I went to Plum Salon today for a haircut and had an appointment with Rita. I was upfront that I have a regular hairstylist I go to, but she was out of town and I needed to get a haircut in. Rita was incredibly understanding and welcoming from the start. Even knowing this could possibly be my only time there, she still took the time to listen to what I wanted, offered helpful feedback, discussed style options, and gave me an amazing haircut! Probably the worst blowout I've received in my life. After Riley cancelled my appointment because of an illness, I rescheduled with Jessi and assumed since with her a blowout was $15 more expensive, that she knew what she was doing. Instead, she gave me the opposite of what I asked for- I asked for volume at the top, and bouncy, round-brush waves/curls. I should've known when she was blow drying my hair from TOP TO BOTTOM that she didn't have a clue what she was doing. I walked out of the salon looking like Wednesday Adams...zero volume, not one curl or wave, just a flat mop of hair. So disappointing- I could've done a better job myself at home and saved the time, money, stress, and disappointment. I won't be returning. read more

Very unprofessional and poor customer handling. Very disappointed they way they handled my appointment. I went to the store to make my first appointment ever. First they booked my appointment at 12:30. I even have a note. I did not get any confirmation or reminder on my phone. On the day of appointment they called me at 11:45 saying your appointment was at 11:30 and not 12:30. I told them that I can still be there in 5 mins since I live in neighborhood but boy they refused to accommodate. I usually drive into Atlanta to get my hair cut but wanted to find somewhere close to home instead. I tried Plum Salon three times with two different stylists and really wanted to like this place, but I just haven't had the experience I want for the price I pay for a hair cut here. -It's so hard to breathe because of all of the hair processing chemicals in the air-I expect a salon to have a certain smell, but this place is pretty bad. -The receptionist asked if I wanted a drink, which I did ask for but she never actually got it for me. -The first stylist I had was Brianna and she took so long to dry my hair I left there dripping in sweat and the cut wasn't great, which is why I wanted to try a different stylist next time. -I chose Lauren and the first cut was decent but nothing spectacular. I booked with Lauren a second time because I really wanted to make this salon work for me. The second time she washed, cut and dried my hair in 30 minutes, which in my opinion is not a good thing. She rushed through it and when I got home and ran my fingers through my hair, I found patches of hair that she completely missed and I had to cut myself since we were going out of town for the holiday. Not exactly the cut I was looking to have in our family photos, especially for what they charge at this salon. I'll be looking elsewhere for a better salon. I miss her dearly since I moved away from Atlanta...she has done my highlights and cut for years and is the only person who knows what to do with my hair to make it look fabulous. I love her to death and try to book an appointment with her whenever I'm in town. Not only does Cat work magic with a hairstyle, she is also such a genuine, cool person and I think anyone would want to be her friend. I've had my hair done in lots of cities...NYC/NYC metro area, Washington DC/DC metro area, Miami, Atlanta, etc.......Michelle at Plum Salon is my favorite stylists out of everyone (Sorry David!) She is well trained, thoughtful, honest, and has the skills to pay the bills. She listens to what I want, she will tell me honestly if she thinks I can pull it off, and if I don't like it, she offers to fix it for free. She has done wonders for my hair color. I have a number of friends who also go to Michelle, both men and women who will drive from Decatur, GA/Kennesaw GA to see Michelle!! I have a buddy that comes from Europe as well, now talk about not giving up your stylist! Michelle is truly an amazing stylist. I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISSATISFIED with Michelle's service. When I meet Michelle I was flying back to Washington DC every 6 weeks to get my hair done (I know, I know, CrAzY, but girls love their stylists and it's hard to find good ones these days, well look no more!) Michelle told me the first time I sat in her chair, if what I am doing does not work for you that is ok, you have to be comfortable with your stylist, you won't offend me if you like someone else work better. She is simply great. I went to Plum for the first time to get balayage highlights! Hailey was phenomenal from start to finish! It was my first time getting highlights and she made me feel really comfortable by explaining every step she was taking. She took the time to discuss what would look great on me and really worked with me to find the style that would best suit me. She is very talented and I'm glad my friend recommended her to me! As for the overall experience - I was promptly greeted for my appointment, offered a beverage when I walked in, and was surrounded by the friendly staff! They were able to squeeze me in for an appointment on short notice, but other than that, the hair appointment itself was the most uncomfortable I've ever had. Usually you enjoy the hair washing experience the most when you go for a hair appointment, but it was not enjoyable at all. The chairs are not high enough for the sinks it seems because my neck was strained the whole time and there was no way to adjust. After that was done with, the woman cutting my hair (can't remember her name but she is apparently the most experienced/expensive) told me to stand up so she could cut it to the right length since it was too long for her to cut while I was sitting down (my hair was maybe 14" long or so at that point, so not super long). I then was able to sit and she proceeded in adding layers to my hair like I asked, or so I thought. She then dried my hair with the blow dryer, brushing my hair in front of my face the whole time so I was suffocating under my own hair for about 10 minutes straight. Once she was all done, my hair did look decent, I'll admit. But when I got home and analyzed it a bit more, the layers I had requested were almost non-existent and the ends were not blended or textured in any way. So I basically was out $60 for an uncomfortable experience and hair that looked pretty much the same as when I went in. I have honestly had better experiences at Great Clips back when I was a broke college kid. Needless to say, I will not be going back here again. read more

