Maybe because it was raining out and more people were there to stay dry? As others have said, games are more expensive. We didn't have much cash on us so we had to be strategic about which games we played to make it last. The machines aren't very generous with tickets (although that could just be a testament to my arcade game skills). The prizes are pretty varied and some options are higher than expected (while others are lower), but they've got some good picks. I spotted a popper I wanted, but we didn't have enough tickets. The guy behind the counter told me I could have it anyway. Half Moon could definitely stand to do some upgrades, specifically to offer a card-based system so people don't have to rely on change.

My parents used to bring us all the time when we were young; I think because MWP really IS NOT a zoo (so don't come here with that expectation). It's more of a rehabilitation center or sanctuary than anything else, and I think my parents liked how educational, real, and local it felt. We came to see Maine's wildlife in their natural habitat recover from injury, or because they were formally raised in captivity by humans, or because they were orphaned for whatever reason. It's a safe place for ME's critters who can no longer survive in the wild. (PRO TIP: Ask the staff about the animals. They have a list of all their names and how long they've been residents; if you reeeeally pry, the staff also have favorites and it's fun to hear their stories about the animals' big personalities!) I've come back a few times as an adult, and I still appreciate it. It's a gentle, relaxing way to spend a couple of hours. I've seen bears, turtles, raccoons, deer, skunks, and - yes - even moose (though, again, set your expectations accordingly: they are notorious for NOT showing up for us spectators). I have, over the years, spent a stupid amount of money feeding the trout at the pond by the hatchery. There's a ton of information there about how Dry Mills is important to the preservation and continuation of our aquatic ecological balance (they release thousands and thousands of fish into the wild every year, it's incredible!). Maine Wildlife Park itself is worth the visit, but they also have events throughout their open season as well including archery classes, plant sales, fairy-themed days, and harvest parties (just check their website FMI).

Bottom line up front: this is a center for animals which can't be released back in the wild for a…read morevariety of reasons. This isn't a zoo. However, you can see almost all the different wildlife that can be found in Maine, most importantly moose. I don't know how much I've spent on moose safaris over the past few years to never see a moose. After a nominal fee, I finally got to see one up close. They're amazing. While there are areas that have seen better days, it's good to see they're investing in improving the facilities. Definitely worth visiting, especially if you come up empty handed after a moose tour.

We have been using squirt guns for the past 13 years. It's a family tradition, and we have never had an issue. The Clark Bear employee then began taking pictures on his own personal cell phone of our children, 6 and 8, in their bathing suits. This is absolutely disturbing and disgusting !!! Be careful if you bring your children here. We will never be returning.

Serious Concerns About Emergency Signage and Safety I…read morevisited the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center on August 2, 2026, with my 9-year-old daughter. This was our first visit, and before entering I asked the staff if there was anything we needed to know. I was simply told, "Just enter and follow the signs." About halfway through our visit, we stopped at the Gordon Interactive Playscape: A Predator-Prey Adventure. After about 15 minutes, I looked around and suddenly couldn't find my daughter. I immediately began searching the indoor play area and calling her name. No answer. I went from one section to another, becoming increasingly desperate. Then I started looking for an exit sign so I could figure out how to get out and find help. I couldn't find one. When you're looking for your child and don't know where they are, every minute feels like an eternity. After approximately 10 minutes of searching, I finally found my daughter. What a relief! At that point, I decided to leave. On my way back, I started paying attention to the exit signage and counted only one clearly marked exit sign. At the gift shop, I explained my experience to a staff member and asked how many exit signs there were throughout the park. She told me there were two. I asked, "Do you believe that's enough, given the size of the park?" There was no response. My concern isn't about blaming an individual employee. It's about emergency preparedness. If a parent is desperately trying to locate a child during an emergency--or if another emergency requires visitors to leave quickly--people should be able to immediately identify where the exits and escape routes are. Clear, highly visible emergency signage is not a luxury. It is indispensable, vital, and essential. I strongly encourage the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center to revisit its emergency escape routes, exit signage, and wayfinding system. I hope the center takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements before another family finds itself in a frightening situation like the one I experienced. Thank you for your time. Eds Santiago

This thoughtful combination of learning and fun gives families & kids a nice time. I appreciated the information on how the animals ended up at science center. This added touch was informative and shows care for their animals. I highly recommend this science center for all ages. It was a delightful time well spent.

We neglected to pick up a map at the entrance, and I think that made navigating the park rather a…read morepain. There are no/very few signs throughout the park to help you figure out where to go. I didn't go on many rides because there were several that only one of my kids wanted to do and my partner and I switched off who went and who waited on the side. So based on first and secondhand experiences, the best rides were probably the log flume and the bumper cars. The Himalaya and the tea cups were maybe a bit tooo spinny for our tastes, but still very good. The monorail/skyway and the carousel were okay. Petting the reindeer was a really cool experience. You need to be patient and let them come around to you. The food (we ate at the Burger Meister food court near the skyway) was very good for theme park food. I liked that there was a long list of options and the process was fairly easy to navigate. We got the chicken tenders, hot dogs, and mac and cheese, and it was all pretty good. Ultimately, though, I think the Christmas theme is what does this park in. For me it gets pretty tired pretty quickly as a theme so unless you're really a Christmas fanatic, I don't think it's as interesting a place as even, say, Storyland. Then again, I'm Jewish, so what do I know.
