Don't even bother bring stuff in to sell if you don't look like their target demographic. On multiple occasions (and then happened to myself today), they didn't buy because of silly reasons. One lady (middle age) had some nice sneakers on top of her bag and they told her that her items didn't fit their demographic. I went in this morning and was told my items were out of season (when right on top I had a cute plus size sweater and Anthropologie jeans). Everything in the store is outdated for the most part anyway. They make you wait in store while they pretend to go through your stuff in the hopes of getting you to buy from them. read more

Yeah, I'm not convinced that they actually are donating what they can not buy off of you. I brought in high-quality lucky, true religion, good branded names, and none of them was brought. I should had taken it and donated myself because I don't trust they won't actually put it on the rack for a couple of bucks. I had traveled here on Saturday also worth mentioning it was a 50 minute drive to sell some things and potentially shop usually when I go to Plato's, I end up trading and spending more than what I had sold, which is totally fine. to my displeasure, I arrived and saw a paper sign on the door saying they were no longer taken by after 5 PM and when I walked in, I asked the associate about it and she explained they were out of cash kind of unacceptable for a business like this, especially when their primary function is to purchase. She kindly told me that they would be in a better spot the next day however I had plans and was not going to take another drive immediately after. Fast-forward to today I took another drive out because I had saw some things I liked over the weekend and figured I could do a trade. My buy was processed in less than five minutes of me being in the store and they did not take anything. I wish there was a better process in regard to the things they purchased so you don't waste people's time. Also it didn't even seem like she sorted through my things because when I walked in, she had mentioned that her food was waiting for her at a local shop nearby. I will not be traveling to this location again based on the amount of time that I've wasted in a matter of days. read more

I came in with two bags of clothes to try to sell some items. They said it would be about 10 minutes and I never got a text so I went in to check after about 30 I'd say, and the girl working said that they weren't taking anything as well as that she didn't have time to look through it all and she said that she assumed they were things out of style or things that wouldn't work. I would be okay if they actually took time to consider each item I brought and then didn't take anything, but the fact that they didn't even look through it all and had the time to (and it wasn't even that much), and THEN assumed without even knowing for sure that they were things outdated is wild to me... read more

Okay I have been shopping and selling since this location opened years ago but that is stopping now and I will tell you why: Brought my two shopping bags in of clothes from high school and college (I'm 24) per the post-COVID opening guidelines. The girls took it and told me in 10-15 minutes they would have it sorted. It took them about that time but the experience waiting sucked. I was hot wearing my mask and meandering the aisles to browse (I can't buy anything- WAY too many clothes at the moment). I didn't want to be near them because I didn't want to hear them judging my stuff but I still heard some of it and I kind of wish I hadn't. I know my clothes aren't all trendy and perfect and I have sold with Plato's before so I know most of my stuff doesn't get taken but it was annoying to hear. Top that off with them taking breaks to text or show each other stuff on their phones or actually doing work tasks (opening dressing rooms, hanging clothes), and I was literally hot and bothered. Out of my two bags they took three items; again, I was expecting that but it still sucks- you hope for better. The discomfort I felt from my stupid mask and waiting on a crew laissez faire of Gen Z teens to help me made the $10.40 I cashed out with so not worth it. Stop by Goodwill to pick up the Top Shop items I still have to get rid of. The consolation to this experience was the sweatpants they took of mine had a hole in them ;) read more

Seems like they treat customers that look like them better which isn't much. Also the price they give you for stuff that's barely worn or even NWT is ridiculous. I've been to this Plato's Closet twice and so far, so good! Each time I visited this location, it was on a Saturday. The first time, it was super busy and crowded. A lot of people (mostly customers) didn't follow the arrows on the ground, but everyone did a decent job of being spaced out and keeping their distance. The second time there was only a handful of shoppers, so this wasn't an issue. Like most clothing stores and Plato's, the store is about 85% women's clothing and 15% men's clothing. They have a decent range of brands, styles, sizes, etc. Shopping can be a little tiring (for me at least) just because there's so many items to look at and they even have items on racks outside. But both times, my boyfriend and I were able to pick up items for ourselves - but I know shopping at resale/secondhand stores can be a hit or miss. The staff is super friendly and even walk around the store and offer to hold items for you at the front! This location also offers coupons/discounts if you follow them on Instagram or Snapchat. I personally have no experience with selling here, but for those interested in selling, they have little cards of items they are looking to purchase. read more

