Good hotel for a kids' sleepover / birthday party, because of the mini water park indoor pool. The jets in the hot tub weren't working. Rooms were comfortable enough, strong HVAC and thermostat that actually works. Wish they had USB outlets but they do have ample AC outlets. Free coffee in the morning but no continental breakfast. We tried to go there for a birthday party and were kicked out of the pool within 45 minutes. We were registered for a room, but not everyone that was there was staying. We went down the slide together and help back some water so we wouldn't get stuck halfway down. Once we were down the water turned off after a minute. The owner came up to us and asked if we clogged the slide. I was trying to say we might have but I don't know for sure and was interrupted. She asked us for our room number and the person who had the room wasn't in the pool with us so we didn't know. We tried to say we didn't know and she interrupted us again. She asked who was staying and asked if we were guests. We tried to say that one of us had a room and that some of us were just here to swim for a little and she said you guys don't have wrist bands. The person who had the room didn't have a wrist band and no one else in the pool had a wrist band on either. She told us we ruined a different kids birthday party (even though we were also there for a different birthday party) and told us to get out. She follow us to our table and kept asking what room it was. We tried to tell her we didn't know and kept on getting interrupted. We previously got extra towels because we had a group of around 10 people. We got them from the front desk and never had any trouble. Since we just got out of the pool we were all soaking wet and cold. When I tried to dry off with a towel she told me I couldn't take the towel. I tried to explain I wasn't going to take it just dry off. She then threatened to call the police on us for trespassing (even though we had a room!!). We then went to the room and left. If you have kids and a dog, this place is awesome. They have a water park with a long, curly slide and two short slides. You can walk to the mall across the street, to a few restaurants - and it's a short drive from the water. The room was nice and we hooked up our game system to the telly. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but I really feel like people need to know what they could be potentially dealing with at this place. The first room they checked us into was down by door 7. I used my key to open the door and was shocked to discover the room was already occupied by a family with their belongings all over the place. I then walked back down to the front desk and informed them of the situation. They apologized and checked us into a new room on the opposite end of the hotel. We then walked down to this new room, opened the door with our key and you guessed it....there was another guest already in the room!!!! At this point, I decided this place was probably not the best hotel for our family to stay at here in Bismarck. How many random strangers would the front desk be handing our hotel room key to while we were at the pool??? So I walked back down to the front desk for the third and final time and requested the front desk refund my money so we could go elsewhere for the night. The clerk called the manager down and the manager then informed me they were UNABLE TO REFUND MY MONEY because apparently the only person who can do the refunds isn't working. I was verbally told it would be refunded when this person returns to the office. They gave me zero written documentation of the checkout or what had just transpired. Meaning upon me leaving the property, it would be my word against theirs. I immediately called my credit card company. They confirmed the charge was still on my card but also said there was nothing they could do until the charge was no longer pending. They also confirmed they would need evidence in the event of a dispute. At that point I hung up with my credit card company and made the decision to call the non-emergency line at the local PD to bounce the situation off them. Is it reasonable for a merchant to charge someone for services, fail to provide those services, and then refuse to immediately refund those services or at least provide adequate written documentation of the situation at-hand? The answer I got over the phone was no and they an officer over to assist. The officer walked in to the hotel and then shortly thereafter walked out with something in writing from the manager about the situation and their intent to refund us. We then left the property after spending more than 1.5 hours dealing with this mess. It will be interesting to see if I actually get a refund from them. read more

