Seating was decent, and there are enough charging outlets to keep your phone alive while you wait. Food options are limited, but what they do have is fine for a quick bite before boarding. One thing I really appreciated was how calm the airport felt. No long lines, no chaotic crowds, just a straightforward in-and-out experience. What a great, small airport! This was our first time flying into and out of Bismarck, and I definitely hope it's not our last. This airport only has four gates, so when you enter on the main level you enter security and TSA right inside the door. The lower level has the baggage claim (two carousels) and car rentals. Outside the lower door to the right of the car rental area is the parking lot for rental cars. This airport is great too because it's minutes from hotels and restaurants! Much like the other airports in North Dakota, BIS is very small. The good news is that it is super easy to navigate and the security line is virtually non-existent. It has never taken me more than 5 minutes to get through, and that was with a random bag check. The bad news, once you are inside of the security check point, there isn't much to do or look at. Services are extremely limited, so eat before you arrive. Staff are usually upbeat and friendly. read more

This airport is bottom of the barrel. Their new "state of the art" TSA machines malfunction all the time causing 20 minute delays. They don't do final boarding calls. The planes leave 15 minutes early without warning. And the TSA employees move about as fast as any other government employee. They were rude and mentally slow. How they even have a job with TSA is beside me. Once the plane boards, don't go looking for your airline staffs. They go hide in the break room until the next flight hours later. There are plenty of other airports in North Dakota that are a thousand times better. If I could give zero stars I would. Dickinson, Minot, Fargo, and Williston airport are far superior. I would not recommend flying out of here. read more

This is a very cute, very small little airport - it has 4 gates. I was in Bismarck for a business trip this week, and flew in and out (with a connection in Minneapolis) of this airport. TSA line looked a little slow but I have pre-check, so it took no time at all. There is a little shop where you can buy souvenirs, food, and even beer and wine before your flight - I saw a few people at the gates nearby drinking Goose Island in a bottle, and I was able to buy a magnet for a souvenir. Both the inside and the outside of the airport are beautiful. They also have a few charging stations throughout which was helpful, as I had two cell phones (work + personal) and an iPad with me. read more

We flew out on July 1 and came back on the 4th. Sadly, my first experience was with a very rude TSA agent. I go off all the time at security since I am loaded wit metal from surgeries. Unfortunately for me I forgot some ear buds in my pocket. When he seen them he got upset and told me they needed to go through the scanner. He explained that they would come out at the end with a paper on top of them. They never showed up. So I sat at the end and he ignored me forever. When I finally got his attention he turned it into my screw up. He searched a couple of minutes and said he couldn't find them and walked off. Nasty attitude. We should be able to hire better people. On return a piece of my luggage beat me to the airport. it was the last flight of the day and I didn't expect it to be easy to get it but there was a guy emptying trash cans behind the reception counter. I tried to get his attention a few times and I knew he seen me because he looked me in the face. Another couple had the same problem and were with me. Finally I raised my voice to get his attention. He pulled his buds out and with the worst attitude ever he said WHAT. I explained the situation and he got snotty and said someone may be out in a half hour. He was majorly rude. So I went back upstairs and found a very nice policeman and he explained that the guy was a janitor that didn't work for the airport. As long as he is working behind the counter he represents the air and needs to act as such. He could have explained he wasn't an airport worker and that would have been all it would have taken. He shouldn't be there. Just in case the airport reads this he was a young man with long hair and a very long hair. He put his buds back in and walked away. Customer service and watching your employees is the most importance part of getting customers to come back. I was a police officer for many years and later managed a furniture store. I would have never allowed this kind of service. Unfortunately, you may not know the problem exists. Now you do. read more

I've flown out of Bismarck Airport 2 different times, and each time was a pleasant experience! It's a tiny little airport with like 4 gates, but it works since Bismarck isn't exactly a vacation destination. There is plenty of seating, and there are nice, open windows that reduce feelings of claustrophobia. There is also a little pod that is designed to provide privacy for nursing mothers! Employees are typical airport employees. They aren't rude or grumpy, and they aren't too happy either. They're just...regular. It took me and my husband 4 minutes to get through security, so get here early, but don't sweat it if you only make it an hour before your flight! haha. read more

It's a nice little airport. Whether you begin your trip to somewhere or coming home from a trip somewhere. This is where you go for air travel. Typical airport stuff. There are ticketing agents, usually you don't even buy tickets anymore. They just help you check in and make sure you know what to do and where you're going. There's the TSA, they're there for security purposes. The shops before and after security, just in case you wanna do a little more shopping or grab something to eat and drink. Gates, airplanes,, seats,, big giant windows to see the airplane and all the stuff that goes on outside before you board. All that stuff is there for your traveling pleasure. All they ask is that you make it to the airport ahead of time just to weather out the "just in case" stuff. The TSA and the Airline employees didn't wake up this morning to mess your day up just because you decided to fly today. Nobody forced you to buy a ticket,, your have the CHOICE to get in your car and drive to your destination. Trust me, they would rather you be in control of your own trip than to hear your belly aching. Anyways life is good,, I know I come early,, relax and let them handle getting me there for me and I understand that things happen from time to time. Most of the time, it's smooth sailing. That's just part of life and I intend to just enjoy every yelptastic moment of it. read more

