It has been so helpful to work with Kevin these past couple of months! When my husband and…read more I were initially searching for some support with our finances, we were looking for someone who could meet us at our level and explain financial topics in ways we could understand ( HSAs, Roth IRAs, Traditional IRAs, HYSAs, etc.) We were looking for someone who help us understand our current financial picture and whether we were saving enough to be able to retire at our desired age, be able to enjoy our current hobbies of traveling, and pay for medical expenses we will have. As a woman who got married later and came to my marriage with assets, I wanted to make sure I was making smart financial decisions with regards to my investments, savings, and spending habits as I know I will take home less money than my husband. We found that in Kevin and are so grateful for his knowledge and guidance. Kevin has helped me understand my financial portfolio and adjust my investment choices to match my financial goals. He has a unique approach to providing guidance with regards to finances which involves front loading the work together with weekly meetings the first month followed by check-ins and continued financial information through articles on various financial topics. We highly recommend working with Kevin if you are looking for solid guidance around your finances.

I also didn't know if I was being too hasty in pursuing a financial advisor when I was just starting out; was the investment in a financial planner worth it considering I had little assets, a moderate paycheck, and student loan debt? Since I was rather anxious in not wanting to make mistakes that could impact the rest of my financial life, I decided to look into Kevin. His website drew me in with his focus on millennials and the unique financial challenges we face. He seemed real and truthful which is what I was looking for above all else. Someone to give me real, concrete advice, and not take advantage of me considering my limited understanding in "adult" finances. After my first free consultation I knew I was in good hands and that his website accurately reflected his values. Although it was a financial investment to get a financial planner, Kevin has helped me set up a future that is beyond worth the money I spent/spend. We continue to have check-ins as my financial situation changes and he never holds judgement when I need a concept explained or broken down considering money has a lot of jargon. I now feel confident in my plans for paying off my student debt, investing in my future, and living a normal life all at the same time. I recommend him to all my friends and coworkers when conversations turn to finances as we all navigate this often challenging money world.

Time and time again, in searching for a home (and on one occasion being represented by a leading…read moreLlewellyn realtor as my buyer agent), it is obvious this firm is the most unscrupulous in the metro Washington area. Just talk with any area realtor or buyer who has been in the market awhile, and you will hear all the stories of deceit, misrepresentation, etc. My own Llewellyn agent lied to me and wouldn't write a contract for me to buy a home because he wouldn't admit he couldn't show the house to me soon enough. Worse yet, when he showed me the home three days later than I requested, he knew at that same exact time the sellers were getting an offer and that they were probably going to accept (I verified this with the listing realtor). This particular Llewellyn agent who was representing me also scouts out elderly folks in Montgomery County who are likely to sell their home soon: he leaves apple butter and his business card on their doorstep, he gives talks about downsizing (and leaves his business card) at area retirement communities, etc. Most recently another Llewellyn agent listed a home in a desirable Montgomery County, MD neighborhood, and I called her to ask to see the home. She was scheduled to have an open house four days later. I asked her if she would be accepting ratified contracts before then. She said NO, that contracts would not be reviewed until the day after the open house. I called her back the following day and asked her if she would have time to write a contract for me after I saw the home, and she said probably not. So I contacted another realtor to show me the home (and other realtors were showing the home that day). I told my realtor I wanted to write a contract that day, and then my realtor called me back and said the Llewellyn listing realtor said they were already accepting an offer (2 days before she told me they would review offers). Why did the Llewellyn listing realtor allow all those showings on the same day she would be accepting a contract? Why did she lie about the timing? Why for the next two days until after the open house had completed, was the listing still active on the MLS, when there was already a ratified contract? Because the greedy, devious, deceitful Llewellyn realtor wanted potential clients to come to her open house so she could get more business. Only AFTER the open house (2 days later) was the listing finally updated to 'pending' contract. There's another Llewellyn agent who works the Derwood, MD area who couldn't write a sentence if his life depended on it. Can you imagine asking someone who is illiterate to write a contract for you? What's so ironic is that Llewellyn is one of those 'holier than thou' firms that start their morning meeting off with a Christian prayer. So typical of these religious folks to be the worst of the bunch--so unscrupulous!

Scout Properties - Roach from microwave

When we first started with Scout Properties, things were great. Our first manager, Nick, was…read moreprofessional and easy to reach. But after Victor took over, everything went downhill fast. I'm not sure Victor ever really knew who we were and I can't be sure he ever visited the apartment before things really went to crap. He completely missed a major toilet leak--even after the tenant moved out--which left us with a cumulative $5,773.14 water bill. Then Scout didn't handle the tenant's voucher renewal properly, with no warning to us, which made the tenant move out early and cost us rental income. Even worse, we've now been stuck for several months without a tenant and have had to cover all the turnover costs ourselves. Despite that, Scout still charged their full management fees while barely responding to us. All of a sudden, Scout dropped us as clients (including our neighbors who were clients also), kept the fees, and stopped returning calls. Our next‑door neighbors had the same experience -- and told us their tenant was even offered an apartment at another property managed by Scout. Everything started fine but turned into one expensive, stressful mess. Don't hire Scout Properties unless you want poor communication, big bills, and months of lost rent.

You get what you pay for, their units aren't that expensive, and it's for a reason. I thought I…read morescored a deal when I recently moved into a unit on Bunker Hill Rd (early June) managed by this team, however, I have had a mixed experience. While some communication has been responsive, the overall condition of the apartment and follow-through on certain issues have been disappointing. Upon move-in, the unit was not thoroughly cleaned. There were hardened food splatters in the microwave, a dirty stovetop, stained cabinets, filthy outlet covers and light switches, and windows that looked like they had never been cleaned. One of the bedroom windows didn't open at all. The living room and bedroom floors were also worn and splintered--rough enough to tear pieces off my mop while I was cleaning. I submitted an inspection report with photos and received a response from the property manager acknowledging the concerns. A bathroom wall hole was patched (though the repair was done without any coordination or notice), and I was told the chipped toilet tank issue was being reviewed with the landlord. As of now, I haven't received a follow-up. I was also told the technician would be reminded to be more mindful of cleanliness, as the workspace left behind wasn't ideal. The most concerning issue, however, was finding a roach inside the microwave--before I had even used it. That was the final factor that led me to submit an early lease termination notice 22 days after receiving the keys. I'm giving 3 stars because rent payment through the portal was convenient, and Victor did respond to some of my concerns (however, it felt like he never responds to an email in its entirety). But the move-in experience, unresolved maintenance issues, and poor communication has bothered me entirely. I hope more attention is given to preparing units for future tenants and being more efficient in communication.