The hotel is "okay". The rooms are dimly lit and the decor is outdated. There was a used coffee pack in my brewer which immediately led me to doubt the rest of the room maintenance. The pool was nice. Water slide and two shorter slides but there isn't much extra room for those who just want some open water to swim in. The hot tub was filled with people so I wasn't able to test that. The plan was to close the building with the water park in it to fix plumbing so we had to stay in the adjacent building (still connected with enclosed hallways). The room was $88 plus tax for 2 queen beds. The TV is large and had a good clear multi channel selection. The free wifi also was not working in my room in the morning. Would I recommend? I have had enough bad experiences at this place and will no longer stay nor recommend them to ANYONE! If your looking for a pool, go ahead, but I would find an alternate option. This hotel is one recommended via the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce for tournaments and boy will they rake you over the coals with their rates! $160/night for this crap hole? It's a good $50 more than booking elsewhere and more than other quality hotels in the area. We were there for a tournament a couple weeks ago and when checking emails for any reservation confirmations and/or reminders we had nothing. We went ahead and booked through a 3rd party to ensure we had a room for the weekend. This was also $50+ cheaper per night and for the 2 nights we needed the room for. We went and checked in, ended up on the first floor right by a back door where all the smokers and random people hang out. No worries, we were in and out and there so little we just went with the flow. For the $109/night, fine. There was NO mention at the time of check-in that there were two reservations under our name. Just checked in and headed to the room. When we got back home and my husband checked his account Monday morning, he was alarmed that not only did he pay the room charges from the 3rd party we booked through, but also charged 3 nights at the $160/night rate. He contacted the hotel and after going back and forth several times, they refunded 2 nights at the 3rd party rate and refused to refund any part of the higher rate for a reservation that we have ZERO communication on. No confirmation, no reminder, no mention of anything when we checked in, NOTHING. I spend a lot of money on hotel stays for my kids sports and have never had such a thing happen. Nor have I experienced such poor customer service. Not only do I get confirmations, but I also get a reminder right before the stay with a "you have a stay coming up at XYZ...". It's not like we requested a free stay at the hotel. We happily paid for the reservation that we made and received confirmation on. In fact, after all this we even agreed we'd pay the higher rate that the chamber charges for the two nights we stayed there. We simply wanted the additional night, that we have no confirmation on, to be refunded. I don't feel that is an unreasonable request. The only reason this hotel gets one star is because of the pool. It's a good pool for kids of all ages, but the visibility for parents with multiple kids of different ages isn't great. Parts of the pool floor in the kids section was lifting up and the hot tub did not have enough water in it, exposing a very dirty filter. There were spots on the sheets, hair left in the shower from a previous guest and the bathtub did not drain. Staff were not very helpful. Will not stay here again. read more

I have stayed at this hotel for years, really since I was 5 years old. In the 35 years of staying here I have gradually seen the motel go down hill, but just recently something has changed and it made me want to yelp about it and give the hotel a little boost because it really needs it. First thing I noticed when checking in is the new lobby which looks really nice compared to the old lobby. The staff people were really nice and helpful compared to the staff people that checked me in the few times before. The halls and room that we were in were newly remodeled and it was really nice to see the lighting changed in the hallways. It was even better to find they have finally gotten rid of the crappy water saver shower heads in the bathroom. Maybe I should clarify, I am rating the room we had this time to the past rooms I had, so I'm not sure if they have updated all rooms or I happen to get a newer one. The bedding was new, the tile in the bathroom was new, the towels even seem new and most of all the HVAC unit actually worked in the room!! Then we went to the pool area and I don't know what has changed but the air flow is WAY better then the last few times we stayed here. Something has been fixed or maybe working properly because it was not hot at all and very comfortable. I also enjoyed the new furniture around the pool. It was comfortable to sit in chairs around a table that you did not have to worry about them collapsing or falling apart. The pool area alone seemed much cleaner and the staff people were doing an awesome job of policing and keeping the towels in check. As I stated before I have stayed hundreds of times at this hotel and it's been a long time since I was happy with the stay. Stayed a week for a wedding would have never stayed otherwise! Upon checking in the carpet was stained and dirty, the rub was clogged, carpet by the bathroom appeared to have blood on it. Called manager they did offer to clean the carpet, they fixed the tub! No mention of any discounts upon checking out!! When I mentioned anything to the supervisor he said " what do you want" Everyday had to call for towels, no daily housekeeping and daily calls for toilet paper (rolls were so small). The place is so old desperately needs a huge remodel. $99 a night is WAY overpriced for this place! A three star hotel it is not! Stayed 2 nights --have stayed previously. My room was