Visiting Empire Michigan from Texas. 2 weeks up here with my wife's family. Father-in-law has Large 2 year old full blood German Shepherd. I have a 1 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. The both of them are males. They had played (rough at times) well together for the first 7 days, with no problems. Then out of the blue that changed. The both of them got banged up a bit. Poor Rhodi (my dog), He broke his lower right K9 down below the gum line and ended up with a pretty good hole in his shoulder from one of Barons (other dog) K9's. I called and was told by the very pleasant young woman that the Doctor would have me come in at once. I arrived quickly (short-drive from empire). Again a courteous and knowledgeable lady was there to help. Rhodi was weighed and taking back to a very clean and well supplied exam room. Doctor came in and from then on the care was above and beyond any I could or would have ever expected. The Doctor took mine and Rhodi's worry from, 'will he make it?!', to 'thank God he's going to be fine.', A few hours later Rhodi was back with us and on his road to recovery. The Doctor and his staff not only made a terrible experience bearable, they did it from start to finish with excellence. With all that was wrong with Rhodi I thought the bill was going to be outrageous. But before anything was done the Doctor gave me a breakdown of what care was needed and even showed me on paper the list of need and an itemized billing amount for the total. It was far far less than I ever expected. Do yourself, family, pets and livestock a favor, bring them to these folks. It honestly is the only way to go round this part of Michigan. read more

THEY DO NOT DO A THOROUGH JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They told us our dog had Lymphoma and had a few months left to live. They did NOT do any testing and just went off of his swollen glands. SO GLAD WE GOT A SECOND OPINION at a DIFFERENT vet!!! Turns out our dog has spleen cancer and that was causing the swollen glands. The other vet did so much more at the first visit than Platte lake EVER did for our dog. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. read more

We were on vacation in the area and our dog started developing symptoms of a UTI . We called several area vets with no help for folks that weren't patients . These folks were great , got us right in and took great care of our pup like we were long term patients. Wish we were local because we would become permanent patients. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET THEY HAVE NOT SERVICED OUR ANIMALS PROPERLY. Turning a sick cat with a tooth infection away that they were told the she will need vaccination updates and agreed to see her, turning our GSD away for a nail trim because he was moving his feet (not growling or biting), office manager is rude without proper communication or facts (tried to tell me cats are required to have vaccination in Michigan - NOT TRUE!!!), poor communication from the doctor who won't answer inquiries like what was the results of a stool sample, etc. and subpar exam. We work very hard to provide our animals with the best and healthiest environment we can give them. This Veterinary clinic has shown that they really don't care to service but come up with excuses for their failings with no effort to rectify. We are done and will no longer be a client. My advice is to stay away from this Veterinary clinic. read more

We brought our dog Riley Bleu to Platte Lake Veterinary clinic this past Monday. It was the first time we had gone to this clinic as we have a cottage up north and did not have a Vet for Riley. We had an emergency with my dog and they took him in right away The same day. We were seen by Dr David Nelson and associate, as Riley had a broken toenail inside his paw and it was jammed up inside his toe. We are very pleased with the care and outcome and will highly recommend them to anyone. This clinic was very professional and clean inside and we are very impressed with his care. Riley is doing great as of today (Thursday). Dr Nelson is a very caring Dr that truly loves animals. If we ever need a vet while we spend summers we will surely go back. If I had rated this business 4 years ago it would have been 5 stars. I am not sure what has changed internally but their caring attitude is lost! They are unable to see an established patient due to no appointments or limited doctors in the office for simple diagnoses such as an ear infection. The receptionist will tell you the doctor will call when she gets a moment but never calls back. When you ask when the next available appointment it can be a full week away. I decided to pick up an immunization record to take to a new veterinary clinic the same day I was told there were no appointments, and was shocked that all three rooms were unoccupied. I was waiting at the receptionist desk for 20 minutes for a few copies. I believe they have totally lost their empathy for an animal in pain or are not interested in keeping their customers. What an enormous disappointment for this community and a business that used to be exceptional. read more

I would rate Platte Lake Vet a 3 stars if I only rated my visits today and yesterday. I gave them 5 stars because of the excellent care they have given our dogs over many years. Yesterday I brought our dog in for kidney stone evaluation. he is having an ultrasound today. Two things concerned me. In the past, the owners and animals were taken into an exam room to wait for the vet by themselves. This time all of the animals and owners stayed together in the waiting room until one by one, the animals were taken into the back. it made it very difficult because the animals were excited to meet each other and jumping all over everyone. After the animals were treated, the vet would bring them back and talk to the owner - in the waiting room. There was no privacy and it was very uncomfortable listening to the conversations between the owner and the vet. one conversation was about putting a cat to sleep. The policy makes waiting for the vet difficult because the animals are acting up, and discussions between the owner and vet should take place in private. read more

There's a special group of people at this vet clinic. All of our dogs are taken here for routine exams, treatment and meds if needed. We know all three of our dogs will be treated with exceptional care, like we'd want them treated. We have a male and female Cockapoo and a mini male poodle. They talk about our dogs like they know them personally. We can't expect any more than that. We highly recommend this practice. read more

I was on an extended stay in Honor taking care of my father when one of my Pomeranians developed a severe cough. When I called the clinic I expected I would have to wait a day or so for an appointment especially since I was calling on a Saturday. But they fit me in, were very accommodating, friendly and professional. They took care of my baby's cough and were very gentle with her as she was very stressed. It's good to know that I have a veterinarian I can count on when I am here and away from my own veterinarian. Highly recommend. Very clean and spacious exam rooms too. I think Platte Lake Vet clinic is the best! Years ago when our blue heeler was just a bably, Dr. Whitney came in on an emergency call over a holiday weekend and, as far as we are concerned, saved her life. Now, Dr. Nelson has been caring for our lab mix for the last week, (we really miss her) and has done a wonderful, compassionate, caring and awesome job with her! We hope to be able to bring her home tomorrow and it is all because of him! And maybe a little help from above :-) I would recommend them to anyone for one of your four legged family members! read more
