If you are looking for a day care option in the south bay, Playhouse Preschool is the perfect place! We had 2 boys attend this school from infant - 5 years. We had the option to leave for TK (free) but stayed here as we love the school and teachers so much! Ms Dimuthu is the best! Both of our boys made friends here including families that we continue to see regularly outside of the school for playdates and birthday parties. The baby room is clean and well managed with teachers dedicated to just that area. Well documented daily reporting gives you a complete picture of their day down to eating, diaper changes, overall mood and more. For the older children, the program is well-balanced with art and music being part of the curriculum with seasonal/holiday song and dance presentations that are very memorable. They do a lot of reading, writing and other activities as well as send photos via Class Dojo. From the baby room through the cap-and-gown graduation ceremony the teachers here care for the kids as if they were their own. The location, hours, ease of drop off / pick up are a HUGE plus for any working parent. And it's one of the best priced options in the south bay. Hands down the best preschool I had found when looking for somewhere to put my child for care. When I was almost 19 years old I needed somewhere that was affordable, that was going to give my daughter the safest and best experience she could get. When times got hard, they were understanding and gave great options for ways to be able to afford child care too.!Being a young parent never changed how the staff looked at my child or myself. I ended up having two more children attend this preschool. They learned to read, write, colors, and so much more. They had their musicals around the holidays and never forgot to celebrate anyone. Mrs. Shirani and Mrs. Dimutu are long standing women who have been there the last 12 years that my children had been going. Beyond a standing ovation for the school and staff!!! Both of my children have attended playhouse. One graduated and one is still enrolled. My oldest had been there since she was about 6 months old. I've always felt my children were very well taken care of at this school and in a very safe environment. The teachers are great...especially Ms Dimuthu. We had both our boys enrolled at Playhouse Preschool since they were 6 months old, and are now 4 and 2. We're moving out of state, but would have happily had our boys go here as long as possible. The management and teachers are all amazing, and treat the children and parents with such love and kindness. I always felt so grateful we had a school like Playhouse for our boys. They did fun activities, learned a lot, made great friends, and were always greeted so fondly by the teachers. Now that we're moving, Playhouse is going to be one of the things we miss the most. I am extremely grateful to the team at Playhouse for keeping our son fed, clean, and safe from 8 months to 1.5 years. However, I would not recommend this facility to a friend. We were given a tour before enrolling where the owner told us of their many policies regarding safety, health, and communication. I felt like our experience did not match what was advertised. First, I understand that safety should be the number one policy. However, this school does not allow any parents onto the school grounds at any time. When I arrived on my baby's first day to pick him up, I was ushered off school grounds and not allowed to enter the building or classroom. We have never entered since and are always stopped at the gate. At our son's new school, we are welcome in the classroom or on the school grounds at any time for pick up, drop off, or even to read a book to the class. I was not comfortable not being able to see my child in his classroom, interact with his classmates, or communicate with his teachers. Communication seriously lacks at this school. I have no idea what my child was doing all day. We had to ask every day for a communication sheet so that we could write to his teachers about how his night was, what he'd already eaten that day, or who was going to pick him up and when. Even then, we got very little information about what our child had experienced throughout the day. When we picked up, if we even saw one of his teachers, we'd ask how the day went and they would always say, "Good." We rarely got any more information. There would constantly be miscommunications between the staff, and we had to repeat ourselves many times to many different people if we needed to tell them something important. The teachers seem very nice, and the owner seems to really care about the school. However, I am disappointed in the inconsistent school policies and lack of communication. read more