booked last minute because an earlier booking did not go through Expedia. The carpet immediately inside the door had a huge ugly stain that was stiff like it had not been properly cleaned or steam cleaned. Terrible first impression! the rest of the carpet did not appear overly clean either. Other wise the room was neat--bathroom area was spotless. Bed was comfortable. Someone had messed up the tv settings so it was on 3:50 am when it was 4 pm---so the Guide did not match what was on in any way. Could not figure out how to reset. The pool area was jam-packed--3 birthday parties going on, kids everywhere, running and falling--no one with a mask anywhere. NO MASKS on anyone--not front desk or housekeeping, no one. I arrived in the evening and after checking in walked all the way to the opposite side of the second building. The keys didn't work so I had to walk all the way back down. When I got back to the room and the keys finally did work I was greeted with a wet and stained carpet and a busted lock on the door. I stayed in the room because I was exhausted. When I woke up the next morning I went down to my car to grab the rest of my things. When I got back to the room the keys didn't work again. I walked all the way to the front desk where they rekeyed them for the second time. I walked all the way back and they still didn't work. (This hotel is two very large square buildings this is not a short walk.) I called the front desk and she said she would get maintenance to come up. After standing outside my room for 10 mins I called back and the lady at the desk said "ya no one has responded to the groupchat." I explained that I was going to be late and that I needed to get into my room ASAP to which she responded "I'll send another message." Another 10 mins went past before a man showed up and attempted to get me into the room. He worked on it for a good 15 mins before he gave up and said "this door always has issues." At which point he told me he would go get the owner. After approximately 50 mins of being locked out of my room the owner arrives. He get the door open immediately and proceeds to accuse me of having a dog in my room. I tell him to search the room and that I'm alone. I stand there in my pajamas running late while he searches my room. He then shows me how to make sure I don't get locked out again by doing something special to the door before I leave. I got ready and went and requested a new room for my second night at the front desk. The second room they gave me was better. The entire building smelled nasty the carpets are gross the pool is tiny and there's no enforcement of rules so kids are crazy. We enjoyed our two night stay in a pool side room. Although the hotel is a little dated, our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. And the customer service staff was very friendly! The front desk, although busy, were very professional. Including Bob, who made us feel like we've been friends for years, welcomed us at the entrance. We stayed at this hotel this last weekend for 2 nights for a family wedding. I thought all the staff were friendly on the hotel side. They accommodated our family by keeping us close to each other, as we had at lease 10-13 rooms total. The rooms were clean, but basic. Our carpet did feel "wet" both days. Like a bunch of kids that went swimming stayed their the week before?? The only "negative" was the manager at the desk Sunday morning for the buffet breakfast. My family had it set up reserved so we could all meet for breakfast before everyone traveled back Home. The food was amazing for a buffet. I kept referring to it as a "Vegas Buffet" our waitress was wonderful, helpful and so friendly. She was busy but was great with everyone coming in whenever, as they were waking up Now the manager, a taller man with glasses you could tell was stressed. When we arrived to the desk, I stated I was with the reserved party. And he snapped at me and asked which one... as their are 2. Once I told him which party, he pointed and said "over their" and proceeded to "snap to his employees" as another party was coming, and he could tell they were going to get busy. Then as we were leaving and he was sitting at the front desk area, my mother tried to tell him thank you for accommodating us all, and how wonderful the food was. He acted like he didn't hear her, snapped at a waitress "again" in front of customers, and started to walk off as my mom was still trying talk. I understand being overwhelmed as you are predicting you will be busy, however, snapping at your employees in front of customers is very unprofessional. Again, I wanted to point out that everyone else was so friendly, from our waitress, to the guy at the olment station. This is probably the worst hotel I've stayed at, and I'm ex-military and I've traveled around the world three times. If it's not one thing, it's another. You can tell they try to keep their appearance up, but it's just a walk into the 80's. The first night, I was in an outer room overlooking the parking lot. Best night of the stay. The second night, my A/C froze up or stopped blowing cool. So they moved me across the hall. I looked out my window just before bed, and I see an elaborate, indoor water park. I didn't really think much of it. It was late and I just wanted to go to bed. Night three I was trying to watch