Lovely selection of items for sale in the store, but from my experience as a consignor, I can't…read moregive a good rating. First off, their website desperately needs to be updated to provide accurate information--they only consign by appointment and you need to call them for the appointment. This information is not on the website, nor are details such as how many items they will accept for inspection, how the items need to be presented and specific consignment guidelines (such as item conditions, labels accepted, etc). This is misleading, and their current policy has been in place for quite awhile now (based on a visit to the store over a year ago). Glad I called to verify, as I thought the "walk-in" policy was new. I gathered my items, making sure everything was clean and on hangers, and went to the shop on my appointed day. While they inspected my items, I was invited to browse the store. I noted the pricing on several items, and overall, I felt that many of the items were overpriced for what is basically an upscale thrift shop. The upside is that I only waited a relatively short time to see what they would accept. Out of 23 items, they accepted 6. And two of these items were mid-level designer handbags in very good condition. I was offered what I felt was an insultingly low amount of money for the items, or store credit. They offered some rationale, some of which was fair, but much, from my view (such as the condition of the bags) was not. Bottom line, they want items in new or pristine condition. However, while browsing, I saw things that clearly were not in that state. In the end, I know I could have walked out without leaving the items, but I opted to accept the offer, not because I felt it was fair, but mainly due to personal logistics (downsizing). Given the pricing I saw on what was for sale, I kind of felt ripped off and taken advantage of. I'm not new to consigning, but I thought I'd try someplace different this time around. From my experience, there are other shops in the area that are easier to deal with (in as much as communicating their consignment policies) and offer a better return to sellers on their items. Note to the management: Please consider those who patronize and consign to your shop and update your website (it's really not that hard to do) OR honor the walk-in policy that is currently posted.

She also said that she wouldn't accept summer clothes, just fall/winter. I went home and went through my closets. I retired recently from a new home sales position and have dresses, skirts, and pants that I knew I would no longer wear. I just went back and waited while the owner helped another person. While waiting, I saw and bought a pendant. The owner then came out, said she had gone through all of my clothes and would only accept a couple of items. She told me that my clothes were "not what her clientele were looking for". I paid more for the pendant than I got for the few items she accepted.

I stopped by a few days ago to check out their new store. It's significantly bigger than Nana's Attic, which means it feels far less cramped. Yay! Still very good prices, the "yellow tag" items are consignment and generally higher priced than the store's donated stock. It about killed my soul to see an awesome vintage salt & pepper mixed in with newer dishes in a consignment lot. Aaah! Staff are great, the store is clean and bright. I'll definitely be back. I have been a customer at this store since it was called Nana's Attic. Today I was there, looking for furniture. The selection was a bit overpriced for the quality. Suddenly, I needed to use the restroom. The woman working informed me that they did not have a public restroom and that I could go to the Dollar Tree next door. The Dollar Tree did not have a usable restroom. I returned to thrift and thrive because, quite frankly, I was literally about to pee myself. I begged to use the employee bathroom. The employees lied to my face and said that there was no bathroom in the entire store. Yeah right, if that's true, then that's a worker's rights violation, and they would not be in business. I explained that I was having an emergency and they did not care. It really stinks to be a loyal patron of a store, then to be treated so poorly in return. Particularly during a vulnerable moment. There are plenty of better thrift stores in the area with better prices AND customer bathrooms. It's a shame that a store that has such a great mission doesn't provide a great shopping experience.

The feminine mystique is a mystery to me. So I met this girl in the mens bathroom of a train station...long story...but i knew when I saw her on the floor covered in what I thought was her vomit...but turns out to be someone else's...this girl is special. Very special. For our one week anniversary I decided to do something special...she hated it and unfortunately you can't return used items to that kind of store. Our one month anniversary she was stricken with trichinosis from my romantic dinner I prepared... ...for Christmas I decided that I would not fail. So I was collecting cans on the side of the road when someone drove by and threw an old toaster at me and hit me right in the head. When I came through I stood up and saw "Accent on Design." I went in and I was impressed by the selection of new and gently worn clothing, mostly gently worn, and their amazing selection of vintage costume jewelery. I bought a pair of earrings and a necklace for my special lady. Something that was beautiful, affordable, original, and not easily pawned to buy cans of keyboard cleaner...another long story. She loved the pieces and was very happy to know that this wasn't just some mass produced pieces that anyone can get at a department store. I have even been back for another set of earrings. The ladies who work at the store are great! They give good advice, they are very helpful and really make you want to come back. The only loss of a star is that I would like to see more jewelery and accessories. Great selection of clothes, but not enough accessories.

You could pass it by everyday and never stop in. (I know I have). They have a lot of vintage stuff and cool knick knacks. They must get a lot of stuff from people who are downsizing as they are associated and benefit Surrey for Seniors. I go there to consign stuff mostly, but I always seem to purchase something that catches my eye as I'm walking towards the back of the store with my boxes. This time it was a sterling silver pendant with a floral design, perfect gift for a woman from my garden club. If you are into vintage jewelry/pins you should try to stop by if in the area....they have a whole selection stuck into a mannequin and very reasonably priced. I like consigning there because the items do move quickly and things are kept in good condition. Not like some other consignment or even donation stores where they throw your items around. Just sayin. Ask for Liz Farina if you're thinking of consigning. They have a $20 annual fee (new to me) and you get 60%-sales start after 30 days. Smile. Just happen to have the info sheet in front of me on my desk before filing.

I find they mostly have a price SET for certain items and it doesn't necessarily matter if they come from high end stores or run of the mill ones. Also you get a percentage based on that set price.............30% 40%. And when you get your check when the contract is finished it really is a small pittance, but if you do it regularly it adds up. I'm quite surprised at some of the clothing brands they do take cause some come from TJ Maxx which is in the same shopping center, some come from ummmmm Kohl's or Boscov's.............but hey if it's your style than go for it. And they do have some nice shoes and purses. I suppose the people who have high end name brand make out the best cause the percentage is higher. As we live in different cities, we decided to find a meeting point half way so that I could help her try on some dresses and give my input in real time. Another friend of mine recommended Van Cleve as she had actually found her dress there last summer. We knew that they had the dress there that she had so far narrowed it down to and we thought it would be a great way to try it back on and make sure she loved it the most. Shelley was the perfect sales consultant for what my friend needed! She had a great read of her personality type and style from the moment we met and was just firm enough without being pushy (which I thought would be all left up to me so I appreciated it!). My friend actually did not plan on purchasing a dress that day, wanting to sleep on it, but ended up saying yes to the dress! Shelley walked us through the showroom and pulled some great options, after trying on a few my friend put on the dress she loved at the past salon and kept saying she absolutely loved it (especially with the overskirt that Shelley had pulled to try on with it). Shelley was so great at asking what she loved about it that she actually realized that there was a dress that would be a better fit to her body and a higher quality material who's designer would be able to make the customizations needed to incorporate every detail of the first dress that she loved. We were so happy with the final results and it was the first dress that had the bridal party/bride/MOB all in agreement that it was absolutely perfect. So thankful for Shelley's expertise!
