I walk up to the door to see a sign that says "paused buying" because they have too much stuff. that's fine, but why can't you take the five minutes to update your socials?? read more

They were incredibly picky. I brought in a big bag of nice, name brand things (American Eagle, Urban Outfitters, etc) and they took nothing. I won't bother trying to sell here again. My daughter and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE shopping at Plato's Closet in Cedar Rapids. They have all sorts of discounted clothing and shoes. I got great deals on some shoes and on a hat I bought there. My daughter bought a dress for herself just the other day from there that had been discounted to $0.80. We go to Plato's Closet a good amount and have never had a bad experience there. I go to platos almost every week. The employees know be my name and are always so nice to me. I take a few bags of clothes there about once a month. Sometimes they pass on some good stuff but usually because it has wear and tear or they're over stocked. Regardless, I've never gotten less than $50. I also love their point system. Since I'm a frequent shopper, I get a point every time I spend a dollar and when I sell stuff to them and it racks up $5, $10 and 20% off coupons pretty fast. I just shopped at Plato's Closet for the first and last time. I had some items for sale that had been purchased seven months ago from the Buckle and ModCloth.com. Most of my pieces were only worn one or two times. I also included BKE brand jewlery. Now I understand that in not in their teen to young adult demographic, but they treated me as if I was some kind of old world leper from the moment I stepped into the shop. They pawed through my bag, tossing through my items as If it was coated in filth. I had a hard time getting a dressing room, and some girls were too busy talking to one another to come to the register. The girl that took my items said the jewlery was too tangled up to look at and the clothes were too old. They said it was more than a year out of season. I checked both websites and both items are still featured. It took me less than 30 seconds to untangle the jewlery. I just feel that their consideration to potential cosigners was poor to the point of being lackluster. I took my items to Stuff ETC instead, and was much happier with how they treated me as well as my items. read more

When I think of a consignment store with used clothes I think of goodwill that never really has the up to date style for cheap that I am looking for. My friend, her sister, and I all went and I have to say I was impressed good clothes that I fell in love with so cheap. The staff was amazing and made sure them and there customers had a mask on along with being super nice and welcoming. I've shopped at just a few Plato's locations and this one is great. The variety really is outstanding; all of the time. Primarily women's clothing. Prices are fair and I've always gotten great deals on my clothing when I've sold here. Quality of the merchandise has to be resalable, so they take their time inspecting each item of clothing they buy. I've never had any problems with clothing I've purchased here and many, many things are in 'like new' condition. If you're really lucky you can still find tags on some things. :) Staff is very friendly. If you have a few hours to kill and you're willing to search for that certain something-don't pass up Plato's! They do sell accessories, books, DVDs, etc. Many accessories are brand new. I always checked out the men's section when I was here, too. Not sure if they still have one or not though. Worth the trip! read more

The last time I took them two tubs of clothing all namebrand all pretty expensive everything like new. I should have written down everything I took in for my own record, because they gave me $160 and they kept almost everything. I left there disgusted trying to think what all I had in my tubs and then I realized I had probably over 15 pairs of miss me and rock revival jeans and I was sick to my stomach (this happened probably little over five years ago). So I decided to give them another shot and I just wanted enough respect to offer me a decent price I wasn't expecting them to give me full price or even half price so I wrote everything down typed up a list so that I had kind of an idea of where I wanted to be and what I had for my knowledge so that when they gave me the offer this time, I would be prepared. All the items in my tub were purchased within the last year with the exception of 4 pairs of jeans. Some still had tags on them all purchased from the Buckle and online boutiques, there were over 24 pairs in various sizes. When I received my text that they had decided which items they wanted to purchase and what I needed to pick up, I went back and they gave me my container which had almost everything in it just thrown in there even though I had it all nicely folded. Then they brought their tub up which had five pairs of rock revival jeans, a brand new denim skirt, and a brand new pair of Kancan jeans and they offered me $35...wth!?! I asked her if she was joking and she said no that they just have a huge surplus of clothes right now and that's all they could offer me. You know they would be charging more than $35 for one pair of rock revival jeans, especially the pair of new with tags!!! I looked at the clothes in that store and there is nothing there that is impressive and the things that are name-brand do not look like they're in good shape. This place is a joke and a rip off. $35! I wanted to tell the woman off so bad, I felt incredibly disrespected and you would have to think I am an idiot to accept that! I am not that kind of person that gets upset easily, but I don't even know how the girl working even kept a straight face when she told me the offer! Needless to say I took all my stuff and left! As someone who has worked in retail, if I could give a 0 I would. Went in, and they gave a whole bag of my stuff to another person. Very unprofessional and the manager on duty was very disrespectful with the whole situation that occurred between us. I feel bad for the employees that have to work with her because she seems like a pain to work with. So I came to Plato's with two big garbage bags full of new name brand clothes. The workers were fully aware that my clothes were in garbage bags, which if they're in garbage bags obviously they're not gonna be folded because they would come unfolded in there anyway so it would have been nice if they had told me everything needed to be folded before hand or it would have been nice to get a text or something saying they needed to be folded so I didn't have to waste three hours for nothing because the clothes weren't folded. Great options, quality, & prices on clothes. Shopping at Plato's for many years. However, service is very bad. The employees are just teenagers & young adults who care more about talking to each other than working or helping the customers. Also don't expect for them to take the clothes you take in. They wouldn't know what is the many current styles today even if they most up to date advertisement was in their face. read more