a movie, and the pool was quite loud. The kids were screaming and playing, so I did the normal thing I'd do at home, turn the tv up. Then the pool must have shut down because all the parents were bringing their crying and screaming kids to their hotel rooms. OMG, didn't think it would end. Third morning- this hotel has room service and the food is pretty good; I had breakfast brought the morning before. I used the door tag to place a breakfast order. So I got up and got dressed early. At the end of the time window when the food should have arrived I peaked out the door, and the food tag was still on the door! They never picked it up, therefore I didn't get breakfast. Night four/Final night, I'm doing a little work on the computer, and of course the pool was loud. I didn't think too much of it, because I knew it would be loud. Then I move to the bed to watch a little TV. I start hearing a dripping sound by the door. I look around and in-fact, the person on the floor above was in the shower and it was leaking into my shower. There are metal ceiling tiles in the bathroom and I had noticed one damaged one of the previous nights, but I didn't give it much thought given the overall age of the hotel. But this night, I notice that it was previously intentionally damaged, as-in creased and bent down, so that the leak would drain into the tub. I had enough at this point! I went and spoke to the manager on duty, Lisa and she apologized. I didn't get anything, nor did I want anything. I just told her I would not be staying at the hotel ever again, and I gave her the breakfast tag showing her I had ordered food and didn't get it. If you want to stay at the Ramkota despite reading my post, just try to stay on an outer room. The pool closes at 11pm for children and 12am for adults. But that's if they enforce it. My last night, before an early flight, of course a family reunion was going on at the pool! read more

Eh. Stayed here recently for a wedding, it was ok, not great. The decor was better than some, beds and pillow were comfy. The room was big and quiet even though there were multiple wedding parties present. The bad? There was a disturbingly blood-like stain in the bathroom (nail polish hopefully?) which really should have been dealt with before letting people stay there. Hotel is clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. One of the biggest and popular attraction is the pool area. It has water slides and fountains that are great for kids. It gets really busy over the weekends apparently especially during the winter when the weather is not good for anything else. There's some restaurants and a mall across the street if you want to get out of the hotel. Gym is bare minimum, a couple treadmills and an all purpose workout machine. My family got a room for a family meet up in Bismarck here. Very unpleasant, disgusted and annoyed. I bathed my 1 year old daughter after swimming in bathtub in the room and it was so slippery! NO grip what's so ever and when asked for a bath mat we were told that they didn't have any. I go to get a laundry bag from the closet and find a USED CONDOM by the ironing board!! Manager comes and picks it up and informs us that they do actually have bath mats... While waiting downstairs to talk with the manager ANOTHER guest comes and tells the front desk that there was nail clippings on their night stand- front desk staff just shrugged it off. Will not ever stay here again- rooms are so outdated, carpet was dusty/dirty, bath tubs super slippery and staff are so disrespectful to guests. Be warned that they charge a 20% deposit when the reservation is made then refund it upon checkout. So besides assuming that you will wreck something, they don't tell you this on the phone, they just charge you. Now I have to remember to check my account next week to make sure it gets credited. Then I call the front desk to tell someone to fix the door handle and one minute later and a house keep walks right in and didn't even knock and if you think it doesn't get worse if you and your family want to go swimming just don't take the wrist bands the front desk provides for you 60% of the people in the pool didn't have wrist bands. Arrived to an August hot room with no AC and promptly called the front desk. They sent a maintenance worker to check it out. He arrived quickly and determined the filter was completely clogged. While he worked we began to check out the room. We found nearly half an inch of filth under the beds, including medication, cigarette butts, toys, and a needle for inflating balls. The toilet had remnants of the previous guests still floating in the bowl and there was blood in the shower! Once we turned on the black light flashlight we always use for inspection of our hotels rooms, the entire toilet area was glowing from the uncleaned urine. We called the front desk again and we offered a different room which had been "inspected by management" along with a coupon for a free drink and $5 off breakfast at the restaurant for the inconvenience. Upon checking out the second room we found conditions similar to the first, with a half empty water bottle, a dirty earplug, and staples in the dust under the beds. Also, mold growth in the fridge and freezer, and another bathroom that glowed with urine under black light. We again called the front desk and they