Arriving here was easy and quick. It's a much smaller airport but they still have all the usual features that a regional American airport should have. Jet bridges, a gift shop, baggage carousels and rental car desks. Exit signage was excellent, the baggage appeared on the carousel moments after I had my car keys from Hertz (You do know to get the car first before waiting for bags, right?) and I was on my way. Easy to get out from the airport and onto the highways. Four stars for Bismarck. I'll upgrade when I return here one day. read more

What's not to love about an airport this small so you can get personal attention from TSA? I love to rag on TSA, but at this provincial spot, I felt their security theatrics were particularly amusing. To wit, a lady "officer" asked me to leave my shoes on (I had TSA-pre status), leave the computer in the bag, but oh, I had to get my apples out of my bag and place them on a tray. Darn those bomb-like apples! On the other hand there was a mighty efficient but polite lady at the flight gate, who herded everyone to check their roll-ons in before the flight arrived to expedite the boarding process. Can we get this North Dakotan to train the rest of the country's gate attendants please? A tiny, boring, cafe awaits you past security, with the drollest of crappy snack foods. I love this airport. First it is small and easy to maneuver. Car rental is easy. Rent a car and walk outside to parking lot. Security is more thorough here than most other places. But I make it through, never huge lines. Still pretty quick. Only four gates. They have these cool cubicle desks with charging and high top tables with charging. There is a small store and prices are high but food is good and it's easy. Be sure to look at ceiling and the art in the airport. Really great. Enjoy! read more

Tiny little 4 gate airport. Very clean with nice staff. Only smaller jets arrive here, so there is a limited number of people in the airport. Rental car process was easy. Little bit of a walk to pick up the car and return it...in the snow and freezing temps was not fun for these Texas people... but we managed! Security was SUPER quick. We were the only ones in line at 1030am. There is a small arcade and a small gift shop, place to eat and bar. Overall, it was a nice change of pace from the crazy big airports we are used to traveling to or through. read more

You definitely know you're far away from home when you step off the airplane and enter Bismarck Airport. I'm a city girl, and I like an adventure. And I definitely had a unique experience here. First thing I noticed? Cowboy hats and boots. And lots of 'em. Second thing I noticed? DINOSAUR BONES. *squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!* This is actually a very nice and functional airport considering it's pretty tiny. Fast baggage delivery, and I was in and out of the Enterprise rental kiosk to get my car. This airport is also very centrally located to downtown Bismarck. You could easily arrive with 30 minutes to boarding and get through security with at least 10 minutes to spare. Thumbs up, Bismarck! read more

Oh how I appreciate traveling from a small airport because of convenience. I learned that this was the first airport built after 9/11. Gate attendants and check-in agents are friendly and helpful. I have never had to stand in line to check my bag which makes the process so easy. Check-out the triceratops skull and other dinosaur relics just in front of security. Pterodactyls fly overhead adding to the prehistoric feeling North Dakota is known for. There are two security lines, one for TSA pre-check. Going through security is quick and efficient especially if you have pre-check. There are four gates and a small gift shop that has famous ND items like Dots pretzels. A small cafe shares half the space with sandwiches, drinks and munchies. There is a minimum $5 purchase in order to use a credit card. Plenty of seating, clean restrooms and places to charge your devices. The only downfall is that direct flights are limited. Typical connections are Denver or Minneapolis. Overall, I enjoy flying out of here versus larger metropolitan airports. read more

This is one of the smaller airports in the US that major airlines fly to. It is very basic design and only has four gates!!! They are old school here and have a cafe, coffee shop, small museum, dedication area for North Dakota aviation history (separate from the museum), gift shop, etc. Food options are poor obviously, but that is normal for small towns. One small cafe, that also sells jewelry, downstairs and one small grill / gift shop / coffee shop once you're inside security by Gate 4. Renting cars is a breeze since their lot is small, off to the side of the terminal, and there is no guard to stop as you leave the lot. read more

Not a bad place, but it most definitely is the smallest airport I have ever seen. They are pretty efficient for the most part. When I arrived for my flight home, there was actually nobody at the ticket counter, and another woman and I had to flag someone down so we could even check our bags. That was a little odd. One the flip side there was absolutely nobody in line at security, which I don't think I have ever experienced before! I flew (haha) right through there, and was able to grab a beer from the gift shop and relax while charging my phone before my flight left! Worth mentioning, is the delicious iced coffee from the small cafe stand on the main level, and the amazing rental car customer service ladies! I wasn't even renting a car, but I needed help figuring out how to get a shuttle to my hotel, and they called the hotel directly for me, scheduled my shuttle, and contacted me when it arrived! I also appreciate the family style bathroom on the main level! Not sure if I'll return to Bismarck but if I have to, I appreciate this little airport as a stop along the way! read more