I don't normally write reviews but I felt people should know about this school. My eldest child attended when we relocated here and he was 4yrs of age. the staff diligently advised us to have his eyes tested because they believed something was wrong. We had him examined and were told he had 20/20 vision - fast forward to school he complained he could not see, we sort referrals and eventually had him tested for Vision Processing Disorder which was confirmed. I thank the staff at Playhouse for bringing this to my attention where other (Preschools ) had called my son lazy. and without the history from Playhouse I wouldn't have pursued testing so quickly. My youngest son had trouble adjusting to pre-school and displayed a number of behavioral problems, instead of kicking him out as another school had done. The staff worked with us as a family to assimilate him into the school environment, set goals for him, worked to ensure his needs were been met, proactively redirected him when they saw him becoming stressed. openly talked about how we as a family could help him. This pre-school encourages a lot of learning through play, children have a lot of play time balanced out with classroom learning. I can't thank the team at Playhouse enough, its a special school with wonderful teachers who really take the time to understand each child and to provide a safe educational environment for them to grow in. Did not keep my children long in this school. The infant room had the sweetest teachers but the ratios were off and it was not clean. There was no toddler development... and we have been in several top centers due to relocating. Their back kitchen was also pretty run down to be serving food out of. High turnover of teachers and a pretty rude director. Once I moved my daughter out of the school she told me she needed to start another student in my sons spot. To which I had to remind her that I was still paying for my son and he had a spot until I said he was leaving (thus I did not feel comfortable keeping him very long because she was forcing him out). I really love the staff at Playhouse. We have been there for almost 9 years, starting with our first son when he was 12 weeks old, and with our next 2 boys as well. The staff rarely changes, so all my kids had the same wonderful lady take care of them as infants, the same teacher for their 2 year old class, and now the same teacher for their 4-5 year old classes. 2 of my kids are now in elementary school and they're both top in their classes academically, socialize well & seem well rounded and happy. Today I picked up my youngest from Playhouse and he was running around playing and seemed so happy, said bye and hugged all his friends on his way out. That's how it's been every day for the past 9 years we've been there. I really couldn't ask for anything more. They also do events for the holidays, for Mothers Day, Fathers Day, and it gives the kids the opportunity to perform and plan events. WONDERFUL place for learning and nurturing. My son was well ahead of his peers in both writing and reading before he went to Kindergarten. We have only been enrolled for a little bit. So far the teachers seem great. You can tell the kids having fun and are learning. One thing that i would like to see is a little less clutter, it seems they need more storage to stow supplies. They have many items/suplies on top of the cubes. Like many small preschools they can use updated/new equipment but then again the price is lower than most pre-schools. A really good school with great teachers who care and listen to the needs of children and parents. Great activities and programs year-round. This is one of the best schools in the south bay and it's a hidden gem. It's very laid back, so children feel at ease in being themselves and developing at their own pace, however they provide all the tools for those who have the desire to learn and excel. It's been about 6 months since my children went here. I still get mom guilt about it. I don't even know where to begin. They play music so incredibly loud (in order to over stimulate the children so they settle down and fall asleep for nap time) the woman in charge told me this herself! And yes even in the infant room! It was so loud, they couldn't hear me speak and I couldn't communicate with them. They said they only do it until they get in their beds and then they turn it down once they are asleep but they didn't ( I know this as I came on separate occasions to both classes and it was unbearable for even me to be in) My daughter is 3 years old and talks a lot (very good at communicating) she told me she couldn't sleep and told the teachers it was too loud and they didnt do anything. I came back with a doctors note, informing the center of their sensitive ears and need for cotton balls as ear plugs. They said okay to me, but when nap time came, they took the cotton balls away. On top of that, a student teacher slapped my almost 4 year old daughter. I understand it may have just been a young girl who wanted to prevent my daughter from taking another boys blanket playfully, but that is not what I signed up for. Nobody supervised the toilets. my daughter told me a handful of times how she watched the boys pee to see their penis. With My youngest infant ( 6 months) the only time she was able to successfully nap was when she was in the back room away from the loud music. Yes there were only a FEW times she actually napped after I spent weeks frantically trying to find care elsewhere. My oldest daughter was able to check on her infant sister and she told me that she just cried the entire time as they just kept putting food in her mouth. I showed up early once and a poor different infant was left eating all alone with no care takers in sight!I took my daughters that day and never went back. This was through at least a months worth of time. I wasn't sure if I was being too much of a helicopter parent. Don't get me wrong, my oldest daughter loved it, but I always felt that something was not right, or at least I wasn't getting the full story( especially wIth my youngest). read more