sent up the manager to check it out. We pointed out all the above issues to the manager when she arrived and she apologized and offered to have the room cleaned properly. We agreed and waited while housekeeping and the manager worked diligently to properly clean the room. When they finished, we were satisfied with the cleanliness of the room and the staff gave us 20 free tokens for the arcade. Regarding the rest of the hotel, the hallways were filthy enough to turn bare feet black after just a short distance and littered with trash, one of the stairways had mold on the soaking wet carpet from a leaking second floor air conditioner that even seeped through the floor and dripped from the ceiling of the first floor, half of the machines in the arcade were not working, and finally, the entire hotel was extremely noisy until late at night from the wedding dances being held in the ballrooms and the poor architectural design that echoes the sound through the courtyard and hallways and into all the hotel rooms. Overall, just avoid this place completely - worst hotel at which I've ever stayed! read more

Our reservation was lost I made it on Monday and we got there on Friday there was no room We ended up getting one room for one night. The pool was dirty had mold growing on the steps to the slide with dirt everywhere. Beds were terrible they were hard and the sheets felt gross they didn't feel very clean like they didn't wash them. This hotel's best features are its location (it's the best hotel close to downtown Bismarck - most other hotels in the area are concentrated around I-94 exits and I-94 passes several miles outside the city) and the indoor pool and rec area. Otherwise, it's showing its age and is in need of a refurb, and the service is mediocre. The hotel is located on 3rd St across from a shopping mall, about 3/4 miles south of Bismarck's central business district and about 2 miles south of the state capitol. We stopped by for 2 nights on a 10-day road trip through Montana and the Dakotas. When we checked in early in the afternoon there was only one agent at the front desk. Luckily there was no queue, but one front desk agent for a property with over 200 rooms and a ginormous banquet facility is understaffing at its worst. The hallways were dark and the carpet was dated, and the Wi-Fi was so slow that it was worthless and we ended up walking a block to Starbuck's to use their Wi-Fi. Our room was clean, but the décor was tired, the bed was lumpy, the A/C was loud and the toilet and shower were old. The $139/night rate was fair, although if the hotel were in better condition it could easily get $169-179/night with few complaints. Wow I am shocked by the negative reviews. This is our third or forth time staying here and it was great. I have a three year old son who was totally in love with the water park and had a blast the whole time, even had to wake up the next morning to get in some pool time. When we got there they gladly move out room as close to the pool as possible which was pretty much across from the entrance! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We found a table by the pool and hung out for awhile and in that time was brought fresh towels and also asked for our dirty ones. We ordered pizza and didn't have plates so the restaurant was more then happy to give us some to use. Our room was very nice and clean also. The next morning we decided to eat at the buffet there at their restaurant. WOW seriously the best buffet we have been to in a long time! Everything was delicious and hot. They had breakfast on one side and lunch on the other anywhere from biscuits and gravy (homemade) tasted like it anyway, to coconut shrimp! The dessert bar was just as great. They had this strawberry banana pudding which was to die for! Also you could tell the whipped cream was homemade. This place was great AND right directly across from the mall. If I had to describe this hotel in one word, it would be "moist." It's like there was humidity in the air from the pool and it forms dew on everything in the room. Very cute cozy hotel- I love the brick walls and how they had coffee in the lobby. Too bad they didn't have tea because coffee isn't the best choice at 8pm after 4 flights. It's okay, I'll wait until I'm in my room. This place is big! Ohhhhhh and did I mention the pool is crazy insane cool?! It's like a water park in the middle of the hotel! Water slide and anything! I didn't pack my bathing suit but I'll probably go down in my undies later. The gym was blah. 2 tread mills, a weird elliptical and I don't even know what the other machine was but it was ancient. No weights. Booooooo. And the water fountain wasn't really working. You'd have to put your mouth on it to get a drink. I wasn't that thirsty. But okay that shower was the best part. The shampoo was like: salon status and the conditioner made my hair melt like butter. It was the top 5 best toiletries I've ever used compliments by the hotel. The water pressure is 100. