UPDATE JULY 2018: I ended up having a HORRIFIC experience with the IUD and with the staff here. It is almost hard to put into words what I went through/ am still going through. I will have to just sum it all up here.
So I had the IUD inserted in January (my initial review). By March, I was in such extreme pain that I had it removed. (I missed work and school, sex was excruciating, random pains 24/7, one night I just laid in bed crying and bracing myself for the next cramp that was about to come. I was taking 800mg ibuprofen 3 times a day) The "doctors" there completely disregarded by pain. They took it out, claimed the pain must be unrelated to the IUD, and told me to "wait it out." Well after a few other doctors, blood tests, pap smears, exams, and MRIs later..... I was diagnosed with PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE (from the bacteria on the IUD), TRICHOMONIASIS (that went undetected before my exam and spread from outside my cervix and into my uterus during insertion), AN OVARIAN CYST that they didn't feel during an exam, and I was told that my uterus is tilted to the left and that my IUD was inserted at the WRONG ANGLE. Also, because I took their instructions to "wait out the pain" when I should have been prescribed antibiotics ASAP for the obvious inflammation in my uterus, all my symptoms worsened over time and may have ended up doing permanent damage from the prolonged inflammation. Now I have to get a sonohysterogram to see if my fallopian tubes are working correctly. Needless to say, I will never be back to that establishment and I would not trust the 3 doctors there that consulted me during this hell of a journey.
JANUARY 2018: Contrary to other reviews, I had a good experience at this Planned Parenthood with the staff and wait time. I arrived at the time of my appointment and was greeted by a very friendly staff member who thoroughly and patiently guided me through some paperwork. After giving a urine sample- I will touch of that process later- I was almost immediately greeted by a sweet assistant that called me into my room and went through the confidential screening with me. She seemed very knowledgeable. The nurse who was inserting my IUD for me came into the room only moments later! The nurse was very chill and informative. She handled my nervousness very well. The copper IUD that I had put it was very painful- I will say that. (Maybe ask if they can numb your cervix first) I was so tense that she had to leave and get a different implant to use because she couldn't reinsert the first one- again, she was so calm and understanding.
Here is the reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5- the place seemed a little outdated and my experience giving a urine sample was entirely unsanitary. She handed me a flimsy dixie cup at the front desk and gave me directions to the bathroom- kind of awkward. In the bathroom there was an empty, dirty, old set of plastic drawers in the middle of the room that probably used to hold cups next to an open plastic trash bin of used pads. I was never given a wipe to clean with after, and there was no lid to put on the cup. But here is the worst part- when I opened up the window to place my sample in- there were 3 other open cups of other people's pee sitting there already. Eww!! Afterwards I went back to the lobby- also weird that they have you sit back in the lobby after that.
Anyways, besides the outdated-ness of the place, which I understand is very expensive to update- they could refine their check-in system a little bit. Other than that I was very pleased with my time there! read more
