I enjoyed their products so much that I decided to have some sent to my residence in Yuma,Az. That, was a big mistake! After ordering cheese from them to be sent to Yuma,Az. I had this experience they told me it would be mailed out via UPS and I assumed it would be at the longest two days? after all ten pounds cost around 26.00 postage wrong! it took about five days to get here (even the post office get's it here in three days) and for less postage...second I thought they would have enough sense to pack it accordingly (Styrofoam or similar packaging?) wrong! they simply put the ten pounds of cheese in a simple cardboard box, No insulation whatsoever! the temperature in Az. during this period was in the mid to upper eighties...when I received the product it looked like it had been tossed, kicked and just abused like any normal package (not like something that was a food product) the packaging inside was burst and had cheese open in the box most of the product was melted together like a brick of butter. who ships something like this UPS ground and in such a container? I was to say the least very Unhappy! The package was delivered on a Friday so I waited until the following Monday to find out why this had been shipped in such a manner? When I called Lone Elm I asked for someone in management after a short hold I was connected to a person that was supposed to be in charge?? When I asked the reason for the packaging and the time it took to get here I was told per se, In a manner I can only describe as being both rude and unconcerned! "I told you and your friend that came to the store that...We (lone elm) do not like to ship to destinations that are warm" Not true, I or my friend were never told the aforementioned! My reply was " well I guess that shoots forty six bucks in the ass" with that I was basically given the who cares attitude and hung up! I was willing to spend 46.00 for ten pounds of cheese plus shipping, because I enjoyed the particular brand of American sliced cheese! NEVER again will I do business with the Lone Elm sales nor will I recommend them to anyone! Even a child would have better sense than to send sliced cheese in a cardboard box via UPS ground. The least they could have done was apologize for their error and offered to replace the product when I arrive in Wi. this May. But...they chose to act in the manner they did, and in the process lose a good customer and if this review has any impact? many more.

I live about 200 miles away, but he's from Milwaukee so it made sense and I appreciate it. Anyway, it was the end of the season so they were only selling pre-boxed creams and nuts inn1 lb. boxes. These were the best chocolates I've ever had. Not a bad one in any of the boxes. No pinks, or oranges, or lemons. Just the ones I love. Maple creams, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and then the nutty ones were fabulous. I like dark chocolate over milk chocolate but both were really good. I plan to visit Oshkosh in the next several weeks (for the first time), so I will definitely stop in at Hughes for a few pounds. I may actually get more than 3 lbs. because they freeze real well for future delights. I'm not sure what else there is to do in Oshkosh, but Hughes is gonna be on the list for sure.

I'm sorry to have to update my review and lower my rating. Their chocolates are top notch.I…read moreappreciate that this family run business is still here, after decades. My family has been going there for since I was a young child; I won't say how many decades. I may be ending a long-standing tradition of making the annual family pilgrimage to Hughes. I feel that success has gone a bit to their heads, and they are a bit "pissy." I am rating them at a three for now, since their chocolate is undeniably fantastic, and I am also considering that perhaps they are stretched thinly. We all have our breaking point. Last year I think I spent $800 there, less than the year before--specifically because they were out of stock on many of the items I wanted. I was partially to blame, because I had waited too long. But not this year. I called today to pre-pay for some chocolates so that I wouldn't make the drive for nothing, and so that I could avoid the congested basement and be on my way. I figured on buying 25-40 pounds this year, depending on what they had. To their credit, they answered the phone. But I was told that I would need to commit to 75 pounds before they would consider taking a prepaid phone order. They aren't open on Sunday, so I was told I'd need to visit in the next couple days if I wanted toffees before they sold out. "First come first serve." I kind of get it, but I kind of don't. $500-$800 isn't enough for them to bother with me--message received. Yeah, this is the second year in a row I sensed their attitude is overly confident to the point where they no longer have to be friendly. At all. About five years back, I called to inquire if they offered any type of corporate program discount for people sending their chocolates as client gifts. I send out 240+ boxes to my clients each year during the holidays. I was cut off mid sentence by the guy who took the call, and it was clear they were not interested in anything like that. So I went somewhere else. This year, I don't think I'm even going to make the trip for family gifts. So...Hello Oaks Candies, my friend. You're a bit more expensive, but your chocolate is equally as good, you're open on Sundays, and I don't get the arrogant attitude from you.

I learned quickly that its not really a thing up here after visiting all the local grocery stores so I started doing my research and calling butchers to see if they could get me a brisket. The guy who answered the phone at Beck's told me they had some in the freezer and generally do as they are not a hot item. I decided to keep this in mind for the future when I needed one. Fast forward to just a few weeks ago, I decided that I was going to make a brisket for Thanksgiving instead of turkey. I decided to stop by and pick up a frozen brisket to start thawing so it would be ready to prepare for Thanksgiving. I stopped by and they were out of the frozen. I asked about how to get a fresh one and they said they did them by order and it would be a few days to process the meat but they could have it for me the day before Thanksgiving which would be perfect as thats when I needed to start the rub and getting it ready to roast in the oven early the next morning. The brisket was absolutely beautiful. Honestly one of the best briskets I have ever seen. It was my first time doing an oven roasted one but with the way Becks trimmed and prepared it. Everything went smoothly and I came out with a perfect brisket that was a big hit. I know cooking it is all on me but Beck's was there to help out with an amazing cut of meat. I will use them for all my meat needs from now on.
