Cons: Out of 10 full trash bags of clothes in really good shape they literally only took 14 items; basically 5%. However we did get $40 for those 14 things so not terrible. I find it ridiculous that Plato's often times won't accept almost brand new clothes from sellers but will purchase and sell shorts that have period blood from the previous owner. I did not realize they had stains until after I bought them at final sale. No return since it was on clearance. I thought it was be obvious that they don't buy clothes with blood in them. I was just about to wash them and try to get the small stains out when I flipped over the pocket and saw this disgusting mess. Ended up throwing them away. This is completely unsanitary and disgusting!! Moral of the story is, make sure you check your clothes for any stains or blood because this Plato's obviously doesn't look and is willing to rip you off. My first experience at Plato's Closet I took a large bag of clothes to sell and they told me I can come back in half an hour or they'll text me when it's ready, then I saw her put the bag in the floor by the backroom. So I left, did some things, got no call, and went back half an hour later. When I went in I saw the bag sitting in the same spot she left it and they told me "these items have stains and don't comply to the style we sell here." I was very upset to hear this, one: most clothes had tags on them. Two: I checked all the clothes and separated the ones that had stains (didn't even take those to sell here). And three: the bag looked untouched. Do they even go through these clothes? I will never go back here because it was a waste of time. Lost my business. read more

This location is the best in San Antonio. If your clothes are in good conditions, free of stains and holes, and not super old, you can sell them. Don't expect to get as much as you paid, but you can get a decent amount selling denim and CLEAN shoes. The customer service is always amazing and your always greeted by at least 3 people. The managers accommodate most people's needs, and while it is sometimes awkward hearing your clothes are out of style, the buyers are friendly and considerate when presenting your offer. I ended up needing to return a few things since they did not fit and the employees were rude about it . I am honestly confused about some of the things that they rejected. I brought in one basket and one bag. Some of those items include 2 pair of Nike shorts one white and one navy blue that were worn one time, 3 brand name pencil skirts (one with the $80 price tag still on it), one Ralph Lauren polo v neck that has zero stains and looks new to me, VS Pink sweat pants with rhinestones on the side (not missing one single rhinestone), and 3 pairs of American eagle jeans. That's just the things I brought that don't really go out of style. I worked at a consignment store for 4 years and some of the items they rejected I can understand but it's like they went through the bag and didn't go through the basket. Don't recommend selling your things here. The employees are rude and pressure you into selling your things for $1. There's really no question if the price is ok. It's just here's your money and that's it. If you change your mind the manager is super rude even after her employees don't give you a chance and make you feel like your putting them out by asking if you can see the prices they gave. Then if you ask for a few of the items you didn't want to sell for that cheap. They roll there eyes and expect you to be able to fish it out when you can barley get your arm under the plastic divider. I asked if I could have a certain item back and she just pushed the box to me and stared at me. But I couldn't get to it because the box was standing straight up and I couldn't reach it under the plastic divider and no they don't help you. read more

