They like to "estimate" and have you sign that paper even before sending it off to insurance company. My mother has been going to them for years, I needed a root canal and crown she offered to pay what my insurance wouldn't and when going in they wouldn't send me home with a bill for my mom to see they demanded her to pay it before I could even leave then had enough nerve to say they will no longer serve us. Several months later, he developed significant pain in that tooth and returned to the office. He was told he was likely grinding his teeth. When the pain became worse, he returned again and was given the same explanation. He was even encouraged to purchase a $500 professional night guard. Because the pain continued to worsen, he eventually sought care from an emergency dentist on his own. They discovered an infection underneath the tooth and determined he needed an emergency root canal. He was then seen by another dentist/endodontist, who recognized significant swelling that was affecting his airway and immediately sent us to the ER. A CT scan showed soft-tissue swelling in his jaw associated with the dental infection. My son spent two nights and three days in the hospital receiving IV antibiotics. As a parent, this was terrifying. What concerns me most is that he had already returned to his original dentist twice because of persistent and worsening pain, yet the underlying infection was not identified. I am not a dentist, so I cannot say exactly what should or should not have been done. But I can say that after this experience, our family no longer feels comfortable receiving care here. We have canceled our upcoming appointments and will be taking our dental care elsewhere. I am sharing this because I would want to know if my child were in this situation at a dental practice I was considering.

I have paid a total of $446.00 out of pocket for the services I received from this office. That is after an $80 credit. I did receive bills for even more money, but I left a negative review on Yelp and was contacted by the practice. I was told I should ignore the bills I was sent because the practice has no control over their system and it sends out bills whether money is owed or not. My experience of medical practices is that an estimate of service costs is provided prior to provision of services and it does not tend to be hundreds of dollars off base. I don't recommend the practice simply because their patients should have a reasonable understanding of what a service will cost. It's too much of a risk. There are many dental practices out there that can tell you precisely what you will owe them for your care and that have gained complete mastery over their billing system. But no complaints about the clinical care.

Dr. Bader is an excellent dentist. I've had four or five different dentists over the years and…read moreshe's far and away the best of them. I like that they are more interested in my teeth than selling me up-sale add-ons like most dentists. Not that she wouldn't recommend additional treatment if appropriate. Dr. Bader has done this when I needed laser treatment on my gums and a great result for what it cost. I've been her patient since 2005 and have never had a bad experience in treatments, billing, getting my appointment on time, etc. I just looked through the reviews and noticed a 1 star rating from a patient that had a problem with their dental insurance plan and felt like I needed to comment on it. I felt it unfair. Having an unusual dental insurance plan and a billing problem doesn't warrant a one star rating. Regardless of which dentist, if you have an insurance plan with a limited network, the question you would ask when setting up your appointment is, "Do you accept XYZ insurance plan AND are you in XYZ provider network?". Further, most insurance plans have a list of dentists in their network, so why wouldn't you take five minutes and check it? Knowing Dr. Bader, she'd try to figure it out, if possible, and her office manager would tell you if their practice is out of network for that plan. I've never had a problem with billing at Lake Pleasant Dentistry but have always had typical insurance plans such as Delta or MetLife or something common like that. They even offer various payment plans if you have to stretch payments over several months.