it was seriously wasting my time by bringing bags of my cloth in. The manager, not sure about her name, a tall white girl was not that polite. I had some junks, also had some basically new cloth with tags such as North face, free people, and anthropologies. They accepted none of them. It is not about the cloth that they do not accept, it is also about the cold look on her face. the staffs I experienced seemed cold and annoyed when I even talked to them. Is it just me or does this place smell? Many years ago we had some positive experiences here- finding great clothes in great condition. Now it seems the racks are full of clothes with holes, BO stains and too much wear and tear. If you are looking for a pilled sweater with a hole in the armpit this is the place for you! My daughters have tried selling new without tags clothes from Anthropologie, Free People and American Eagle and were told they weren't acceptable. All these items sold within a week on Poshmark. The store was busy so I browsed the store while waiting. about 15 mins later, I saw they start to pull things out of my bag. 2 mins later, they called my name....i had items purchased last year from name brands and still had tags on, but they didn't take any of that...also, i thought they were supposed to ask for my ID when I checked in but they didn't, which was weird...what's even odd was when I got home, I realized I was missing a crop top...I should've have checked before I left but they were all clothes I decluttered so I didn't bother...nevertheless, I think they should be more careful...I would not go back read more

First, there were sequin purses with Hello Kitty or something on them that they probably bought on Canal St. and marked up 10,000%. Why, I do not know. There are about 9 colleges within 5 miles of this location yet they waste their time on 12-year-olds. Anyway, without realizing what this place was, I went to this location to sell some items (everywhere from Burberry to Gap) and the franchise manager woman I encountered here was atrocious. She was a mid-life crisis Housewife-wannabe mess! She was dressed younger than she could pull off with her visible wrinkles, bad-dye-job hair, and Theresa Guidice make-up. She went through about $4000 in clothes I had, and passed on everything but like 2 items. I was really stunned because I saw Target-type crap on the racks closest to me as I waited, and yet she passed on worn-once or new with tags stuff from BCBG, Bebe, Patagonia, Banana Rep, Ann Taylor 100% cashmere, and some couture names from Neimans. First, as many have mentioned, it is totally tween-city here; so trendy it was laughable. The better fashion mags teach you to keep in style, but not be a trendy clown, yet it appears that this Plato's is preying on local youth whose bourgeois parents don't know how to guide them into upscale taste. This Plato's was like a store for lame fashion mags who teach awkward teens how to mimic the look they are being paid to sell by trashy mall stores. The people who actually do that are those who don't understand that replicating a magazine outfit is like copying a catalog to furnish your home. Anyway, the tanned nightmare woman basically shamed me for not bringing her trendy low-quality crap, and then offered an insulting price on the two items she did want ($4 total). So I gave her the look she had earned, gathered my things, and left. I will not be back ever. I don't buy trendy clothes, and when I have kids that age they will not be buying trendy clothes either. I also don't patronize shops run by wrinkled barbies who mentally never left high school. Try an attitude improvement and some gratitude when you've just wasted an hour of someone's time. Just walked out of this place. I should have read the reviews of this place before driving here! First of all, I brought my boyfriends NEW Clothes! And Sneakers never worn!!! He purchased them early this year but he never used them. Brands : Cole Haan shoes, and J Crew sweaters and shirts. Some stuff like pants were bought in Marshalls still with tags , so I knew they were going to pay less for those items. But for the clothes and brands before mentioned. They offered me $29.00 Dls lol To be honest , it was shocking and decided to not drop my stuff for a couple of reasons: 1) as i walked around, the clothes and shoes they had were expensive for the condition they were , used , felty and old! Mine was in NEW condition and were much better brands than "h&m" used stuff they had 2) It is such a ripoff for them to offer $29 Dls for 4 new never worn items, to then sell them for much more $ Dls per item. 3) if it's a thrift store , I would expect, fine they buy cheap, but they sell cheap to help other people... well no! They had awful dirty and ooooold for some to meantion, yoga pants (old old and color was vanishing) for $45 Dls - a top for $35 and a old old and seemed dirty jacket for $40 Dls I mean if you go to the mall you can buy new clean jackets for maybe little more than 40 but they are new!!! Yoga pants, go to marshals and they have them newww for $19 Dls 4) I much rather give away the clothes for free to people who needs them or to the Salvation Army, than let this criminal place to pay nothing to then sell them for more than what they pay for all. This is not a thrift store, is a very unethical store. As a bonus , I will agree that the staff was rude, specially the skinny tall old lady that seems to be the manager. They open the bag and took out the new sweater to inspect it, (understandable), but when they gave it back to me since I didn't sell them anything, they gave me everything all tangled up and the sweater with no bag , cuz they trash it lol- I mean, a little of respect I would expect!!! This is definitely a much more upscale Plato's closet. There are some great finds at this store. Lots of designer labels, including lots of Lilly Pulitzer. Store is well organized and it is easy to find what you are looking for. If you are looking.for something in particular, just ask. The staff will know. Show selection is ok. They have plenty to choose from but most are not in great condition. There is even a men's section but it is small. If this store is out of the way, male the trip, you won't be disappointed. I was SO excited to come to Platos today and sell some clothes. I drove all the way here yesterday to find out it was closed for Memorial Day weekend...when most stores are open that day. So I decided to come back today. It took about 10 minutes me of me standing there with my big bag of clothes before somebody even assisted me. I gave them the clothes and walked through the store looking at all the dingy items they're trying to sell. Seriously everything was worn down or outdated. The "trends" they have posted up are not trending or cute. "The designer brands" are basically Lulu items that are 5 + years old. Also, SO many old, dirty, worn in running sneakers...gross. Anyways, they didn't take ONE item of mine. It's all Urban, Free People, PacSun, and Forever 21. I had multiple pairs of shorts and dresses (from last summer) that no longer fit and still didn't make their cut. The thing that really frustrated me was the young High school looking boy rummaging through my clothes on the main counter. He looked at his phone more than he looked at the clothes. It took way less than 5 minutes for him to go through everything (I had ALOT). He basically threw it back into the bag, didn't fold a thing, and said to his other employee "none of it". How unprofessional and rude. It looks like the place is being run by high school students and is incredibly unprofessional and unorganized. Don't you think they should go through the bag in the BACK of the store? Not throwing my clothes around while I watch you do it. I really do not appreciate some shaggy long hair skater boy rudely and unprofessional throwing my items. Honestly, how is some high school boy going to recognize expensive Nordstrom brands and styles? I would LOVE to know the criteria for accepting clothes and which employees are able to do so. This is my go to for EVERYTHING. I've been shopping here for 10 years and every time I go, I find something designer, new w/ tags, amazing piece for only $15. I live in NYC and am in LA frequently for work, but I honestly save my shopping for Plato's closet in Paoli. Great Anthro/Free People/BDG/J Crew/Lu lu finds. I've sold here, too. They normally don't take many of my items which is fine bc they're careful to only buy what's in trend and in great condition. So I'm glad they're choosey. Bad reviews I've read are surprising. I'd say absolutely go. All of my friends whom I've taken to Plato's are instantly converted. Hard to shop anywhere else with such ridiculously low prices and awesome brands! Love! read more

