After back surgery, my doctor directed me to have physical therapy. The choice was mine, so I chose Playa Physical Therapy (plus they accept my insurance...lol). They have a waiting list to get in and small staff. Very cozy little establishment off the beaten path. Emily was my therapist for 6 weeks and was absolutely wonderful. I have been to Playa Physical Therapy 3 times now for sudden weight bearing shoulder injuries which resulted in my having to stop my lap swimming workouts for several months each time. Aaron was able to rehabilitate my shoulder injuries using progressive strength and stretching techniques, and a swimming regimen that slowly got me back in the pool so that I would not overwork and re-injure my shoulders. Aaron's goal is to start back at your workout as soon as possible, but with expert coaching to tailor the workout length and level of exertion. Aaron has an expert knowledge of anatomy, and targets the injured muscle groups with individual tailored strength and stretching exercises. After working out for 20+ years, I have been to other physical therapists in years past, and had never had any success. I dislocated my knee and have been going to physical therapy here with Amanda and she is amazing. She has such a wonderful bedside manner, is caring, attentive and so knowledgeable. I am in such great hands with her and am seeing great improvements in my knee. As for the actual place, it is small and quiet which I love because it creates a calm ambience that is therapeutic. You get one on one attention the whole time you are there! I really look forward to to my sessions here! Also I have never had a problem with parking twice I paled right in front of the door (for free) and the other time I parked right around the side in a lot also for free! Playa Physical Therapy is by far the most caring, professional, innovative Physical Therapy clinic I have ever visited. The staff is flexible, Aaron is helpful and truly cares about the pain and recovery of his patients. I have a rare disorder and he has taken the time to understand what is involved in my treatment. I have moved out of the area and really have hoped to continue my program there. I am not sure that I can manage it. I am just not sure I want to go anywhere else. I called these guys up when I couldn't get an appointment through my insurance. They are a little pricey, but have availability and are soooo kind and helpful. Through insurance, I was going to have to wait 2-3 weeks just to get my first appointment! And that's after waiting for the authorization, which you need to MAKE the appointment. So, I headed to these guys as I could hardly stand for more than 30 minutes after learning I had an 8mm bulging disc between L4/L5. Lupe was super helpful on the phone, and set me up with an appointment very quickly - maybe even the next day (can't remember exactly)! She explained exactly how to get there and made it very easy. Very friendly, helpful, amazing!! Rhea Deal was the Physical Therapist who saw me when I went in. She has such a great energy about her, was very calm and careful, and very knowledgeable. She made sure nothing she did hurt me. She measured me, gave me exercises and chatted like normal human beings! It was very nice to have such a friendly therapist, she instantly gained my trust and made it fun, and comfortable. You can tell she loves what she does. And, I always felt great walking out of there! I only saw her 3 times, but I was sad to leave. She knew from the start I was waiting for insurance to kick in, and knew I wasn't going to be seeing her until my full recovery. She still approached our sessions with the same amount of care she'd give anyone else. When I told her where I was going next, she looked them up on her spare time to see if she knew anyone over there, and to see what their qualifications were. On my next appointment, she told me that, and told me some of the therapists over there had certain credentials that means they are more experienced than some, and that I should be in good hands. She also seemed very sincere about wanting to hear how I was doing as I progressed. She answers her emails very diligently, and was happy to explain things to me again, as I'd forget how she worded something to be able to explain to others what was going on! Overall, was a great experience. I would highly recommend Playa Physical Therapy, and Rhea Deal! THANK YOU SO MUCH! btw... Just over 5 weeks after the spasms started, I am doing a lot better. I came to Playa Physical Therapy after hurting my neck, arm and back in a car accident. One of the most amazing features about this clinic is that you get the entire 45 minutes with your physical therapist! It is so rare to find a clinic that gives you 45 minutes with your doctor. I am never passed off to an aide or limited to just 15-20 minutes with the physical therapist! I was very fortunate to get Terry Chu as my physical therapist!! He is the reason I am back to full duty at work and my regular high intensity workouts as well as pain free with all these activities. He did a very thorough examination and determined that the radiating pain in my arm was coming from my neck and in just one visit my pain was significantly reduced! He was so generous with his time, attention detail and determination to get me pain-free and back to my normal every-day activities. I called to inquire about setting up a first time appointment. I told them it would be through my workers comp insurance. The girl on the phone replied "Uh.... we don't do workers comp" which I then let her know there is a whole section of their FAQ on their website which explicitly says they do and what you need to bring with you to your first appointment. The girl on the phone replied, "Yeah... I don't know why that's on there, we don't do it" with an attitude like I was making it up. You guys need to update your website and train your receptionist to more polite when there is an error on your part. read more