This store is LOADED! Pros: SO many clothes to look through! I like their organization by type of garment and clear sizing labels. Everything I saw was definitley on-trend. The mens section is HUGE compared to most secondhand stores. Cons: There is an overwhelming amount of garbage clothes (Forever 21, H&M, Target brands). But that's the nature of the store, appealing to the younger crowd. Also I really wanted to find some shoes, but they are not organized by size AT ALL. Very mixed up and discouraging. I did make it out with a sweater from Altr'd State and one from American Apparel, both under $10. If you've got time to sift and dig, this location is definitley a gold mine. Weird buying techniques but all these places can be so subjective and what I mean is that the buyer viewing your stuff can love or hate it one day and then you try again and they buy it. Honestly I never expect much from consignment stores but when I'm trying to declutter my own closet I bring a bag full of clothing and jewelry and hope for something to sell otherwise goodwill gets lucky with some nice donations and some designer clothing I don't care to wear anymore. They bought some joes jeans, some anthropology sweater, a polo hat, vintage necklace, and some other shirt and payed me $32. Not bad for stuff I would have donated or thrown out. They buy all day no need for appointment just get your name on the list and they'll give you a bin and pick up time. I've been twice to Plato's to sell some clothes now, and I'm pretty on the neutral side. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. The first time I went, I feel as though they were ripping me off for what I was trying to sell (A $40 jacket, plus two pairs of jeans for only $12), so I said no. I decided to try them again, and today wasn't too bad. I usually never buy my clothes full price anyway, so they gave me $9 for a pair of Forever21 Jeans, and 3 Forever 21 tanks. Since I bought all of those items on sale, it wasn't a big deal. I even bought two tops while I was there for a total of $19, so I really just spent about $10. Not too shabby. They do have the within 12-18 month policy as well, that they tell everyone as to why they can't buy your clothes. However, all the pieces they bought from me were bought from Forever21 in the summer and fall of 2011. (This is true because I know where every piece of clothing I bought is from, the price range, and when I paid for it. I'm not a snob, I'm just really picky about clothes) So yeah, they're either really picky, or just going for a certain "look" for the type of audience they're trying to sell to. If you're going to sell clothes here, I would only sell pieces that I know didn't cost me too much. If I bought something expensive, then I'd definitely just sell it on Ebay. Not that they don't have name brand stuff, its just if they try to as you say, "rip you off," then just sell it elsewhere and get more money. As for the clothes at the actual store, I wasn't too impressed. I am a college student, and most of the clothes do tailor towards high school, and middle school aged students like they promote, so I'd be better off at Clothes Mentor. It's a good place to buy clothes but they really do disappoint at buying your clothes. All the clothes that I took were all name brands like H&M, forever 21, hollister and yet they didn't want anything for them. They told me they had stains or missing buttons or not what they are looking to sell. Seriously! My clothes are in great condition! I doubt they even looked at my clothes! I was very disappointed! After cleaning my husband and I's closet, we had a lot of clothing to donate/ sell and room for a closet upgrade! Decided to visit this location to drop off some men and women clothing to sale. The turn around time was quick, the staff member gave me an estimate of 45 minutes- for which was accurate! Upon returning, I decided to check the store out after receiving my cash for the clothing I had sold. TIP: They will buy more men clothing than woman clothing. Surprisingly they offered me 20.00 for 6 clothing items they chose and offered more money for store credit. I decided to take the cash but still lounged around inside to look at the store, the store has a lot of good items! Majority of the clothing is trendy, with abundant woman clothing! This place is actually very nice despite many opinions on how strict they are when it comes to accepting items from people intending to sell them. I brought in about 11-12 items today (denim, pleather jackets, an assortment of tops and a pair of high heels that never fit). They ended up taking 7 of the aforementioned items for $30 and explained the reason why they couldn't accept the other things I brought in due to it being the wrong season for what items they're accepting for the summer. The women behind the counter were very nice, informative, and very patient with giving me the run-down as a first time seller at Plato's Closet. A few tips I would give to people planning to sell items to Plato's in the future would be: 1) Bring more than 4 items but less than 14 so you don't overwhelm the associates with a big tub of items. 2) They like denim and if you have any mint (or almost mint) condition Levis skinny jeans lying around Plato's will take those. They took 3 pairs of Levis skinny jeans I sold them. 3) Sadly they seem prefer smaller sizes to purchase, such as hard to find XS or 00 sizes in pants or jackets. 4) Don't be afraid to bring in men's clothes, my friend had me sell his red Levi skinny jeans and they bought them! 5) Bring celebrity brands like Jessica Simpson jeans or tops (those are a big hit for some reason and they bought them from me.) 6) Don't be afraid to bring in shoes, I brought in a pair of gorgeous buckled ankle boots that I never wore and they loved them. 7) They are very picky about seasons, and will not accept things like a heavy leather jacket, rain coats, heavy knit sweaters if it's summer or the end of spring. 8) Please don't expect them to accept EVERY name brand you bring in like Calvin Klein or the Gap because they really prefer more youthful styles like Alloy, Forever 21, and skinny form fitting ankle jeans such as the ones made by Levis or celebrity brands. Finally, the last bit of advice is if you don't sell everything or even anything please don't be too upset because the associates do try to be polite and engage the customer. I wanted to actually leave this review here today because the last review left was in 2013 and many reviews complained about associates who are probably not even working there anymore. One more thing to finally clear up is they do give you cash right there on the spot if they do decide to take your items. When you walk in they have you fill out a form with your name and then they tell you what time later that day to come back when they can tell you if they will purchase anything or not. Today they had my friend and I wait 3 hours from when we came in at 1pm and everything was ready at 4pm as they had specified when the clothes were dropped off. read more

I love this store! Staff is always attentive and nice and all have great style! I love taking my clothes to sell, I always make a little over $50, sometimes even more. The best tip I can give you is that they are a business looking to make a profit, not a charity for your clothes that have been sitting in your garage for the past 5 years. They will take the good stuff that you have had within the past two years and I truly believe they pay top dollar for everything you buy. buying is great, Selling is OK, and customer service is horrible. you can find some amaaaazing things here For an awesome deal, and they stay really current. selling is really weird there, we have odd rules about stuff and there have been times where they give me a ton of money for a crappy shirt and three dollars for a $100 dress. Doesn't bother me though, they have saved me when I desperately needed some cash quick. My major issue here is the customer service, every time I come it seems like the people working there hate their jobs, they have zero communication skills, and they talk to each other about their personal lives more than they talk to the customer standing right in front of them to pay. read more
