There's nothing quite as inspiring and overstimulating as a night walk through NYC. I love the city so much because there is literally a group of grown men and women playing a competitive game of flag football at 8:11pm on a Saturday night with 2 legit refs in pinstripe shirts. The game is on a brand new turf field right along the Hudson with the Financial Districts skyline glistening in the distance, enjoying the show just like I am. FiDi skyline is lowkey underrated.... But honestly, where else is this happening? I mean I'm sure it happens elsewhere lol but you see it all the time in NYC. Adults playing soccer, roller hockey, football, basketball, kickball, softball, etc. It's awesome. I think it is one of the good things about people living on top of each other in such an extreme manner. While it's cramped, everything is so close so it makes it so easy to get together. When I lived in LA, you needed to plan like two weeks in advance to link someone that lived far from you and then one of you probably bails last minute due to some crazy traffic or cuz that drive is horrend-Damn this chick just dropped a TD that hurts. QB put it right on the button too...next play mentality though. But in NYC, more so than anywhere else I've been, people feel safe and comfortable to be themselves. I'm a firm believer that in order to be truly happy, you need to be okay and content being yourself while also having a sense of belonging with other people. Some of my happiest times have been post men's league basketball game or pickleball league, just going out to a happy hour with the team BUZZING after a win. You feel so connected with other people and with yourself. At least I do. But I'm kinda a weirdo and think about sh*t like this too much ahahaha-- Damn this QB has a LASER ahahahaha I love watching a gunslinger. But yeah, I'm getting a little too reflective so Imma wrap this up. I get inspired when people do things that bring them joy, even if it's a flag football game at 8:23pm on a Saturday night. Tonight l had another great experience at Paragon thanks to the sensitivity and good nature of Mike R in the upstairs shoe and boot department. As a rule, my 88-year old husband doesn't like to buy himself new clothes. But after what feels like weeks in this polar vortex, with him stubbornly trudging and slipping through the snow in old rubber rain boots and a cane, l stopped hinting and put my foot down: we were going to buy him some warm, waterproof boots with cleats. Knowing that he might only put up with one outing, I decided to scout Paragon on my own, first. Mike R. advised me he had only one style of boot that fit what l was looking for and not many sizes left. When he came back with a size in the ballpark, l asked if he could hold it for me. Mike was blunt: he couldn't do any 24-hour holds with the stock so low, but he could hold it for two hours. I thanked him, explaining that if l bought these and presented them to my husband as a done deal he would never even try them on. But we'd be back, within the hour. When we arrived on the floor, Mike picked right up on the dynamic: this was not a customer for a hard sell. And so Mike was the soul of discretion. He kept a low profile, talking quietly and only to me and showed up just often enough to be helpful. He was patient, kind and l got the feeling he was enjoying the challenge of selling without ever even connecting with the guy trying on the boots. And Mike's strategy worked! We made the transition from my husband's original reaction to the only boots in his size ("l hate them!") to walking out with four pairs of socks and that same pair of warm, waterproof boots with cleats. I am deeply grateful to and frankly in awe of Mike R, Paragon boots department. Thank you!

My child had tons of fun, made a lot of different friends, loved his coaches, and learned a lot of soccer skills. Each day they play soccer, learn new soccer skills, have some kind of activity (e.g., watching a soccer video, cheering as the coaches vs. assistant coaches play a game, a talent show), and go to the local splashpad. As the earlier review mentioned - definitely don't send your kid in expensive cleats or clothing! But, they usually do change into water shoes and swimsuits. A great choice for active kids who love being outside. Plus, if you register early the price is really affordable.

At the end of the day when I picked up my son, the counselor didn't address me at all except to ask who I was here for. No, "Your son had a good day" or "He should work on this" No interaction with me as a parent at all. My son also came home after the first day soaked with his $175 leather cleats ruined because the counselors/coaches let him in the sprinklers with his uniform on, Pads and all. I understand that a 9 year old should be responsible for changing but my son told me that they were rushed to the sprinklers with no time to change and that almost all of the other kids were getting wet with their uniforms on as well. Lastly, they didn't seem to be keeping an eye on the kids with the sun. I guess my son forgot to put on his sunscreen but he came home burnt to a crisp. We've been to a couple of different camps over the last 2 years and the counselors/coaches are pretty well versed in dealing with forgetful 9 year olds and they understand that parents want to be spoken to. Strong soccer. Terrible camp experience.

The store itself? Massive. Clean. Feels like a shrine to sneakers and athletic greatness. You walk in and immediately feel like you should be warming up for a Champions League match instead of heading to brunch. Now let's talk World Cup gear. They definitely had World Cup apparel, but the selection felt like it was going through a mild identity crisis. Some racks were loaded with national team jerseys, scarves, and training gear--Argentina, Germany, Mexico... the usual heavy hitters. But then you'd turn a corner expecting a global soccer explosion and instead find... hoodies. Just hoodies. Regular hoodies. Like the World Cup took a lunch break. If you're hunting for a specific team or player jersey, it's a bit of a gamble. They've got solid staples, but don't expect every country, every kit, every size. It's more "greatest hits album" than full discography. The staff were friendly enough--definitely helpful if you asked--but not aggressively pushing soccer gear like it's stoppage time. Which is nice, but also... I needed someone to yell "GOOOOOAL" when I found my size. Pros: * Clean, well-organized flagship vibe * Solid selection of popular World Cup teams * Plenty of general adidas soccer gear if you just want to look sporty while ordering takeout Cons: * Selection can feel hit-or-miss depending on team/size * Not as soccer-overloaded as you might expect for a NYC flagship Final verdict: If you're in Manhattan and need World Cup gear quickly, this spot will absolutely get you match-ready. But if you're looking for a super deep, every-nation-represented soccer paradise, you might leave feeling like you hit the crossbar instead of the back of the net. 4/5 -- solid, but not quite a hat trick