So I've been to Plum Salon 6 times in the last year. The 1st hair cut was amazing and (up until last weekend) the rest just kind of so-so. While watching the stylists work I always wonder at this if they understood what I was requesting, which is always the same. Blunt bangs with face framing and just a trim on the rest. Typically it turned out similar to what I imagined but always missing something. Hence the so-so. The main reason is that I have been going for so long is that they are less than 2 minutes from my house. Well, I am on the hunt for a new salon... I booked an appointment with Ben online for 10:15am. I showed up a few minutes prior and advised the receptionist, that I was Robin here for Ben. She looked up startled from her phone and asked if I would like to put on a smock. I did, and then proceeded to wait in their little lobby. No one came to get me, at 10:30 a woman stylist came up to me and said "I'll be with you in one moment, do you need anything while you wait" I was a bit confused and said Ok. After she walked away I went to the receptionist's desk and stated that was not the stylist I made the appt with and was the new stylist going to be an extra cost. The receptionist looked confused, looked at her computer, and then stated "oh, I thought you wanted to talk to our stylist Robin not that you are Robin. No wonder, we were all confused." I understand that people make mistakes and that this is a small one....but a receptionist literally HAS ONE JOB TO DO. And at that she failed. I hope whatever was happening in her phone offered her more entertainment than what she is being paid to do. On to Ben. Another 5 minutes of waiting and Ben called me back. He asked me what I would like to do today. I told him that I had Bangs but they had grown down past my eyes in an attempt to grow them out. But at this point I was going to cut them and try on growing them out after the holidays. Then he starting talking about are they swoopy bang, or blunt swoopy or whispy swoopy. I told him I didn't know what that meant and he showed with the hair that was there what the term swoopy apparently means (pointing in one direction over another). Anyways I told him no, that I wanted just straight blunt bangs but gave him permission to add layers to my hair. I thought we were on the same page. While he was cutting I must have given him some quizzical looks, because he ended up turning my chair with my back to the mirror where he kept the entire time. When he turned me around I noticed something didn't look right but couldn't put my finger on it. He added some last minute face framing and sent me on my way without letting me see the back in a mirror. Couldn't say I was too disappointed about the lack of views... Ben had been working up a sweat on the cut and was getting a little stinky. So Hours later I have to get ready to go out to dinner... my birthday dinner with friends... I go to redo what's fallen out of place and specifically to redo my bangs. Low and behold I found out what was wrong.... I'm curious to find out in what world straight Blunt Bangs means cut one side a 3/4s of an inch shorter than the other and have the shortest part not centered over your nose but over your right eye...... In order for me not to look like my 6 year old nephew cut my hair I had to do my own snips to it before I left the house. So thanks for nothing but wasting my time and money Plum Salon. read more

Because of all the good reviews this salon gets I decided to give them a try so I booked a balayage with Brianna. I have very long dark hair and showed her pictures of what I wanted. After she was "finished" my hair looked exactly the same. The color did not change AT ALL. She avoided eye contact and had no problem charging me $110. I was in a hurry and didn't argue for another appointment like I should have. I know that other salons offer other appointments or a refund when customers are not happy but she just wanted me to pay and get out of there. Maybe I had back luck and she's good at what she does but her unprofessional behavior left me with a bad impression of the salon and I'm not planning on going there again. read more

I was a first time customer. The hair stylist that cut my hair left a very visible line around my head (bowl cut look). The following day I called back in to the salon to schedule a time I could come back in and get a "touch up". They only had ONE time slot available to "work me in" over the next four days. My schedule didn't work for that one specific time slot. This seemed VERY unaccommodating in my opinion. I went here on a referral from a friend. I made an appointment with Heather over the phone. When I arrived she was sitting where the receptionist usually sits. I told her I had an appointment with Heather. She tells me 'OK! You can have a seat.' She then comes up behind me and introduces herself. (Even though I just chatted with her when I walked into the salon) She brings me to her chair and then tells me 'Ummm.. I don't do 'Ethnic Hair'... Mind you she didn't even touch my hair..!! I said 'Ethnic Hair?' She said oh, I didn't mean to offend you. (again I say, she didn't even touch my hair. How do you know my hair is ethnic?) I then explained to her that I was Black and Filipino, (my hair is more to the Filipino side) by then she takes my hair out of the ponytail and starts running her hands through it. 'Oh, it's nice, it's in great shape! I'm sorry, I guess I should have taken it down first...' She layered my hair and put in caramel highlights. I was happy with the work however, I feel someone with 'Over 15 years of experience' made a judgment call by just looking at me. Which is a shame because I would have referred people to her. I can't now because she doesn't do 'Ethnic hair' which by the way... Pretty much describes everyone on the PLANET. Do you mean African Americans? Asians with thick hair? Puerto Ricans? Dominicans? Multicultural like myself? White folks with the thick curly hair? What is non-ethnic hair?! I didn't get it. As we're finishing up, she then points out a gentleman that was waiting for her and says, 'See that guy over there? He's my friend and he's Filipino...' Uh-huh.. That's like telling me, 'I'm not racist! I have 2 black friends!!' It doesn't fly. Maybe Heather should think about putting a disclaimer on her 'about me' section and let potential clients know when she takes appointments over the phone and maybe list/tell them what kind of hair she does do. She did my hair... So she does ethnic hair! Which makes me think.. What did she really mean? I cannot speak on the other stylist in this salon. She lost a good client. I can tell you that. read more

I've heard some good things about this salon, but unfortunately didn't have a good experience. The salon itself is cute, but the stylist I saw was a bit scissor happy. For anyone with long tresses, I would be careful when seeing Aubrey. I went in to correct a minor layer issue and walked out with an even bigger one! I requested long, soft layers and she gave me blunt and chopped. She pulled the hair from the back of my head and cut it as short as the shortest front layer - chin length. And, my hair is half way down my back - so it looks pretty hacked in the back and will take a really long time to grow in. The cut is simply not right - it's really top heavy and then thin and choppy around the bottom. Just totally missed the boat for what I was going for and the texture of my hair. Seriously regretting this one. read more
