There were two people ahead of me with a small amount of items, and they took almost an hour to get through my stuff. They shoved everything back in the bag all scrunched up without folding it at all. There is a sign in there that says they like to buy American eagle, they have so much American eagle stuff in there. It's almost like a full American eagle store. I don't understand it, that stuff is so cheap to begin with why would you buy it secondhand? My biggest problem with the store is the employee that rang me up was so rude. Honestly, this seems to be a problem all over the country with Plato's closet. I don't know why in the three states I've lived in the employees are consistently so rude. I recommend Fashion Cents Ephrata! They are nice, helpful, always greet with a smile, and they are so busy they take a TON of clothing and even let you know what you should bring back and sell in a different season! Organized, well stocked and clean. This site provides a vast array of gently used clothing and accessories for all sizes and style preferences. The spacious floor plan is well kept which makes it feel less cluttered than many other thrift stores I've visited. Prices are a bit higher than I would have expected to pay for used items ($9+ for a used dress) Dressing rooms are stalls on the main floor that do not provide locks which makes for a rushed and uncomfortable try on experience for fear of someone opening the door- intentionally or otherwise. In conclusion, I would visit here again if all other options (ie. Ross, Marshals, Etc.) do not work out. read more

*DON'T waste your time taking your clothes here* This place took an hr and a half to supposedly look through my clothes. I was returning two shorts I had purchased from there about a wk ago. (Each short priced at $8) they ended up only taking one pair of shorts and 4 shein items that were bathing suits a 2 piece outfit and said they can only offer me $8.34. The shorts alone were priced at $8 already.. so I was beyond confused why I was only receiving $8 and they took 6 items and 1 of which was already priced at 8. Then the girl tried to tell me we can't take shorts if they already had our price tag on it. I turn around and say both shorts had the price tag on it but you were able to take one and not the other. The other girl said oh the other shorts had a stain on them.. I'm like a stain that was already on there when purchased from this store last week. Point of the story they took 6 items! Gave me $4 for Levi shorts, that they knew were going to be resold for $8. 5 pairs of shein clothes that they said were only worth $1 to give back to me but resale in in there store for $8-10 a piece. read more

I brought in 2 bags of mostly denim/jeans (they are doing a "denim drive" right now so I had hoped they might buy more) with a few shoes and other items tossed in. The process to sell is easy e laugh but after 30 min they only wanted 3 items since everything was "older" and "no longer in style". One of the 3 items was a genuine leather The Sak purse (which is waaaaay older than most of the jeans I brought) and I was told they could offer $7 for 3 things including the bag. I told them no and they returned me my items. They say some items you bring are "out of style" or "old" meanwhile they 1) have pretty limited mid to plus size stock and 2) only buy basically preppy clothes and seldom anything alternative. I remember back in like 2016-17 I could easily get $80 for 10 or so items but now they don't buy anything and pay dirt when they do! read more

Took over 50 items in last week including 2 with tags that I bought there a month ago. Within 15 min I got a text that I could return. They took nothing!!! Said they don't buy women's clothes. What-my friend just sold her womens clothes 2 weeks ago!!! And I bought a lot of women's clothes. Because I'm a middle aged Mom they wanted nothing to do with me. I went in at 8:05 after calling to make sure they were still open and still buying clothing. I was told on the phone that they do not buy after 8:30 pm. First their open sign was off so I was hesitant to walk in because this is not the first time it has happened to me. I then walked in and am told that they usually do not but after 8,which is not what I was told on the phone but she said they would. As I waited for my clothing to be done the employees were in a circle, or they were staring at me. I really did not have a good experience or felt welcomed. Legit spot. They have top brands, put in order of size and color coded! So much easier to find stuff than most second hand stores. The prices in here are very reasonable so you will be saving money for sure. Plenty of changing rooms. Large selection of shoes that are in good condition. Mostly women's (of course) however do have a few racks of men's clothes. read more

Went here recently, The employees were incredibly lazy. I had a whole duffel bag of clothes that I was looking to sell. I had a really good namebrand things in there and designer brands, some that were never worn and still had tags on. After waiting 30 minutes, I was told everything was too old or not in style right now. When I went home to open the bag, everything was where it was left. I organized everything in a very specific way, and they didn't even open the bag and even look through it. What's the point of your job if you're not even gonna do it? read more

