Front of the building - The image shows the exterior of Pleasant Ridge Store, a small building with a sign displaying its name. The building has white siding on the upper part and brown siding on the lower part, with a small window and a door. An American flag is mounted outside, and there is a picnic table on the grass nearby. The sky is cloudy, and other buildings are visible in the background.

A hidden gem in Dodgeville! Great little restaurant and bar. A little out of the way, but the food is fantastic and the waiter/bartender was pleasant and efficient. We had burgers and fries and both were excellent. I didn't know what to expect when we got there, but they serve extremely high quality food at very reasonable prices. The place was clean, the decor was fun and interesting and they have a surprising amount of parking, even for larger vehicles. A great stop and definitely worth wandering off the beaten path to get to it.

Pleasant Ridge (a.k.a. "The Ridge," "P-Ridge," "Tred's House") is bar none one of the best bars you've probably never heard of. It's a 100+ year-old converted general store at the intersection of County Z and ZZ in Dodgeville, run by a cool cat named Charley. On any given day, there might be a line of Harleys in the front, horses tied up out back, and a really cool crowd of people from all over packed into the bar. As for specifics, it's a beer bar, so don't come looking for mixed drinks, but you can get one of the tastiest pints of Guinness you'll ever have (yes, WAY better than most Irish pubs). Charley keeps a couple Lake Louie brews on tap, too, and just added Spotted Cow. For eats, the Ridge serves breakfast (try the Texas Egg Sandwich) and lunch (go for the Ridgeburger). Charley also books some seriously good bands, including the Raindogs, the Amoreys, Screamin' Gene and the Lake Louie Growlers, Better Daze, Dealin' and others. Bands either play in the bar or from the outdoor stage, depending on weather. The Ridge is such a cool place I hesitate to tell you about it, but it's too good not to share. You should check it out. You can find the Ridge on Facebook by searching for "Fans of the Pleasant Ridge Store."

This bar is worth getting off the beaten track to visit. Nice friendly service with the bar and dining area decorated in movie art. Great menu of sandwiches and good selection of local crafts. I tried the Lake Louie IPA brewed in Arena WI about 20 miles from P Ridge. For lunch I had the Philly Cheese which was excellent, served on a local baked roll with tasty Swiss melted over hot sliced beef and veggies. Yum! My sister had The Rueben served on marbled rye which she loved. Double Yum! Great service, food and beer in a genuine country bar. Doesn't get any better than that!

Food and service is excellent. Friendly wait staff that doesn't keep you waiting for your food and drinks is the order of the day.

Wifey had a hamburger with a slice of raw onion. I went with the cheeseburger, pepper jack and a slice of raw onion. Split an order of seasoned fries. Burgers were large, guessing 1/3 to 1/2 a pound, coarse ground beef cooked perfectly for us. Fries were piping hot and nicely seasoned. Everything was excellent. Food came hot to the table. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend without any reservations. Will head back on a Friday for the fish fry.

Inside, it's all lodge-like knotty cedar on it's high ceiling and walls, and while that may not be novel for this part of the state, it is especially good quality, well-maintained, and nicely designed compared to the interiors of many of the other well-worn taverns in the area. However; that does not carry over to the bar seats that are well worn-out and held together with electric tape. So who cares, no one can see it once their butt is firmly in place. Highly recommended: Prime Rib breakfast every Saturday and Sunday from 8a.m. til 12 p.m. Tender, juicy, lightly browned, served with tasty au jus, eggs your way, and hash browns made "special" with the addition of onion and melted cheese, on request. Noteworthy touches: an adorable, elderly poodle mascot behind the bar, a lazy calico cat with her name embroidered on her own stool, and customers are welcome to bring in their well-behaved pups, as well; I would be remiss not to mention a small but adequate selection of slots in a side room near the screened back door. The requisite beer and alcohol are available but served in plastic "glasses", so do like the natives and drink beer from the bottle. Full, decent quality pub grub menu. Ask the bartender for directions to Trader's tiki bar and food on the adjacent camp grounds on the Wisconsin river. It's called an island and it has the vibe. If the upscale, aggressive bar scene in Chicago is beginning to seem more chore than it's worth, the quasi-dive/restaurants and supper clubs strung like wooden beads on a coir chain along the by-ways of this close-in Driftless Region (Google it) of Wisconsin are well worth the scenic, pastoral drive and time--especially if you're not looking to hook up, fall in love, get married, and have kids. It's simply a great way to unwind, relax, and just be yourself by yourself, with your best buds, or SO--and return home with change for your ten-spot jingling in your pocket.

