North beach! This is the spot…read more The water has buoys marking the spot for swimmers to swim. The crystal blue waters, the white sand beach. Tequila. Cerveza. This place has it all. The water is pretty calm, so no putting up with massive waves. The pelicans stay a good distance away. There's so many options in staggering distance from this beach for bathrooms, cantinas, drinks, shade, whatever. This is the top end of isla mujeres (island of women.) The other end of Isla Mujeres, across the island from this beach is the easternmost point of Mexico! This beach is free. It's not associated directly with any hotel or restaurant, so anyone can come here, and they do.

Shallow waters make it a perfect beach for enjoying both sand and surf. Many boats will pull up to this beach as well and people will get off and wade up to the beach restaurants/bars. We had minimal seaweed when we were there. Many of the beachfront hotels offer umbrellas and beach chairs. You do not have to be a guest of the hotel to use the umbrellas/chairs. They will charge approximately $150 MEX per chair and umbrella. Pay in Pesos. It cost us $450 for all three. That's only about $23 USD for all day so it's very affordable. The only downside is the constant flow of vendors selling everything from massages to trinkets, to beach towels. Don't be surprised if you see various forms of fully armed Mexican law enforcement. Bottom line - Beautiful beaches, soft sand, and perfect water. What more can you ask for.

Exactly how a beach on your vacation should be!…read more Two words: Tranquil & quiet! If you truly like quiet beaches that are peaceful and away from crowds, head here. Xcacelito is a sanctuary and beach for nesting turtles which is open to the public. The entrance 'fee' is a donation. The beach is breathtaking and one of a kind! The water was warm, pristine and crystal clear. You will not find a lot of folk here all at one time, which is a good thing. You practically feel like you're on a private beach that you own. I couldn't find anything wrong with this destination, except that the beach closes at 4pm and doesn't have much shade. We got here around 1pm. Next time, I would come earlier in the day (it opens at 10) and bring an umbrella but the few hours we spent here was amazing and this was the best beach of the trip. The only thing missing was booze and food. The only food allowed is fruit and water but that is all you really need I guess. Another highlight with this destination, is that It is very close to Dos Ojos Cenote so you can go to both places for a fun day trip. After your Ocean bath, you can enjoy a fresh-water-dip in a beautiful cenote (fresh water sinkhole) situated in the middle of the forest. That is what we did and it made for a perfect ending to our trip. In all, a top quality beach experience. No vendors, no crowds, and no hassles. Definitely leave Playa del Carmen and come here for a beach day. For the nature-lovers out there, this beach and sanctuary is paradise! Tips, Bearings & Points of Interest to keep in mine: * The North end is sheltered for turtle nesting and you will find the coral reefs here perfect for snorkeling. Lots of fish and sea-life to see. * The South end you will find the Cenote and cannot miss the signs.

One of the drivers @ the resort recommended this place to us. Not only that, he took us there,…read morewhich was roughly 30 minutes away & waited there til we were done. I have a huge fear of heights and I don't swim..so doing this...helped me conquer those fears a bit. Our tour guide was amazing. He was friendly and hilarious! We started off by zip lining, very fun. After that, we jumped into their first sink hole ( where I thought if I jumped and covered my face..I could preserve my makeup...wrong, lol ). After a few jumps into the first sinkhole, we went ATV riding. Suchhhh fun! The thrill on that ATV was amazing! We drove the ATV's to their 2nd large sinkhole. Where we were able to zip line into the water below, OR you could jump off their manmade "cliffs" (per-say). Lord have mercy on my soul, I was shaking like a baby, but after a few " screw it Vy, you got here this far, might as well " I managed. The last jump, however...landed wrong and ended hurting myself a bit. Regardless, those precious memories of conquering your own fears, is what I live for. After the 2nd sinkhole, we took the ATV a different route back to base, to which they had lunch ready for us. Note, you aren't allowed to take your phone with you. Or use sunscreen or bug repellent, they want to preserve the waters in the sinkholes. And pictures are done through them, you can purchase after the whole shenanigans.

GREAT EXPERIENCE! People were great!…read more In addition to lockers, also a full restaurant w/beer (no hard liquor). The chicken empanadas and the tacos were great. Would not really recommend the chicken flautas (more like chicken fingers and cheese flautas). If you do this as a tour package, the tour operators MAY tell you no cellphones so they can sell you the photo package. We drive there ( no parking fee) so we were allowed phones. There are two Cenotes. DO the package w/two Cenotes. Even though the Cenote at the main place is nice, the one offsite is even better. 3 levels of platforms to jump from and a very LARGE Cenote to swim in. Even though we took out own pictures, we bought the picture package for $60 usd as the photographer took some really great pictures. Highly recommend this place.
