The story is that I was very concerned about my home loan and equity loan. These guys both put their heads together and gave me a gameplan on what i needed to put down to get financed. In the end it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I had used consumer tools, like Zillow and others to see what my house was worth... at those rates I would have had to come up with over $200,000 to refinance! Thats not realistic... it cost me a minimal amount to get an independent appraisal (Matt and Carlos guided me through this) and they also told me what needed to be addressed on my credit at the time. I was very fortunate to come across these two guys. They are worth every moment of your time - I have sent several friends and relatives to them and they share the sentiment!

Long story short, they reviewed the financials and did the appraisal ($500) and eventually couldn't close. They issued a lot of "CYA" paperwork (e.g., 3-4 forms that say the exact same thing -- we will not refund you EVER) which makes me a little suspicious that a lot of people experience losing admin $$ when they can't close. This was really frustrating because essentially they over promised and under delivered. I also didn't think they were very on-top of communication after I decided to go with them. I had to asks for updates rather than them providing first and generally the level of customer service went down. So it wasn't quite a bait and switch, but that's what it FELT like. A few other online reviews that claim bait and switch should have been fair warning not to go with them. I actually had a bad feeling about them before I signed with them but decided in the end to give them a try since they were quoting me significantly lower rates -- FAIL. I understand some of this has to do with difficultly closing on the loan (hence the 2 star instead of a 1 star), but overall experience was still bad. I also just generally didn't like my broker's personality. He had this abrasiveness in his personality that just got worse as the situation became worse. He seems like one of those brokers that only have his own benefit (commission) in mind from the start, emphasizing that they don't get paid unless you close with them, making it seem like they don't want to do preliminary work for you to try to earn your business. The broker I'm working with now is the total opposite -- he will send you to another broker if you aren't getting the best deal from him and he's so knowledgeable and gives it to you straight.
