Whilst I saw both over the course of my pregnancy, Dr La Follette was the one to deliver my second child, and she was energetic and enthusiastic and completely commanded the room. All the nurses at Marin General respected her, and she was just an incredible person to have in my corner! UPDATE ON MY LAST REVIEW... I missed an incoming call today…read morefrom a prosthetic company regarding a referral made back in July, which I and the company attempted to resolve. I asked my GP 2 months ago to look into, but was summarily dismissed as usual. But hey, it's my fault for bringing up the issues and being incredibly frustrated by the lack of interest in my healthcare. Looks like Medicare had to get involved for my GP to act since my conversation I brought up 2 months ago during my appointment about the issue was dismissed without a second thought. (maybe actually LISTENING TO PATIENTS AND ACTING IN THEIR BEST INTEREST EVEN WHEN BRINGING UP CONCERNS INVOLVING THE CLINIC MISHANDLING THINGS WOULD BE A BETTER WAY TO INTERACT WITH PATIENTS). Finally nearly 3 full months later, today I got the word that paperwork was finally done properly. So much for delaying care without consequences. The biggest issues here are complacency, arrogance, apathy, disregarding anything a patient says, no follow up, blaming patients for bringing up serious issues with the way the clinic is doing things, if they get done at all etc... the adage: delayed care is denied care is, spot on. I hope the efforts of myself, the other healthcare business and Medicare serves to help all the other patients to get the help they need and deserve and the quality of care gets better for all patients. As it should have been. I can not get back the last year plus if my life while I waited for my GP to get things together, it never happened. That's time I could have spent volunteering or being out and enjoying nature and life, instead I get to wait, get lied to, get blamed for being frustrated, and bringing up these serious issues, it's sickening. Literally and figuratively.

Endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures is how that happens... "But why?," I thought, "I'm not anemic anymore!" Yikes! The instructions how to prepare for this appointment did not sound fun. I arrived at Endoscopy Center of Marin the morning after drinking that purge stuff ready to get this done and out ASAP. From the moment I was greeted at the reception area, to when I woke up in recovery, the entire experience was so comfortable. Every possible question was answered before I even asked. The staff was gracious, intelligent and kind. It was obvious to me there was mutual respect among them and they liked what they were doing. If it wasn't for the preparation a colonoscopy requires beforehand this would have been a (believe it or not) thoroughly pleasent experience!

I have to give a shout out to the Medical Center of Marin due to the consistently excellent care…read moreprovided. My 12 yr old son and I recently relocated back to the Bay Area and have been utilizing MCOM as our first point of contact while we get enrolled in the UCSF system. We almost always see Vila Phoulavan PA-C whose extreme attention to detail and spot-on diagnostic skills have led to very accurate assessments, referrals to appropriate providers and generally a sense that our time was well spent as Vila always takes as much time as needed to ensure a productive visit. If one cares to read further, my recent experience with Vila and MCOM will illustrate WHY I have such high regard and took the time to post here. I sustained a fluke injury to my elbow/bursa. I quickly drove over to MCOM as the elbow swelled up immediately (looked like I had a baseball attached to it). Although it was obvious due to the swelling that it was a bursa trauma, Vila resisted my request to aspirate the elbow until " we can get an Xray and know exactly what we are dealing with". Unfortunately, MCOM's Xray technician had left for the day, so Vila recommended icing the elbow and returning in the a.m. for the Xray. I was not able to adjust my a.m. schedule so I decided to drive over to Mill Valley UCSF affiliated urgent care in the Strawberry Center as they did have an Xray technician available. Upon treating the injury, the Strawbery Urgent Care Nurse decided that an Xray was not necessary and proceeded to aspirate and wrap the elbow. During aspiration, the Nurse commented that its "odd" as she expected bursa fluid to come out, however, only blood came out. She did mention that there could be a very slight chance of the wound/ arm becoming septic and if so - Head Straight to the ER! 7 hours later, upon waking with a septic hand which was the size of a small baseball mitt, I immediately went to Marin General ER where they jacked me up on antibiotics to avoid sepsis. The ER doc said the wound should have not been aspirated as sepsis often results and it's best to leave "bursa injuries or bursitis" as was the diagnosis alone. I told both the Strawberry Urgent care nurse and the Marin general ER doc that MCOM had recommended Xrays, but yet both practitioners were adamant that this was not necessary. I went home in pain and called Marin General ER the next day to ask if I should come back in as the forearm had turned blue/bruised and filled with fluids. I was told that this is normal and as long as the arm/hand/elbow was not red or feeling hot to the touch then I just need to ride it out as Bursa injuries take a long time (1 - 2 months) to heal. I nursed the elbow, pain and swelling along for 7 weeks until landing back at MCOM to address an issue with my son. At that time I asked Vila for an Xray on the elbow as it didn't appear to be healing correctly. Sure enough, the results came back - ACUTE FRACTURE OF THE MEDIAL ASPECT OF THE RADIAL HEAD. I'm extremely frustrated at how this played out ... as one tends to use this joint/ body part often! My next trip will be to an orthopedic doc who specializes in elbows. I will likely require surgery to fix an issue that never would have transpired if the other practitioners would have gone with Vila's original assessment/advice to get a FRICKING Xray ... which wouldn't seem to be an unusual request in my book. I'll leave it up to the reader to decide who dispensed the best advice in this scenario.