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. There's a few lucrative pros to staying here, which I will list. The pool & pool side rooms (see cons though...) Very close proximity to mall & many food options The mattresses and pillows are pretty good quality (see cons) So, the first two pros sold me on the room. Naive me.. here's the cons Nobody monitors the pool area. Not talking about a life guard but someone to wander through occasionally and check wrist bands, rules are being followed, no ones too rowdy etc. not a single person the entire stay-on a Friday night! We arrived at 330 and immediately went to the pool. The hot tub was clean. Come 8 o clock the water was a horrid brown yellow color. Maximum capacity was not being followed at all. There's a time that children are supposed to be out of the hot tub and it's left to adults for the rest of the evening-not followed nor a staff member to come and say that's the rule. The pool is open to kids until 10 or 11, and adults until an hour after that. That's too late. Period. And here's why, The walls are paper thin. Doors have gaps that block absolutely no noise out. The patios have no dividers what so ever to help stop neighbors noise. You will likely be put next to either a birthday party with ten screaming children or a room full of yelling, drinking, banging door slamming wild adults ignoring their screaming baby for hours on end. Literally stepping out of their door and yelling to friends in the pool and thinking they are so funny. Every person that walks down the hall outside your door, you will hear. I don't care how late people stay up or what they do, it's vacation right? In a decent hotel. Where you don't listen with clarity to every single thing going on. The shower was dirty, and there was a old candy box beside the bed. So, nice mattress and pillows or not, all I thought about laying awake since there was no sleep in this $140 hotel, was who's bodily fluids am I sleeping on right now? If the cleaning staff can't pick up a box of candy or rinse out the shower, I have no faith that they changed bedsheets. Another rant about the pool, because it really pissed me off, there were kids climbing up the slide, throwing toys up and off the slide, riding down four to five long in trains, and kids that would go immediately after other kids and then claw their backs up the whole way down. My 11 year old has deep scratches all over his back from this kid. I don't expect military enforcement on the use of the pool but you can't legitimately just have a pool and no order what so ever. I am so deeply disappointed. This was supposed to be a mini family vacay to finish up Christmas shopping and just take a break from life last night. My kids deserved a break so much. They got ran down and clawed up and disrespected in the pool. A night of horrible interrupted sleep. And honestly some tired and probably irritable parents because we wasted the money on this place. Never. Again. And I'll be glad to tell anyone that asks for a recommendation. read more

The room was clean and comfortable but the reason for the two stars is the service. I left some costume jewelry in my bathroom, left the room for the day and when I came back it was missing. Room service had been into the room and cleaned so putting two and two together I am sure the was taken in the cleaning. When mentioned to management their comment was " the sign says not to leave valuables out in your room". I unfortunately had to stay another night, that next day I made sure to use my "do not disturb" tag so nobody would enter my room. read more

Compare our similar review of Best Western Ramkota Hotel Sioux Falls. Ramkotas, we learned, are large complexes designed for large group meetings, with auditoriums and restaurants and a maze of hallways in which it is easy to lose one's way. In addition, they seem to be managed by the same company (Best Western is a franchise operation with various owner/operators) which does not maintain them as they should be maintained. This one had a slow-draining sink and two of three lights over the bathroom mirror were not working, one because it was not fully screwed into its socket, the other because it was broken (not burned out but broken). The pull-out-and-twist sink faucet was sticky: it required a hard yank to pull out and it was hard to adjust, and a missing access cover over the screw that secured the faucet handle suggested repeated maintenance without correction of the problem or replacement of the faucet. The shower was dark and the shower/bath faucet was also hard to regulate. The wall-mounted HVAC unit was quieter than most but apparently had not been cleaned in years because its exhaust grill was covered with a thick layer of cobwebs and dust. The bathroom exhaust vent was similarly dusty and the grout around the tiles in the bathtub area was dark with mold. The HVAC unit could not be shut off. To prevent it from blowing dust-laden air across the bed all night, I stacked furniture in front of it. (The room was warm so I had set the machine to cool; don't try placing furniture close to a heating vent.) The room was crowded with furniture: two queen beds, a desk and chair, and an easy chair, ottoman and floorlamp in addition to chest with TV. Yet, there was only one nightstand and bedlamp for the two queen beds, which was quite inadequate. I banged my head on a wall lamp that had been installed in the space provided for storing and accessing suitcases. Ramkotas do not provide a continental breakfast as other Best Western motels do. Breakfast in the motel restaurant was satisfactory but added $25 to our cost. On the plus side, the room was quiet. read more