I first want to say that I am SOO disappointed. I had such a great experience with this location a few months ago. The employees were so sweet and helpful and thorough going through my clothing. Today, an older woman was working the clothing sorting and I assume she was a manager position since she was educating (that's a nice way to put it) the younger employees at the register. This woman was so incredibly rude. She simply rifled through my bags barely looking at anything and was saying such condescending remarks while I was standing RIGHT THERE. She didn't even look through my last bag, just unzipped it and went "nah". Then once she finished "going through" my clothes, she didn't even bother putting them back in the bag. Just left them spilling out. When I went to check out with the 4 items they would purchase, the lady said that my things were really old. I advised her that all of my clothes were from the last year, some never worn. She continued with some BS excuse but I couldn't care to listen and couldn't even hide my aggravation. On top of my experience, I also witnessed her being rude to the younger employees as well. While I was putting my clothing back into their bags, I saw her go over to the girl that was marking up my clothes. Apparently the younger employee listed something as a sweater instead of a top (it was a thinner, fluffy turtleneck so I would have made the same mistake). The rude lady corrected her, the younger girl apologized and the rude lady continued to say passive aggressive remarks to another employee such as "didn't we go over the whole sweaters vs tops thing?... they're still not getting it" while the girl was standing there. You could tell the girl was stressed because she couldn't even hear the customer talking to her. I felt so bad for her. It may seem insignificant, but I know bullying in a workplace when I see it. And with the way this woman treated me, I just had to say something on here. Again, I had SUCH a great experience before. This woman just ruined it for me. You know, this place has kind of gotten a bad rap, and I can understand, because the customer service at Plato's closet (this one and other ones) can be hit or miss - usually miss, to be honest. And since I'm getting a little older, I was a little hesitant to come back here since their target demographic is tweens and teenagers, but I've always found nice things at this Plato's and hey, it's just another thrifting opportunity. So I came in, kind of bracing myself for bad/rude service, but the girls and women working there now were friendly and gracious and offered help. I was glad they were friendly, because I tried on A LOT of things. I combed through the entire store. It took about 2 hours and I found a bunch of nice pieces. I was surprised by the breadth of clothing brands. While of course there was a lot of stuff from places like American Eagle, Wet Seal, and Forever 21, there was stuff for the older crowd too like Express, Ann Taylor and *shudders* Talbots. Although, the clothes aren't quite as cheap as I remember them being. Most tops I bought were $8 to $12 dollars, but then again, I was mostly trying on things from the brand sections. Thankfully they separate new clothes by certain brands so I can easily avoid the Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and Forever 21 and go straight for J Crew, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and Free People. I refuse to shop at J Crew, and to a lesser degree Anthropologie and Free People because of their ridiculous prices (sorry Free People: no fringe tank top is worth over 80 dollars), but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate their clothes. J Crew T-shirt for $11? Yes please! So, by the end of my shopping trip, I had a huge haul that has nicely updated my wardrobe without destroying my wallet. There's a lot of good stuff in this Plato's Closet if you look, even if you're in your early/mid twenties. I'll definitely come by again. read more