They don't take my clothes very often. I gave them a box of clothes and they returned pretty much all of it. Which I get, but the clothes that I usually see in there weren't all that much better than mine! Some have stains or fit really weird. But prices are amazing and they have generally new, top brand clothes! read more

Ive shopped at this store multiple times, very known there. Went to sell clothes to them that I just washed and bought(not even 6mo old) and they said my clothes were dirty and more than 2+ years old. I will NEVER ever shop here or try to sell them clothes again. read more

This store is not consignment. You can actually get cash the same day. Where else do you have such an opportunity? Just ask them what they need and wash and check your items. It's an amazing store. read more

I previously took a couple bags of clothes to the coralville location and they only took a couple things..today I took the rest of those bags to this location and they took two out of my three bags! So I have shopped at that Plato's many times and this was the very last. I was with a friend of mine and from the moment we walked in we were ignored. After shopping around we were ready to try on and went up and asked, she gave us each our rooms and once we were inside starting to change asked if we had 6 items so my friend said we did even though we had one or two more. The entire time we were trying things on and showing each other there were several employees standing around the area watching us and making us feel uncomfortable. After we finished trying on we handed what we didn't want to the lady by the rack and before we could even get 10 steps away I could hear her say loudly "they had more than 6 items!" And she practically ran into the room I was in (I could hear the door being thrown open). I have never stolen anything in my life and in that experience felt like a complete criminal, I will not be going back to that location ever again and do not recommend it. read more

I WAS a loyal customer to this store in the Cedar Rapids location for 6 months. In the beginning everything about the store was awesome including the sales ladies. They were accepting a lot of name brand, but for some reason they have been very picky about what and who they buy from. I will never shop in this stores location and I would not recommend to any one. I find that they have another linked store called Style Encore one of the best consignment stores in excellent rating from their clothes, accessories and hand bags. Not to mention everything is in very reasonable prices. They also give reasonable money for your items and they accept ALL BRANDS ALL SEASON EVERYDAY. i am a trendy person and always bring them stuff that is still for sale in the "mall" like they advertise... but they always reject almost all of my items.... even silver jeans that have never been worn, they offer 3 or 4 dollars... its crazy considering a good pair of silvers or sevens retails at 80 or more dollars. good store to shop at, just not a great place to get the $$ you deserve read more

I went to Plato's Closet the other day to bring clothes in and had two bags full of name brand clothes and shoes ( Clothes from Express, a dress by Guess Marciano, a Guess purse, Jessica Simpson pumps, Naughty Monkey boots and much more). The lady at the counter told me it would be 2 to 3 hours for the wait. When I came back to see what they would offer, they only gave me $19 for my clothes. I kindly accepted since I thought I could sell the rest that Plato's Closet didn't take, I could sell on eBay or craigslist. They gave me my bag back and once I got home I noticed I was missing clothes that Plato's closet didn't take that wasn't in my bag. I called them right away and the girl on the phone stated that "if there are missing clothes that the customer has forgotten they give it to Salvation Army." I told her I didn't forget them but the lady at the counter presented my bag to me but forgot some items that they didn't accept. The girl on the phone stated "there's nothing we can do. Sorry." and hung up the phone. I was so upset about the poor customer service and the girl on the phone didn't attempt to solve the matter, I decided to go in and talk to them in person. When I arrived at Plato's closet, I saw my name brand things out on the floor that they didn't take and I told them that this was my missing clothes and that I spoke to someone about this on the phone and they refuse to help me. The lady at the counter told me that there was nothing they can do since my stuff was already out on the floor. I asked how could this of happened and the lady said it doesn't because they label everything once the customer comes in with clothes. I was already so upset about the situation that I just decided to leave since I knew at that point they weren't going to do anything about it. It seems like Plato's Closet took my missing clothes and didn't let me know about it or they mixed it up with someone else's and refuse to take responsibility of the confession. Either way, I didn't care about the money or getting back the clothes since I knew I wasn't going to wear them again but I was most disturbed by how I was treated as a customer, the very poor management and how they organized things is very careless and poor. After my experience, I will not be returning and I'm going to warn everyone about the scam Plato's Closet is. read more
