I scheduled an appointment in advance. They called me and wanted me to drop off my tax documents instead of just having them on my appointed day. I took in the papers. They then called me and said they wouldn't be ready for my appointment the next day. It has now been 10 days I have no new appointment, they don't answer my calls or return my messages. I'm wavering between one and two stars. The folks who worked here were all really nice, though, so I'll give them two. My family went to H&R Block in my hometown in Minnesota. The lady we worked with there was awesome. She knew her stuff, was on top of everything, etc., etc. Since I got married, though, my husband and I have used TurboTax. It works well, since I can actually pretty much fill out a tax form myself but enjoy the reassurance I get from TurboTax that I didn't miss anything. This year, we just could not get our TurboTax to come out right. It was off by $6000. So, I decided we should go to H&R Block. We did! Got an appointment really quickly, the place looked nice, folks were nice. The guy who worked with us was very nice, but he did not reassure us. We had to correct him on various things he was entering on screen. No huge deal, but not super reassuring. The worst part, though? When we were told how much it would be at the end. $280 dollars. That's right. I was expecting $100, as it was about $80 the last time we went. But $280 for a fairly simple return where we took the standard deduction? Yes, we had to file returns in two different states, but... really? I was also informed by a former employee of H&R Block that after telling us the price, we should have had the option to not file through them. Obviously, then we would have just wasted an hour of our time and theirs, but the employee should have offered this and did not. Next year we are going back to TurboTax. read more

I felt very disgusted by the experience because I was treated quite differently as a foreign-national student, and I almost felt humiliated. I felt I was being fooled and disrespected during the whole service. They charged me over 200 dollars on a 500-dollar tax return. I was not so much upset about the outrageous charge as much as how I was treated. 1. I felt my tax return was a burden to the lady who did my taxes even though I was paying her. The lady was not even trying to find out what treaty I was under, and simply just sat there in a very dissatisfied manner. I HAD TO FRATICALLY LOOK FOR IT through my own old files as if it was my fault and my job. 2. The only time she laughed was when she saw my signature. It was not a friendly laugh, RATHER CONDESCENDING actually. I almost felt humiliated for something I should not feel humiliated about. 3. The lady who did my taxes did not explain why it cost so much, and just rushed me through at the end. I only got a very lazy and superficial answer from the front desk - "oh it depends on how many forms you brought in" I brought in two forms- my W-2 and one other form. 4. The lady who did my taxes also did not explain that they could deduct their service fee from the tax returns directly. I mentioned the option to the front desk lady, she told me that I would have to go back and talk to the lady who did my taxes. At that point, no. IN ONE WORD, support small local businesses. I have tried for the past two hours to get someone from H&R Block online to respond to me for a SIMPLE question. No clue what they are doing because I couldn't get one answer about daycare expenses or college expenses. They couldn't even tell me the right button to push to find an answer. I apologize to this particular location for taking the wrath, but maybe you shouldn't work for such a crappy company. I'll be finding a private tax consultant; it might be more money but I'm sure all the money H&R can't find me will be well worth it. read more

I scheduled an appointment a little over a week in advance. I arrived about five minutes early, informed the person at the counter who I was and when I had an appointment, and then took my seat until they called me back. About 30 minutes passed before anyone even made eye contact with me. They didn't even bother to let me know the staff was behind schedule. I informed the person at the front desk that I was no longer interested - I had arrived on time and I felt that my time was not appreciated. A little while later, the manager of the location called me and offered to do my taxes personally and give me a discount. I'm giving them two stars, only because the manager attempted to make it right. This is the most disorganized circus of an office you will ever find. I chose to save my money and do my taxes myself - I recommend you do the same. read more