There are massive concrete stadium stands facing Fifth Avenue where visitors can sit, socialize, and watch live sports broadcasts or product demonstrations on giant screens. The fitting rooms are designed to look like high school locker rooms, complete with metal benches and "gritty" NYC-style tiling. We were supposed to start the game on Sunday and we didn't receive a confirmation email about our roster and start times until Thursday night around 8 pm. In addition , the league did a terrible job of balancing the rosters. There were 3 teams in our coed league and one other team consisted of free agents. We had 4 girls on our team and the other team had 8 girls on theirs. Usually this is fine but league rules has it that you need at least 3 girls to play on defense and a girl has to kick once every 4 turns. Also one of our games the ref was late over an hour. Finally , they schedule double headers so the games run late. We had to call two of our games since they were running late. One we couldn't see anything in the pitch dark so we called it for a safety issue. The other game we had to end our playoff game early. We had a chance to kick since we were bottom of the inning but zogsports referee said since the Game was running late whoever scores first wins the game. Felt like we got cheated. It doesn't help that they take 30 minutes plus to explain the rules each game. They also have happy hour deals after the game but the bars are so far away it's not feasible.

In our correspondence with Zog, they blamed the bar that hosted the games for not communicating with them properly (cancellations were often due to the space being used by the bar for another purpose) and said that that was why we would not be refunded, as it was the fault of the bar and not Zog, calling the bar "unreliable". However, it shouldn't matter as we paid Zog for a service that we did not receive and if they have an internal issue between them and the bar, we shouldn't be the ones financially penalized. The lack of logic here is the crux of the issue. Additionally, for each cancellation we were either told at the very last minute about the cancellation, and one time we were never told at all and found out when we showed up. The games being around 9pm made this highly inconvenient. There was even a time that the ref compromised with the bar who needed the space by allowing one cornhole set out (usually there's 2) so that only half the teams could play; my team was not one of those able to play. Two of the games were cancelled due to an unavailable referee, which makes you think it's important to have one. Turns out, it's not. He wasn't even in the same room while we played (all our 2 games). I don't blame him - it would be impossible for him to keep score because there are simultaneous games. But besides coming into the room once or twice to ask how we're doing, the ref is not involved. This is fine, but then again, why are we paying the price that we are? From our 2 very expensive games, we noticed that because of the amount of people per team (6), there isn't that much game time for each person. All of these things make it hard to justify the price tag for this.

If you're considering soccer at Sternberg Park, save your money and start your own amateur league. You won't be wasting $150+ per person for Goals that blow away in the wind Fields marked by crooked plastic cones A referee who doesn't move and can't see the game An automated phone line that never connects you to a person "Weather updates" that are completely inaccurate A league that lets certain players jump from team to team A referee who plays favorites and dismisses legitimate complaints based on your accent. If you're considering signing up for Volo Sports NYC's Sternberg Park soccer league, DON'T. It's a rip off, a disorganised mess, and borderline corrupt. Our team showed up to play one night only to find the field covered in snow. Despite this, we were ready to play. The Volo referee and rep on-site told us it was too dangerous and the game was rescheduled. We did not refuse to play we were sent home. A few days later, Volo dug themselves into a hole by claiming our team "chose not to play" and that all games had gone ahead as scheduled. This was either a blatant lie or something even worse the referee deliberately sent us home while allowing other games to go ahead. We also raised concerns about the referee's ongoing bias against our team, especially after he made comments about our accents. This was completely ignored in Volo's responses, they outright refused to even address it. Volo's customer service is beyond useless. Their phone line is fully automated, forcing you to press option after option only to end up in a loop with no way to speak to a human. The weather hotline was also completely wrong, claiming all games were going ahead despite the fact that their own staff told us not to play. It took multiple emails for them to finally admit their mistake and reschedule the game. Instead of owning up immediately, they tried to gaslight, dismiss, and blame us. The volo rep is a nice guy, but the referee, an absolute disgrace. From the start, he had it out for us, making dismissive comments, telling us to "calm down" and shut up if we made loud calls to our own players in game. Other teams roster manipulation was a regular occurrence. Despite Volo doing a roll call before each game, the ref encouraged teams to bring in ringers and some of his own friends while acting like we were the problem for playing competitively. The second anyone points out that it's possible he may not be able to see everything by standing in one place you get threatened with a yellow card. I regularly come home with ankle cuts and bloody knees from other teams player but the referee claimed our team calls foul when any sort of physical tackle is made, it's a contact sport, the game is gone. Instead of rewarding teams that show up with full rosters, they create an environment where teams are better off showing up short handed so they can get a "ref approved" ringer subbed in. It's an absolute farce. Despite the referee's blatant attempts to stop us from making the playoffs, WE STILL DID. That's how much of a joke this league is even when they tried to manipulate the season against us, we still made it. Volo Sports NYC is not just overpriced, it's a scam. They take your money, deliver a subpar, borderline rigged experience, and then try to gaslight their own paying customers when called out. The lack of integrity, fairness, and basic customer service is shocking. One of the so called "perks" of the league is discounts at a bar. Except the bar is a mile away from the field, and the discount is literally just $1 off after you pay full price first. That's not a benefit, that's an insult. If you're looking for a well run, professional, and fair soccer league in NYC look elsewhere. I give them 1 star only because their volleyball league is pretty awesome and I'm happy to admit it.
