-loving friends, who love selfies and followers. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a curated selection of handmade jewelry, bags, soaps, spices, cards, chocolates, clothing, pillows, pet supplies, and kid-friendly items. Boom, instant Christmas gift giving! Don't hesitate to inquire about the latest arrivals and popular items; that's a surefire way to boost your 'Likes' on social media, as you impolitely take pictures of stuff that other people will love to receive. In all seriousness... The Handmade Showroom is a wonderful small business that celebrates and supports local artists and craftspeople. It's definitely worth your time.