Nice airport with fast security screening due to having only 4 gates; however, the AC/DC pinball machine is broken and it still accepted my $.75. There should be an out-of-order sign. After I put the money in, it said 17 credits, so 16 other people lost $.75 too. :( read more

This airport is small but found all the employees very friendly and do several roles within the airport. The ticket counter has two stations per airline. Baggage check in is pretty quick. They have a few displays to look at before security but no food or coffee, so eat before you go to the airport. Once through security they do have one gift shop and some food. Gift shop has touristy stuff but look as some are made in China. They have a breast feeding area set said which was nice for women who may need it. Enjoyed talking with the security about the area. read more

What a cute little airport. They have an modified TSA pre-check. I was allowed to keep my shoes on, but had to take out my laptop and liquids. Not too bad. I was impressed with the food options. They are pre made and it's self-service. I opted for what I thought was veggies, pita and hummus. $6.99 seemed like a decent price. When I sat down and opened it up I found grilled chicken, too! Suddenly this little airport snack turned into a decent meal at a decent price. It was good, too. I was impressed. I was going to give a three-star review, but remembered they play great music overhead. Nothing is worse than Muzak and I suppose I expect Muzak at a small airport, but not here. I heard great songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s.. good stuff like "Love is Like Oxygen" by Sweet. And yes... they played a Barry Manilow song. One final note. While I was waiting for my flight I changed my connection from having a 3 1/2 hour layover to one with a 39 minute layover, essentially quadrupling my stress level. Our flight was to leave at 1:05. Our plane didn't arrive until 12:30. I was certain we wouldn't leave on time and spent time worrying about having changed my connection, even though it would get me home three hours earlier. Well, they cleared the plane and got us boarded in a quick, professional fashion and we actually left the gate early! That's pretty darn impressive for a cute little airport with four gates. Very small airport. We showed up two hours before or flight, no lines to check in. Lady was super nice. As you go up to security, there's a triceratops skull, yep, a real one!!! There was no line, so it was quick. We looked at our ticket and was like, there's no terminal on it, WTF?!? We looked up and noticed there was only one, lol, with four gates! It was super nice and clean, there's a game room to keep you occupied, and a family bathroom, which was nice, bc my son pooped, and I needed help changing him! I flew delta and thought self check in is available it's hard to find someone to actually help you if you need it. TSA was really quick and super friendly. Terminal has four gates. Parking is very easy. They have four gates. TSA is pretty efficient getting you through the line. The Delta Kiosk was a bit wonky - and it's the same Gate Agent who works the Flight as well as the Check in before TSA. So make sure your on time! The smallest airport I've ever been to! They only have 4 gates. I was kind of surprised considering it's the capital and all. Everyone was very friendly there. Very small town vibe for sure. There is a display case with dinosaur fossils and interesting stuff to look at in it. Hanging from the ceiling are cool Pterodactyls. There is no food or drink place in the main lobby though. They only have soda machines. We had some time before our flight to visit, but we couldn't get any coffee or anything out there. We didn't have to deal with any crowds at all. The TSA line was basically short and moved at a decent pace. Once you are inside the terminal area, there is a small coffee shop that has some food and souvenirs. The bottled water is actually cheaper from the vending machines though and you get more. I'm not really sure why, but they have a little arcade room too. I barely spent any time here.... but any airport that allows me to arrive, board, and take off in 30 minutes I'm a fan of. (I don't recommend that short of time..... BUT I allotted too much time for my morning flight to MSP and was able to basically walk right on the earlier flight. MUCH earlier...) I was there so short of time from arrival and departure, that I can't really comment on the amenties. Yes, it's smaller... but I did sense that it was pretty clean. We have flown out of Bismarck many times and had great experiences. However, on July 4, 2021, we had terrible TSA service. There was a tall bald man who was extremely rude to everyone coming through the line. He yelled at people for not moving ahead fast enough. He did not give clear directions. What normally takes 5 to 10 minutes took over a half hour. It was extremely disappointing. I understand security and I am all for it, but to me this guy was on a power trip of some sort. read more

Super Small, which is nice, not crowded, also nice. What's not nice.....there's no restauraunt. I got there a little early for my flight, and my toddler and I hadn' eaten, so had to settle for an overpriced turkey sandwich, cheetos, and nibs from the food/suvinier shop. Also, I didn't get my stroller plane side because the Frontier worker told me it would be on the carousel, well it wasn't. It was upstairs by the plane, but I couldn't go back up to get it, and no one was working at the counter because they were all unloading the plane! That's what sucks about small airports. read more

The Bismarck airport is fine for what it is - an airport with limited carriers, gates, and flights. There's one coffee shop, though it wasn't open this past Sunday, and one convenience store that typically needs to update its magazine offerings. I've never had a long wait through security, but I have had some overly diligent TSA workers who confiscated half-empty bottles of makeup, pulled lip gloss out of my purse, etc b/c they violated the 3-1-1 rule - yet other airports have made no mention of those items. Short-term parking is cheap and I think the first 20 minutes is free. Can't say that about a lot of other airports! read more
