Although I try to beg and negotiate. There are no TRAINS in service today. I normally go to my work, church meetings and other appointments thru train (with my scooter with me) I did try to explain that this is my only way to go to places thru a train and they know that there is no train services today. I TRY TO NEGOTIATE TO ATTEND OUR CHURCH ACTIVITY TODAY ): One translink personnel said I have to call translink and see if they allow me and point me to a sticker with a number. "Really at this very moment that I am running late to our church activity?" I beg the driver if only they can give me a chance as I have no other way to go and i dont have sufficient money in my bank to ride an uber. Uber cost 80- 100$ to go there. The 3rd driver told me that it is not their worries and I have to ride a taxi or uber. (GOD' sake.) How rude and heartless!!!!!!!! Buses drivers R591 between 5:15 to 6:30PM. The 99 B-Line began service 23 years ago, on September 3, 1996.  It was Vancouver's first "express"…read morebus, meaning that it stops at only select stops, so in theory it's "much faster" than a regular bus (in reality, it's only a little bit faster, depending on traffic, and in the evening, it's better to just catch the #9 if it's going to be a ten minute wait for the 99). The B-Line runs along Broadway between Commercial-Broadway Station and UBC, stopping at Clark, Fraser, Main, Cambie (where you can transfer to the Canada Line), Heather (the stop for the hospital), Granville, Arbutus, Macdonald, Alma, Sasamat, and Allison Road, although the Fraser and Arbutus stops weren't added until December 2009, despite those streets being major connections to busy bus routes.  (And before the Millennium Line branch of the skytrain was built in 2002, the B-Line went past Broadway Station, as it was then called, stopping at Boundary Road and various stops in Burnaby.) Compared to the other bus routes in Vancouver, the B-Line is great; it runs on weekends and evenings, and the service is now fairly frequent, although in spring 2011, they didn't have early morning service going to UBC on weekends -- I know this because I had my microbiology final exam at 8am on a Saturday morning (a double "fuck you" from the school), and there were NO bus routes, the B-Line included, that could get me to school more than 10 mins before my exam -- if it wasn't late -- which is not enough time to run from the bus loop to the exam, let alone take a much needed piss after a long bus ride. However, because the Broadway corridor is such a busy route, and the B-Line connects with the skytrain, the crowding on the bus is horrible. Back in the mid-2000s, I had to take the B-Line to work,  and I regularly had to wait over half an hour and five buses just to be able to get on a bus at Commercial-Broadway Station, because there were so many people waiting to get on.   I fortunately no longer take the B-Line on a regular basis, and I never have to take it during the morning rush hour.  But on the occasions I do take it, it's still quite crowded most of the time (like today when I was going to class), and people are often rude assholes.  It's still an unpleasant bus to take because of the crowding, but due to a lack of other alternatives (such as an express bus running on weekends down 41st Avenue, another extremely congested traffic corridor), it's a necessary evil. I can't wait until the new skytrain line is built along Broadway, even if it only runs to Arbutus and not all the way to UBC (something that should have been done 15 years ago).  The 99 B-Line is a great concept, but it doesn't work well because of the high volume of users and the traffic congestion along Broadway.  But it's better than the #25! Yesterday, Monday February 11th, it snowed it Vancouver. Not much, compared to other places in the…read moreworld that get snow, but it brought our entire transit system to a halt. All day there was one problem or another with one of the skytrain lines, including the Canada Line, and most, if not all, of the buses were completely fucked, including the #25, but that's hardly a surprise. On a normal day, the #25 is unreliable, late, doesn't show up, over crowded, and passes people up, even when not full. Well, according to the Translink alerts (which are always put up well after Translink is aware of the problem, so even if you check before you leave, there could have been a major problem for the past half hour that Translink hasn't bothered updating on their website, so you get caught up in the problem -- yeah, I speak from personal experience), yesterday many of the morning buses had been cancelled and the rest delayed, which is really no different than a typical day, although this time Translink could blame it on the snow. Luckily I didn't have to work yesterday, so I stayed in, missing all the transit chaos. However, today I had to go into work, and I was worried about how fucked up transit would be, so I left super early, hoping to get to work BEFORE any major problems occurred, and to allow extra time in case there were major problems. I got to the #25 bus stop, not even expecting any buses to be running that morning, but to my surprise, just as I was approaching the bus stop, where two other people were waiting for who knows how long, I saw a bus coming. Perfect timing! But of course it was too good to be true, and as usual, the bus, which was NOT full, passed us up! Not only was I enraged because the bus passed me up (it had nothing to do with the snow and was just typical #25 bullshit), but I was worried because that could have been the only bus running that morning, and the next bus (if there were one), could have been an hour away, if it was anything like yesterday. Luckily another bus DID come, 7.5 minutes later, BUT, I should not have had to wait, as the first bus was NOT full. The driver of the second bus that came made an effort to let everyone on, even though the bus was getting pretty full (because the first driver was passing everyone up). If the bus is legitimately full, I understand that a bus may have to pass people up, although passing people up in the first place is a Translink fail, as it indicates that they don't have enough capacity on the route in the first place, and that something needs to be done (increased service, longer buses, modify the route or times, etc). So yeah, this morning's commute was not good, but it had nothing to do with the snow - it was 100% Translink's fault. (Luckily the Canada Line was running, so I didn't have trouble on that end, except for a woman who blocked the door after she got on the train, which was not crowded, causing me to nearly miss the train as I was trying to get past her.) In summary: the snow was no problem on my commute today, and the #25 bus did its usual pass up, even though it wasn't full. [Yelp collections: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles]

