It wasn't one thing but everything. The curriculum with a Christian foundation taught and surrounded by like minded students, faculty and parents tops my list. Academics are exceptional. Also important to us is the opportunity to participate in sports. Calvary has top notch sports directors/coaches and are able to provide high level athletics for the sports lovers too. Can't say what sets them apart because they don't compare to area public schools. Are your school administrators visible daily at drop off and pick up lines? Do they know your students by name? Don't hesitate checking out an open house to see what it's all about. It's served our family well. As a mom the support and friendships I've formed have been very positive. Now with that being said, the days are winding down. It's been four long challenging years, but she has made it. This is baby girl's last year of high school....Class of 2025! Am I excited? I'm not there yet, probably might get emotional when I see her get all dolled up in her cap & gown, but I'm neutral for right now. I'm more reflecting on the journey....the many sacrifices I had to make during the transitions through Elementary, Middle and High school. I am slowly letting go of the reigns. It was a Saturday morning with a chance of showers in the forecast so the first thing I noticed was the distance from the parking to the entrance with absolutely no cover along the way. On entry, I was impressed by the open feeling. It had the typical locker lined lobby and corridors but the lockers (I saw) were all in open spaces so there was no feeling of crowding. I had to imagine a gazillion kids. As I expect all schools are now (not where I attended) all seating was fixed. The auditorium was large but probably not large enough to seat the full student body with each seat having a folding desktop. I'm a small person and it did feel a bit crowded... I'm not sure it would be comfortable for a big kid. The desks in the classrooms seemed to be standard school issue with the metal frame and no chance of adjustment. I felt very confined and again, I would think is might be tight for anyone much larger than my petite frame. The building felt clean and comfortable. I did not use the restroom but did note it was located close the the classrooms we were using. For a public school this seemed ok... and if I had a school-age kid, I could see them here... assuming they have a good program.

If a school is not prepared to support and accommodate a child who may need a little more understanding, it should be honest with families from the beginning, rather than accepting a child and then turning him away when challenges arise. I hope other families learn about our experience before making their decision. Every child deserves to feel accepted, respected, and safe in the place where they go to learn.
