I couldn't wait to visit this neighborhood while on a trip to Paris. I love original art, and was bound and determined to find something to bring home. I would say at least half, if not more, of the artists are people that were painting/drawing portraits. But there were a dozen or more that did landscapes, still life's, and other types of paintings in a variety of mediums. I was fortunate, the artist I purchased two paintings from actually gave me a mailing tube to put my paintings in for transport back to the US. I had packed a mailing tube in my suitcase for that purpose, thinking I wouldn't get one from the artist. So I guess you never know! Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Had a great time at Place du Tertre. Waited for about two hours (45 minutes a person) for this gentleman to do our charcoal sketch. in my opinion, he was truly the best person there. Prices: €60 child € 70 student €80 adult. They are open to haggling but beware your results May vary because of it....as was my case unfortunately. We paid €140 for a charcoal sketch that will literally never come out of the protective tube (€5) because it doesn't look anything like me. This gentleman had charcoal sketch examples of people, smiling however, I believe he copied them from photos and did not do them with a live person because he had a very hard time getting my mouth/smile down. additionally, I think he's only used to doing one person at a time so my face shape and size was giant compared to my partners in the photo. So lesson learned do not smile if you get one of these done by him. Overall, it was a fun experience, but I definitely have buyers remorse. And it's not like you can tell what it's gonna look like until the very end.

This place has a special place in my heart because it brings back nostalgia from the time I visited Paris when I was a little kid with my parents 15 years ago. From the swindling men trying to put bracelets around your wrists and then demanding for money to the annoyed artists who don't like to get their pictures taken of them by tourists who aren't going to buy any of their paintings, this is where I want to visit every time I come to Paris. The second time I visited Paris was 3 years ago, and I took a picture of a man painting from afar. He never noticed. This year when I visited, my dad and I bought a painting from a man and I asked the painter if he knew the guy in my picture from three years ago. Little did I know, he was 10 feet opposite. I showed the painter who I took a picture of 3 years ago the picture I took, and he was really nice and friendly. I bought another painting from him and even took a picture with him too! He didn't speak much English, but the lady at the next stand helped translate. She's been at the stand next to him for decades!

Wonderful cafes and art shops around the square. The architecture of the cafes are all reminiscent of the 1920s, this area's glory days. What a fabulous era that was. You can imagine Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald sitting in a outside cafes talking about the War and defining this Lost Generation. Good street artists blowing bubbles and a pleasant place for kids to hang out and run around in Monmarte. We saw a model shooting a commercial so yes the art scene still lives. Do find the vehicular for the way up. Could make the kids cranky by the time they get there and they will enjoy the ride.

I wouldn't recommend this place for an English-speaking group, at least not until they fix their…read moreoutdated website. I tried going to HintHunt with some friends on a recent trip but I ran into a few obstacles that made this difficult, mostly with their online booking site: 1. The site has detailed descriptions of escape rooms, but the rooms you can actually book are different and they don't all have descriptions. 2. Some of the games are at one HintHunt location, and other ones are at a different location nearby, but the website doesn't make this clear. 3. My group only spoke English, and it's not clear whether all of the escape rooms offered on the website are available in English. I think I finally figured out that all of their games are available in English, but I'm still not sure. When you book a room online, it isn't clear whether you're booking it in English or in French. 4. I tried emailing customer support but I never received a reply. I tried going to one of the HintHunt locations to ask these questions and book it directly there, but the person there said it could only be handled through the website. HintHunt sounded like fun, but we ended up doing something else instead.

At first I was a bit hesitant as I thought with it being in Paris the clues might all be in French or the English translations might make it difficult for us to actually escape but I was wrong. The staff were excellent at explaining the concept and rules of the game. We were a group of 16 and were split in to three teams in different rooms. It was great to be able to compete against the other teams. I don't want to give away the game too much but it was a murder mystery theme and there were loads of really cool mini challenges within the rooms. I have done this sort of thing before but this seemed really well thought out. The game master was great - any time we were off the beaten track he pointed us in the right direction without completely giving everything away - top marks! After you escape or don't escape you can take pictures against a branded back drop and make use of the photo props which we had fun doing.

If Barry's Bootcamp and Tonehouse in NY had a baby, Midtown Studio would be it. Midtown Studio…read moreoffers 50 minute bootcamp style classes that incorporate a combination of interval running, strength training and functional exercises. It's similar to Barry's except the sets between exercises are shorter and you switch from the bench, floor and treadmill more frequently. I like that there's an open space/turf where you can do more exercises that utilizes open space that's separate from the bench. It definitely feels like an all over athletic conditioning class in that regard. The woodway curved treadmills are really cool in that it's entirely dynamic and driven by your resistance although there is a manual resistance knob to add on more weight. Once you get going on it, it can go really fast and feel intimidating but after the first class you get the hang of it! There's also these straps with handles attached to the treadmill that we didn't get to use but I assume they're used in more cable based exercises. The bench is stacked with different equipment, like dumbbells and kettlebells as well as battleropes and sandbags. Class size is about half of Barry's at full capacity (20-25?) The first time I took an "extreme abs" class with an instructor whose name I didn't catch. It was definitely one of those classes that went from 0 to 100 reaaal quick so if you're not as used to working out at that intensity I'd disclose it with the instructor. The second class was with Manu, the owner, and he was FANTASTIC!!! He was such an excellent coach and really tried to give attention to each individual (something you wouldn't see at Barry's). He gave clear instructions in both French and English and was extremely motivating. He's super friendly and runs a great studio! Classes aren't as frequent and tend to go more toward the later morning into the late evening. My friend and I purchased a 2/30 euro intro deal and it was well worth the money!! If you're interested in getting a sweat on in Paris or wanna make more room for crossaints, this is your place! There are showers and Rituals amenities to freshen up with after class.
