It has been a while since I went to the Poachers due to it being under refurbishment yet again. I guess this is to be expected at a pub which floods pretty much every time it rains heavily, or snow melts. This is a sorry state of affairs as I really do like this pub for a number of reasons.
The pub itself is semi-adjoined to the Best Western Moathouse, tucked away in the back, it is a grade 2 listed building, having previously been a mill house with a low ceiling, striped with beams, given it a very rustic feel.
Sports fans are catered for, flat screen TVs show the current popular sporting event, which is in sharp contrast to the rest of the look and feel of the pub. There is also an outdoor seating area with a reasonable amount of tables and parasols. There is a more formal dining area in the Sindlesham Mill Restaurant which serves the Hotel.
The menu had chanegd since I last went there, and I opted for a chicken burger as I had popped out of work for lunch and wanted something quick and easy.
I was not in the slightest bit disappointed, it was probably the best chicken burger I have had as far as I can remember, I'd actually say it was a griddled seasoned chicken breast, served with a salad on a soft flour roll. The chips were more like potatoes roasted i goose fat. So quite a surprise all round.
I'm glad the pub is open again, I'll probably be there for lunch on Friday :) read more
