The Warren was refurbed a few years ago, and they have recently redone a section out with some new furniture. The decor is lovely, one of my favourites, and has a very comfortable modern feel to it. Lots of wood and glass, candles, open fires, chairs so sturdy you can barely move them, and lots of red, gold and green upholstery.
The food here is always superb. It's not cheap, but neither is it expensive. Pizzas start at around 8quid, and there is otherwise a very good selection of English pub food, pizza, baguettes, burgers and the like. No complaints from me.
I've always found them very child friendly. I've visited with a lot of my friends, with children of all ages. Be warned, though, they have no proper high chairs, only booster seats that strap on to their existing chairs. These are not great for younger babies who really need sturdy support all round them. The ones at the Warren do not even really offer support at the sides.
What has been more of a disappointment here is my experience of the delays in service on weekday lunchtime dining. I've waited 45minutes before now for the simplest of orders. They are busy, but they don't seem understaffed during the week, so I am not sure where the delay lies. I suspect it's in the kitchen. It happens a lot, though. On that day they actually seemed to have lost our order at one point. On that occasion I asked for, and was given, a discount on the bill to make up for it.
By contrast, my most recent visit - a Sunday - was the first time I've been in there at the weekend, and it was totally different. My son and I arrived early for lunch - heading in the door before 12, and were greeted by an army of friendly waitresses. The food arrived promptly - about 10 minutes for pizza and chips for us to share. It was, as usual, beautifully done.
All in all, it's the decor and food that keep me coming back here. Four stars for now. Sort out the delays mid-week, and it'd be five. read more
