They then called me and said they wouldn't be ready for my appointment the next day. It has now been 10 days I have no new appointment, they don't answer my calls or return my messages. I'll be going in to get my documents back and go elsewhere.

The lady we worked with there was awesome. She knew her stuff, was on top of everything, etc., etc. Since I got married, though, my husband and I have used TurboTax. It works well, since I can actually pretty much fill out a tax form myself but enjoy the reassurance I get from TurboTax that I didn't miss anything. This year, we just could not get our TurboTax to come out right. It was off by $6000. So, I decided we should go to H&R Block. We did! Got an appointment really quickly, the place looked nice, folks were nice. The guy who worked with us was very nice, but he did not reassure us. We had to correct him on various things he was entering on screen. No huge deal, but not super reassuring. The worst part, though? When we were told how much it would be at the end. $280 dollars. That's right. I was expecting $100, as it was about $80 the last time we went. But $280 for a fairly simple return where we took the standard deduction? Yes, we had to file returns in two different states, but... really? I was also informed by a former employee of H&R Block that after telling us the price, we should have had the option to not file through them. Obviously, then we would have just wasted an hour of our time and theirs, but the employee should have offered this and did not. Next year we are going back to TurboTax.

They even sent me a copy of the report they had supposedly filed. However, we later discovered they never actually filed it and we were threatened with a tax levy by the State. Subsequent requests for clarification and assistance went unanswered and unresolved. Lack of service and honesty (not good for an accounting firm) caused us to take our business elsewhere.

It was such an awful experience that I looked her up *seven years later* to write this review. The reason I had gotten so behind on my taxes was that my husband had become very sick and this had created financial complications that we weren't up to dealing with in the middle of his illness. I let this go on for too long, until finally I was ready to pay an accountant just to help me out of this mess. I expected to feel tremendous relief. Instead, I ended up worse off than I started. Ms. Villard asked me intrusive questions about the nature of his illness; followed up my stunned answers with the cruel editorializing, "Oh, then he'll never get better"; and then offered me unsolicited life advice about how I may want to remarry in the future. It was a genuinely traumatic interaction. I went home and cried, and never filed the taxes I paid her $150 for preparing because I couldn't bear to look at them. Much later, I went to a different accountant who charged much less money, treated me professionally, and also found that the taxes Ms. Villard had prepared were done wrong and needed to be redone. She is awful at her job, and frankly, based on my experience, as a human being.