It was probably about 10:30am and we saw that they opened at 11:00am, so promptly at 11 we went over to the bar. I was very pleasantly surprised when we walked in - this place is huge! And the interior is very neatly decorated with a modern rustic kind of feel. The bar is large with plenty of seating, along with tons of other tables available near the bar or further away. We were a pretty sizeable group, about 15 or so strong, so I am sure our unannounced entrance was a bit overwhelming upon their immediate opening. Nevertheless, the bartender immediately asked the group "How many bloody mary's am I making?" Everyone was served along with the regular customers coming in for late breakfast/early lunch. I think there were only 2-3 staff members working and they handled it like champs. They were so nice and got everything out to the customers. I only had the opportunity to drink here, and while I was sad to see no dark beer options, a Summer Shandy is always a good failsafe. While it is not super close to home, I am definitely planning to make it out here again soon to actually enjoy the food as well. Definitely worth checking out if you're anywhere nearby!

The space is very dog friendly because our party had a dog and a few other tables also and nobody said anything. The beer menu was decent with bottles and cans of various beers from domestic to craft. The food menu was small and included burgers to nachos and an amazing looking ice cream cookie sandwich. Parking can be tough and it's mostly street but I got the last open spot. Over this is a great tavern outdoor space that is way more than just a patio so see my pictures.

This bar was open and we were able to walk right in. We were warmly welcomed by the individual behind the bar. We snagged the table and convinced the individual to switch on the football game on the TV above us. We enjoyed a few drinks as we watched the game. She was happy to list off what was available as all four of us wanted something a little different. Menus had options for appetizers or full meals. We ordered fried cheese curds for the table first. We gobbled them up quickly. There was a changing of the guard behind the bar and we soon discovered a new waiter. He seemed gruff but really was sweet. It was starting to get busy and he was on his own. We put in our food orders and enjoyed the football game while we waited. My friend got the Taco Pizza and said she loved it. My husband and I shared a nice big hamburger and fries plate. Another individual at the table got the popcorn shrimp but there was plenty of food to go around. We all enjoyed our meals and drinks and the atmosphere. The regulars were all up at the bar and enjoying the camaraderie during the football game. I can see why this place is a regular go to for some. Cheers!

When I…read morelooked for places to eat dinner that night, Yelp revealed only two options within about a 15-mile radius. One of them was Dino's. When my friend and I asked the hotel desk clerk for restaurant recommendations, he said Dino's is among the best in the area, so off we went. When we arrived and saw the exterior Old Style sign and rather sketchy front door, which included a taped, handwritten note warning that they accept only cash or checks for payment, I was tempted to leave immediately. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall bar, not THE place in town for dinner. But we were hungry and up for an adventure, so we went in. As expected, there were patrons sitting at the bar, but a few feet away were a few tables, so we sat down and waited, and then waited some more. After 10 minutes or so, we figured we must have to order food at the bar, so my friend went up to ask. While she was gone, a server came to our table, apologized for the delay and then began attending to us. She asked what I'd like to drink, and I asked if there were malt beverages or any options besides beer. She seemed confused by the question and stated that they have lemonade, so I decided to stick with water. A little while later, we saw another patron drinking a White Claw, though. The menu featured typical bar fare such as burgers and pizza. We were there on a Friday night, and there was a handwritten fish fry menu posted on a pillar, along with some lighthearted pandemic restaurant rules (see photo). I ordered the three-piece cod dinner, which came with a choice of potatoes. I got a baked potato. My meal was also served with a soft roll, coleslaw, tartar sauce and sour cream. I actually enjoyed it more than I expected to, mostly given the indoor and outdoor atmosphere, and it was a decent meal (though not particularly healthy) for $11.
