My friend and I have been taking annual Pocono trips for some years now and we've been to two other shooting facilities, both of which were quite enjoyed. We were planning to return to one of them but their website was crashing and burning to register for a lane as they would not take reservations over the phone. So, we decided to try a new place this year, Pocono Pistol Range. My son came over to meet us and we all had a good time. You can complete all the waivers online or in-store and also watch a required safety video for those not members. Pocono Pistol Range is completely open to the public. It also appears to be first come first served for lanes. They have rentals for all types of weapons and also sell all the coolest looking firearms. They also have safety equipment and targets and loaders and whatever else you could need. The younger staffer at the front assisting with customers was a bit gruff, but accommodating. We had gotten there when it opened at 10am. My friend and I had weapons and safety gear, but my son needed ear protection as he had never shot before. I asked about a lesson, and the staffer said only he and the Rangemaster were there and they both had to watch their sections. Another staffer was coming, but he did not know when. For the lane rental, targets, and earplugs, it was $53 for my kid and I. We went upstairs. Once we got in the range, I explained to the Rangemaster that my son had never shot before. He asked if he wanted some help and I said we'll take whatever assistance you could give. He showed my son the basics for about 10 minutes and my son had a really good center grouping for his first time. The Rangemaster asked if it really was his first time. He told him except for shooting some BB guns in Boy Scouts, yes. The people in the lane next to us in heavy accents told my son that the target's pants would be full of s--- after those shots. The Rangemaster also helped with some issues with the weapon (wasn't holding it firmly enough) and my son, friend, and I had a great hour shooting. My kid said he might like to buy a weapon now and do this some more. The Rangemaster was extremely helpful and competent. He paid attention to the others on the range along with making sure all were safe. We had a very good experience and would come back. read more

terrible experience, we spent $400 with no hesitation and the staff had the nerve to charge me $200 for a "bracket that needed welding" because the shotgun we shot bent the bracket backwards. The instructor told us to put the target as far back as allowed intentionally, giving near impossible range to shoot the shotgun accurately. The kickback on the shotgun forced the bracket to bent backward, while the bracket is supported by a screw and a bunch of electrical tape. All the slots were damaged severely, seeming like a trap for tourists to cough up $200 for absolutely no reason. The staff was very rude about it, showing no appreciation for customers, seems like they dont like people that are not locals. There was 0 effort of solution other than yelling at the customers for absolutely no reason. I would never walk back in here, go to sunset hill instead, they are a lot better and cheaper! read more

Lets stop the BS with a hole in plastic target hanger & the $5 dollar charge after spending hundreds of dollars. So petty ! The online reservation and paying for your time was a bit confusing for a newbie. A lot of nickel and diming. Once the paying part was done, it was a pretty good experience. Only one person watching two rooms, but he was as helpful and attentive as could be. I'm going to check the other local ranges and see how I like them. I guess try it for yourself but I can't say, I recommend. FYI my mother said she had trouble hearing for a couple days afterwards. The earplugs weren't as effective as earmuffs. read more

I am a member of this range. Not much to glow about. I go, I shoot and come home. The place could use an update the hand crank target system works but can be iffy at times. Some of the range safety officers are great others not so much. One in particular helped me out on one visit. The front sight of my weapon came off while shooting and RSO helped me search. He ultimately found it under a table inside of an empty cartridge. The front office crew does their job and are professional. read more

Came here while on a trip to the Poconos. When we walked in, they asked us if we'd been there before ( we hadn't) and they led us to fill out two forms and watch an instructional video. They directed us to choose our guns and gave tips on how to hold the gun and shoot. They were all super friendly and helpful! We picked out target papers, put on the ear covers and glasses, and they led us into the range. They showed us again, how to hold and shoot and told us to press the intercom button if we ever needed help. We shared a pistol and bought 100 rounds. We were there for maybe an hour in total? Our gun jammed twice but they were super nice about it and fixed it for us, directing us on how to prevent it. Would definitely come back if im ever in the poconos! They told us it would be cheaper as well, as first timers had some fees they had to pay (for the instructional video, etc) read more

I called on Wednesday to make an appointment for Thursday at 11:00 and arrived about 10:45 to watch the mandatory video and complete the waiver. I came with the intention of renting many different guns because I want to buy one soon so want to see what feels comfortable however the gentleman behind the counter said they're out of 9mm ammunition and only had one bag each of (10) .38 & .45 rounds and one bag of (50) .22 rounds. Very disappointing considering I drove almost 100 miles however in these crazy times I should have asked about ammunition as everyone is hoarding plus at least Pocono allows people to rent when they're alone. Overall decent place that's indoors however I wish they'd allow rental of as many weapons as you want. read more