Sadly nothing here has changed much, if anything it's gotten worse. They're really picky about clothing at this location so I usually only take stuff NWT here & take my used stuff to exton who will just take quality over just a fresh price tag. My problem with this location is the employees are rude, unprofessional and most of them look about 16-20 years old. They have loud, unprofessional conversations at the register and the store can be packed with customers.... Glad to know this place only took a dress here for $2.00 that was just going to an employee. This Plato's closet doesn't even compare to the one in Exton! The Exton one will actually remember who you are after 15 minutes. They have a better system with touch screens and text messages (to inform you if you are the next seller and when they are done sorting.) I drove to the Exton Plato's closet right after going to the Paoli one. I got offered $17.00 for things they rejected at Paoli. At least they explained why they didn't take my dresses. The parking lot alone is a death sentence to enter and half their clothing is outdated at Paoli. Go to the Exton location, they have a bigger selection and better service. read more

I frankly don't understand why, there's no need to treat customers like your better then them when they are the ones who are giving you clothes to sell and buying them. Being an employee of a store that is raved about for its customer service I tend to have a short fuse for those who don't give it. Very cheap worn looking clothing, nothing good to buy here. Unless you are into purchasing used Forever 21 and Target clothing for the same price you would pay brand new in the store. As other reviewers have pointed out, they only like to do buyouts of cheap teenage (13-16 year olds)style clothing. If you have brand name designer items and try to sale to them they will decline. They will also decline your whole lot of clothing if you have one crappy piece of clothing mixed in by mistake with the good pile you try to sale. Dont waste your time here, this is really goodwill level merchandise this store has to offer. I can see why the Springfield, Pa. location closed shortly after opening. This thrift store only wants to cater to a certain demographic. This is very evident in the clothing they offer to sale, the attitudes and appearance of the cashiers, as well as there buying behaviors. With this closed mind-set I dont see them surviving much longer or expanding the business any further. read more

Platos closet USED to be a great place to sell the clothes you didn't wear anymore and be able to find new clothes in great condition! Now, you go through the isles and every piece of clothing they have looks disgusting and 10 years old. I will bring in things in great condition to sell that I have only worn once or maybe never at all and they will not be taken. Do you ever go to a store try on 5 pairs of jeans only to be forced to except this specific brand just isn't going to make your tush look fabulous? When you see someone walk by in Diesel jeans do you contemplate not paying your heating bill to buy a pair (I do...)? Well, I spotted amazing stuff at Plato's Closet today. I tried on tons of jeans and while the majority weren't quite right, I did find the perfect pair. I attribute this mostly to large variety of brands Plato's Closet carries. Speaking of these jeans, they still had the original tags on them and cost 10 bucks! As for the brands, I spotted some Diesels, Seven's, and some other high end brands too. I also bought a jacket (that still had it's tags too) for 8 bucks. I also left with an amazing shirt for $12 that usually retails in the 100+ bracket! Woot Woot. The only con was how busy it was but the service was good and one of the staff let my friend and I use the bathroom/make-shift dressing room which was huge. We were able to use it to try on at least two dozen items each. The hardest part was deciding what to leave behind and what to buy. read more