I've been working with James at this location for the last 6 weeks to rehab a significant rotator cuff surgery. James knows his stuff!! Very knowledgeable, very attentive and extremely dedicated to his craft. The other staff are all friendly, helpful and accommodating to your needs. I had a shoulder injury from too much fun sports. So I finally did the smart thing and visited a PT instead of constantly re-injuring it every weekend. Terry did a great job of listening and adapting the program to rehab and strengthen nearby muscles. The suggested exercises really pin pointed my weak and sore spots. My first time with PT. I wasn't sure what to expect. Rhea was a dream. I am a huger joker. I make jokes about everything and she took it all in stride. One of my big jokes that also isn't a joke, I hate to be touched. I am very funny about who, how, everything. Rhea laughed at my jokes but also heard my underlying concern and took me very seriously. I really appreciate that. She is professional and knows her stuff. Unfortunately I was only able to have 2 appointments with her. My orthopedic surgeon said, big fat no, on PT until after I have a hip replacement. Can you guess where I will be going and who I want to see, after my hip replacement?? Yup you guessed right. Physical Therapy was unknown to me until I had a serious hip problem: no cartilage between bone and I needed surgery. Since it was Christmas time my doctor thought best to wait until after the holiday and sent me to Playa Physical Therapy when Aaron Willis helped alleviate the pain. This was such a positive approach to my problem and Playa Physical Therapy was of such high caliber professionalism, there was no doubt they could, and did help me. After the surgery at Stanford where I had limited Physical Therapy, I knew when back in Los Angeles area I must continue therapy as I had many issue i.e. walking up stairs, stepping off curbs, etc. all difficult with artificial hip. Well, Playa Physical Therapy resolved my issues and I was beginning to function as before. I could have ended physical therapy except I knew to maintain and keep my joints healthy I should continue therapy and did so. To help me reach this goal Playa Physical Therapy devised a set of exercises, done at home which augmented a monthly appointment. This was very important for a continuity of motivation and focusing on health needs. I have been a patient of Aaron Willis for 9 or 10 years. At an advanced age, I have had various physical problems that interfere with my regular 4 x 4 volleyball games. To put this in context, most of the other players are at least 35 years younger than I am. Aaron's gentle but accurate touch (along with some UV treatment) and great diagnostic skills, have kept me playing, and able to keep up with the youngsters. He has extended my playing life considerably. Over the previous 10 or 15 years, before I encountered Aaron, I worked with other Physical therapists, all of whom were Doctors of Physical Therapy, as is Dr. Willis. But none have exhibited both the skill and the personal care and concern as has Aaron. For the record, I note that he has three other 5-star reviews, all of which confirm my feelings about him. And the only adverse reviewer complains about his billing practice but says that she would also give him 5 stars except that someone in his office didn't explain the billing practice. Isn't that like going to a restaurant and saying I loved your food but your prices are too high. If financial concerns trump quality of service, you should clarify those concerns before receiving the service. read more

I came in with a fractured broken left arm. Not only was I rehabilitated ahead of schedule, my left arm became stronger and more flexible than my right arm towards the end of treatment. I am right handed! You can tell they really care about their patience, and love what they do as well! The hands on treatment and the exercises were top notch. Went in for some minor help with my shoulder and was treated by Dr. Rhea Deal, she got right in to the spot and did therapeutic deep massage to increase mobility and assigned a few simple exercises.. This was different than my past pt experiences which were almost entirely based on exercises and stretches this was more balanced. Only went a few times in conjunction with a few shots from the ortho doc... Anyways the good Dr Deal has a magical touch and really helped, highly recommend this gem of a healer... i had a pretty serious knee injury playing soccer and my physician recommended PT to get me going again. this was my first physical therapy experience, and I'll have to say I'm really impressed. it's amazing how much having the right exercises/stretches can make a difference in the speed of recovery. Earlier this year in March, I had an accident snowboarding and tore my ACL. Per orders of my surgeon, I went to Playa Physical Therapy to receive therapy prior to my ACL reconstruction surgery - the intention of my doctor was to strengthen the muscles around the ACL so recovery after the ACL sugery would be faster. I originally went in with no expectations and just received therapy per my doctor's orders. However, I was most incredibly surprised with the outcomes that I had received through my therapist Terry Chu. This guy knows his stuff. He knows the right treatments whether it is Bemer treatments, ultrasound treatments or other electromagnetic treatments. In addition, he knows the proper exercises that are needed to strengthen the muscles around the affected area. Through my extensive physical therapy sessions with Terry, my orthopedic surgeon had found out that when he went in to perform the ACL reconstruction surgery, my ACL had reattached and self healed! He was in shock and said that this happens in less than one in 200 cases. I attribute my healing to the Playa Physical Therapy sessions and treatments that I received through Terry Chu. Positive experiences is truly an understatement....I experienced most unbelievable outcomes with Terry and Playa Physical Therapy. I am a weekend warrior sports enthusiast and over the past several years I have seen Aaron Willis for numerous sessions. I've fought knee and elbow pain a lot and I always feel confident in his procedures and suggested programs. More importantly, they work. My most recent physical issue was much more serious. I herniated my L2 spine disc and had to have microdistecktomy 11/27/2012. Fortunately, I got good advice (from Aaron) and went to the best spine surgons on the planet, I think. The Wadkins Spine Center in Southern California. Note: NBA star Dwight Howard had the same surgery at the same place. After the surgery there is a planned long physical therapy regime. I mentioned to the doctor that I had a good relationship with Aaron Willis and Playa Physical Therapy and expected him to tell me that they had their own specialist. He immediatedly said, "Oh, Aaron is great. He's the guy to see". After 5 months of working with Aaron (2x a week - now down to 1x a week) I am back on the courts playing at about 80% and getting better and pain free. I cannot tell you how desperate I was feeling 6 months ago... One thing I forgot to mention, I met Aaron through my mother-in-law who had gone to see Aaron for some leg pain. She is not a "weekend warrior" - just a middle aged woman who needed help with some ailments and Aaron helped her out. It was one of those, "what have you got to loose?" situations and fortunately, I went to meet Aaron and I am still happy to walk in his door when I need his help.