Brought clothing in for my grand daughter since she works. I am older a senior citizen and staff had me log in with my drivers license. I had 3 over full baskets of clean folded trendy clothing. Staff took baskets put them on floor behind counter and never even looked through them. Called me back to the counter in less than 8 minutes and told me the clothing was to "Dated" . They never even looked at it ! I know since i was there in the store the entire time. The barely out of teens age staff clearly decided they would not accept anything from me based solely on MY AGE and not the clothing in the baskets. I have shopped at Plato's Reading since they were in the old location and have been to the new one many times. I have gotten some clothes there but never once has it been a good experience. The employees are so incredibly rude, it's unbelievable. During one visit I was shopping in an aisle and two of the workers came in and starting putting things away right in front of where I was trying to look. One of the clothing hangers I was holding literally got caught on the one of the workers and I was shoved up against the other side because of how tight it is in there. She didn't apologize. Today, in particular, my sister and I were standing by the fitting rooms waiting for the employee that was there to get us rooms. It was obvious why we were standing there but she was arranging stuff so I thought no big deal we can wait till she's done. She looked up at us and then turned around and walked away. My sister just put the clothes on the return rack because she was so disgusted. The place is so dirty too. The dressing rooms are tiny and there's no bench or little table to put the clothes that you're wearing on. You have to try to hang them on the tiny hooks. Additionally, the restrooms have been "out of order" for months (even though the employees use them) which is incredibly annoying when you're trying to shop and you have to go elsewhere to use the restroom. And to top it all off, once we asked to use the handicap dressing room and a worker told us "sorry we are storing clothes in there right now." Nice. Almost forgot to mention the prices...they are way overpriced. There was a Target brand jean jacket priced the same that I could get it at Target brand new. Take it from someone who's been there many times hoping that it'll get better...it won't. read more

Had a great experience here! Love the new location, I sold clothing, and it was an hour and 5 minute wait, which I was ok with as I shopped for the hour and time went by quickly. Most items that I found for myself in the store were under $10, most of which being only $8, which I was very happy with. Apparently you get a 10% off discount if you buy/ trade in clothes, which associates at other stores NEVER informed me off, so I was very happy to hear the associates tell me this at this location Shout out to sales associate Alysa who was very friendly and helpful as well! This has been eating at me for well over a year now maybe two --I have always made out very well whenever I took any of my stuff to this or any other Plato's location. The most this location has ever offered me was $331 with the lowest they ever offered being $175. I was even told by a manager at this particular Plato's that in the system my name had an asterisk next to which she said meant that I "had good stuff" they were always very kind and courteous especially one manager in particular who was also a mother herself. However, one day I decided to unload some more of my stuff I did the usual of checking in and putting my stuff on the counter I also took my Movado Bold watch off and told the man at the counter I wanted to see what I would be offered for that he said ok, I remember it clearly because I didn't want my Movado to be lost or put with anyone else's stuff had someone else came in. I don't remember exactly what I was offered that day but my receipt did not have my watch listed on it AND they didn't tell me an offer for it so It should have been with my "pass" items, however it was NOT! I was livid! I called and told them about this and they said it wasn't at the store and I told them to check their employees belongings as it was not given back to me, they had their security team call me and the man clearly stated that he saw me put the watch with my items and speak to the worker about said watch and that was it, he had no explanation for where it went or what happened to it! Someone obviously stole my Movado watch! Days later after I called numerous times I was called back and told they were sorry and they could offer me $45 for my $495 watch! Thinking it over they say they offer 30-40% of the original price well if it was $495 if I was offered just 30% it should have been about $150! I definitely should have called the authorities on this one I just can't believe how they handled this, I felt there was nothing that I could have done but take the $45 they offered I should have never done that! They definitely stole my watch! Karma is a B remember that! That was a disgrace, never shop there! read more

I agree with Kyra S. I've brought to the store bags of clothes from my teenage daughters. They give me back everything that I've brought every time. They say the same spiel 'thank you for bringing your items in. However, these were not what we are looking for at this time. Some are out of style and the jeans we no longer carry.' So then, since we're there, my girls want to shop. Guess what? The same style of clothing they just rejected is the same style they are selling. With the exception of stains & pulls or holes in 'their' clothing. Haven't been back since. I believe this is why this store in particular has a lot of turn over and has closed & moved a few times. I'm am very surprised... I used to love this place until today. I took in this huge bin of clothes, all name brand. They took nothing. NO THING. I can't believe it. They said things were stained and outdated. Nothing was stained! I will admit some of the things were a little on the older side but most of it was pretty new. I literally had a new pair of american eagle jeans and they didn't want them. A lot of the stuff i see there in Plato's is worse than the clothes that they didn't take. Cute clothes, yes. Nice employees? Hell no. Everyone who works there is pretentious and think they're better than everyone else. Wish I could shop there because like I said, they have great clothing, but not when the workings are COMPLETELY rude. Also they rejected my clothes even though more than half of them were great and never worn. The workers need to be nicer, it's not fair how they treat everyone. Plus they scam you. I go to other places that buy clothing and those places pay A LOT more and will actually take your clothes. I have had two very disappointing experiences recently selling clothes at the Reading, PA location. Both times I took up to date and good clothes expecting good results. Both times a man went through the clothes and passed on most. I think the men view clothes from a different visual perspective. When I have sold to women they bought most of my clothes and accessories. I will not sell to that store anymore unless a woman goes through the clothes. The store doesn't have the designer selection of the Paoli store and most things seem overpriced. The thing I love most about the Paoli store is the selection of designer and unique items. Reading does not offer that and I am generally dissatisfied with what they have to offer. In the future I will travel to Paoli. They have had women selecting the clothes they will buy when I was there before and I have had much more success with that. Women know more what other women will like and buy. read more