I was highly disappointed with the fact that I was upcharged on a transfer fee($30 to $55) of a brand new glock 43x MOS because supposedly they had the firearm in stock at their store. The whole thing was absurd to me because I was only using pocono pistol range as my FFL to receive my firearm. What they sell or have in stock has nothing to do with my firearm. Pardon my language but that was total BS!!!!. I would definitely and personally not use them again as a FFL for any future firearm purchases. If anyone is planning to use Pocono Pistol range as your FFL, would strongly suggest you call ahead of time and find out if they carry the firearm that you need transfered so that you don't get surprised with the $25 transfer fee upcharge. I have to say, I was very impressed by the employees and the range in general. As a first timer, there was an instructional video, about 10 minutes. $9.95 and is mandatory for your first time. Afterwards, you just sign in every other time. I brought my own gun and ammunition, (recommended since ammo is a bit pricey). Range price is $18/HR which is reasonable and I went on Sunday afternoon. Wasn't too busy and was able to get a lane right away. I had a great experience for my first time and personnel was very helpful. I will definitely be coming here again to shoot my weapon. This is absolutely one of my favorite places to shoot at. The staff are professional and friendly and they really make the atmosphere a great place to shoot. So on the real. If you are a first timer and you have ZERO experience with firearms fear not. There is absolutely no judgment here at this place. They teach you everything you need to know. Firearm safety, how to load and handle the weapon ect. If you are new to this and wanna see what the fuss is about bring a MINIMUM of $80. That should cover the mandatory safety video, pistol rental (1 hand gun) a box of 50rnds of 9mm, ppe (ear and you protection) 1 paper target and a lane. Dead ass. Ammo goes quick. So bring extra $$$ If you are a gunslinger you can bring your own gear. However there are stipulations with that. No rifle caliber weapons. No reloaded ammo. Excellent customer service and a clean safe range. They were extremely accommodating when we had to change lanes and the staff is super attentive and very friendly. The prices are a bit steep if you are just going for the day, I wish I went often enough to get a membership. If it's your first time here it's an extra $9.95 to watch a safety video which is pretty reasonable compared to the surrounding ranges. Being from NYC I was very happy to be able to shoot with standard capacity magazines (15 rounds in the Glock 19 and 32 rounds in the AR). Highly recommended, we'll be back! read more

If you're desperate to shoot, search @least two more times for another range. The shooting area gets ridiculously hot & uncomfortable. There aren't any proper stands to set up your equipment. You have to manually crank your targets down range and the crank barely works. The range officer is a decent guy. The only other plus I can give this place is that they'll give you an itemized receipt. read more

Absolutely great experience. Came here with a large group (mostly first time shooters) on a weekend, and were given a private lesson and session. The instructors were extremely helpful and gave us newbies step by step instructions and tips. We were able to fire several different weapons - I wish I could tell you specifically which ones, but my lack of gun knowledge shines through here - and several rounds of each. The process was smooth every step of the way, and I left with a new found enthusiasm for guns. I'll be signing up for safety courses and a license really soon after coming here. Signed up for a class. Wanted to learn revolver shooting. Day of the shooting experience at the range , no revolver. When I asked where the revolver was, instructor said I never expressed interest in that. I beg to differ. I told her that's all I was interested in. When one of the other students asked for a different gun, she had one sent to the room. Still no revolver. What a waste of my money and time. Go anywhere but there to learn to shoot. Horrible. Stopped in at the Pocono Pistol Range for the first time today. Here's a breakdown of my experience: The Amazing: + The staff was fantastic. They were knowledgeable, funny, caring, and above all, safe. + Large facility with good lighting, great signage, and a ton of space for classes. The Good: o The range fees were a bit steep, but the membership options look to be a great way to go (and make shooting much cheaper in the long run) if you are a local, or frequent the area. o A nice amount of loaner handguns to use. I brought my own, so didn't try anything out, but I would consider it in the future. o Typical mark-up on ammo if you buy it there. The Ehhhh: - As awesome as the space was, their ventilation system couldn't keep up with the amount of shooting that was taking place. It was hot and hazy on the range. Maybe I've been spoiled at the ranges I've been at in CA and WA? Long story short, I really enjoyed my trip to Pocono Pistol Range, and will absolutely use them again when I'm in town.