Faced with a 15 to 20 minute wait for the #43 because it only runs every half an hour and doesn't line up with when Langara evening courses end; a pass up by the #41 and then a 10 to 15 minute wait followed by another possible pass up; or a skytrain full of drunk hockey fans, I decided to give the #49 a try. BIG MISTAKE. First, the bus was super late. When I got to the bus stop, it was already five minutes late, and it was supposed to arrive in five minutes. I waited 11 minutes (six minutes past the arrival time, and over 15 minutes past the original time), and OF COURSE it was "full" and passed everyone up. OF COURSE. I fucking KNEW it would, and yet I waited. Like an abusive partner, you hope things change and you give it one more chance, but you just get the same result. I got to Oakridge-41st Ave. Station (after lodging a complaint about the #49, #43, and the Skytrain maintenance -- I had totally forgotten about the #25, but that bus has no bearing on my hellish commute home from Langara), and by some miracle, the #41 came within minutes, and IT DIDN'T PASS PEOPLE UP! The bus let everyone on! I think this is the first time I have ever seen the #41 NOT pass people up in the evening at Oakridge-41st Ave. Station. Needless to say, I am NOT in a good mood, and I am fucking FED UP. Constant pass ups, especially at night, are NOT acceptable. First, the buses aren't REALLY "full" most of the time ("full", in my opinion, means there is no more room for passengers; "full" does NOT mean that half the bus is empty because people won't move to the back, or because the driver is too lazy to stop and pick people up). And if the bus truly WERE full at 9:30pm at night, then that means that there aren't enough buses at that time, and Translink should fucking do something about it. In the past we always used Perimeter Pacific Coach, but it no longer operates, so yesterday we tried a Pacific Coach (due to the name, I strongly suspect it's the reincarnation of Perimeter). First, the positives: - the bus left on time and everything at the airport (incl. tagging your luggage at the counter) was very well organized. - the bus was very comfortable, once again, I think these are the same buses that Perimeter had. - the driver was amazing, there was a mix of rain and snow and the last 50km of the road (Hwy 99) it was pure ice. We saw a couple of cars in the ditch and my husband was very happy we didn't rent a car and he didn't have to drive in such conditions. Could be improved: - Logistics in Whistler. When we arrived to Creekside, they distributed people to small shuttles to take to their hotels and condos. This was really disorganized and took almost half an hour. The drivers were deciding who goes where ad-hoc, even though they had all the lists of passengers/destinations and could prepare in advance. We were eager to get to our condo as soon as possible as, due to road conditions, the bus was late and we needed to pick up our tickets for the week before the ticket office was closed. Unfortunately, due to this delay with distributing passengers to minivans, we were late and couldn't pickup our tickets on time.

Actually, this would be my first time ever riding on any type of train besides the subway/skytrain. My friend took care of the booking for the both of us. We got 2 coach class seats in the morning. The Amtrak staff at Everett station were pretty nice and informative when i asked them general questions about my travels. I showed them my passport, gave them my ticket, and we got a declaration form to fill out. There were no queue times to check in because there were only a few passengers at the station (less than 10) The train came right on time as scheduled. The conductor helped bring our suitcase up the stairs of the train and helped us find our seats. All the passengers embarking on the train took less than 4-5 minutes. The train was fully booked and all the windows seats were already taken so my friend and I sat on different seats closest to the middle aisle. The coach seats had ample leg room to put your bag and do things like eating and using your laptop. I didn't feel cramped at all! Looking outside as the train was moving along the coastline near the border was a treat. walking in the train was tricky because the whole train coach kept bouncing a bit each as it traveled. Washrooms were clean and had ample room for usage. There were 2 unisex bathrooms with a bright light on the wall to indicate it's being used which it can be seen from far away. The train was 20-25 minutes behind schedule because of freight trains and marine traffic having the right of way, stopping our train from going further. The train conductor was apologetic and kept the passengers updated. On the other hand, at the end of the journey, Canadian customs was really fast and took maybe 3-5 minutes to go through. The Canadian customs procedures were really streamlined and quick. There were basically no wait times for going through customs. The disembarking was done train car by train car. It was done starting by business class, then coach class. Luckily I was in the first coach car near the front. Overall, the train ride was very smooth in terms of the entire Journey from start to finish! I recommend Amtrak train for the nice coastal views and making it a very smooth experience in terms of travelling across the US-Canadian border. There may be some delays though if you're not lucky. 4 stars.
