The store front is usually decorated in various large fishing items such as small boats, ice augers, pop up ice houses, etc. Upon entry, you are greeted by friendly staff behind the counter and a wide selection of apparel suited for anyone who is an outdoors enthusiast. I need to go pick up one of those Vexilar hoodies... I was impressed with the wide variety of jeans, Carhartt gear and a huge selection of boots of all ages. Up the stairs is anything you would need for a day out on the water (or frozen water). From rods to anchors, from vexilars to live bait, this place truly has it all! I have never used their live bait so honestly I don't know the quality of it. The staff is friendly and quite knowledgeable as well. This is the only spot I go whenever I need new tackle or gear for ice fishing or summer fishing.

After a week, having not received any shipping info, I emailed them to ask for info. The next day they replied in email that it turned out they didn't actually have the bindings that I'd ordered so they never sent them. They didn't even bother telling me until I emailed them, just never sent them! I had a non-refundable slalom race trip I'd booked. They cost me a ton of money. Absolutely enraging. We found the Ski Hut location near Spirit Mountain to have a good selection of bikes with half day rental available and located right adjacent to the trail. We worked with Chris and Shawn to get bikes lined up for our group. They were both really great to work with, totally low key, knowledgeable and helpful. We upgraded our original plans to ebikes which were a big hit as we had widely different endurance abilities in our group. Chris set us up with Trek bikes with the Bosch mid-drive system. Really a nice quality bike for a rental and decently priced too. Easily my first choice shop for my next visit to the area.

Jeannie Thoren and her husband Tom Haas opened up shop in December 2009. I happened on them as I…read moremade my way through Lionshead trying to find a pair of ski boots that fit. As it turns out they specialize in women's ski boot fitting. Jeannie was attentive to the challenges I faced and the injury I incurred using improperly fit boots earlier in the week. She has spent much of her career explaining "how the anatomical differences between men and women affect ski performance and how gender-specific equipment makes a difference." I can attest to her exceptional level of customer service and commitment to finding the equipment that works. She has fitted me in several different boots and let me demo the equipment on the mountain to assess the performance and comfort. With each new pair of boots, Tom adjusted my bindings and sent me on my way. She also carries women's clothing, hats, goggles, helmets, and gloves and provide ski tuning. Her recent trip to the ski show in Denver netted some super cute hats and mittens. Theirs is a comfortable and friendly shop and you are likely to find yourself chatting with other customers and those who drop by to say hi to the owners. They are clearly well-known in the industry. I intend to return tomorrow on my quest to find the right boots for me.

We went in to exchange it and they could have not been more accommodating. She did not have the receipt and had removed the tags. They knew it was their product and were happy to make the swap for a larger size. As she made the swap, I browsed through the store with my other cousin. Oh my, the variety of merchandise was mind blowing. They had everything you'd need for a camping trip. They even sell camping packages for the boundary waters and when you check-in on Yelp they offer a 15% off coupon. If you're a fisher, they also offer live bait to help you catch that big fish. That way your "big fish" story will be truth instead of a made up one. My other cousin who was traveling with us, caught so much fish during our trip, that when we left Ely, we had to stop at Spirit to buy dry ice. When in Ely, I highly recommend that you shop, Spirit.
