I wouldn't recommend this place at all. The service overshadowed everything and not in a good way. It started with the server, we ordered a pizza and drinks, I thought the mulled wine was too bitter so I asked for an orange wedge and she didn't want to give it to me. She eventually did but with a snarl attitude. I've never felt so hated, it was like a bad mother in law giving you the stink eye at your birthday party. I'm not a racist but I would imagine that what it would feel like when people look at you and just hate you without knowing you. They are miserable people and shouldn't be in this business. We were excited to try pizza and Prague. I wish we went to a different place. As we walked in, there was a huge metal thing blocking the door....we shoulda left then. Not only was it a hazard, it made the place feel unwelcoming. This theme continued on, our waitress was the most rude person. I wouldn't attribute it to the culture either, every other interaction we've had with the locals has been pleasant and wonderful. She apparently was ticked off by my order of Pizza and water. She rolled her eyes and seemed to talk crap to her co-worker about my order. My hubs wanted some mulled wine and she again was so scary mean when we asked for an orange wedge. It was actually the most uncomfortable dining experience and we couldn't wait to get out of there. Oh and the pizza was soggy and didn't taste good. We are from the USA and totally enjoyed the food. My son got margarita pizza- said it was the best one he has had. My husband got the gnocchi and shrimp(gnochetti gamberi), my daughter got the chicken and spinach (penne pollo) and I got the shrimp linguine (linguine delo chef gamberi). Delicious food, nice ambiance, reasonable pricing! After a couple days of exploring prague and having Czech food, it was finally time to indulge in some italian food. I was craving pasta and my friend wanted pizza so we decided to give Giovani a try. We soon found it out that it was just a few minutes walk from where we stayed. The restaurant is located in the heart of old town, in a quaint back alley. We were seated immediately in the first dining room. The decor is lovely and warm and the staff was friendly. I ordered tagliatelle a al con pesto and my friend went with sardine pizza. The food was delicious and portions were decent. The prices were reasonable as well. Let's start with the good. Pizzeria Giovanni filled me with the sense of being in a fairy tale, with its colorful walls and decor. Five stars for atmosphere alone. The service was also quick and friendly enough. On the flip side: the food. Having spent a couple of days eating meat dishes, I decided to choose mushroom risotto, which, although tasty, was hardly sufficient for a grown man. And just to confirm: risotto is a main dish (not a starter). Needless to say, the small portion left me hungry. My wife ordered a margherita pizza and let me try some. It was decent, but lacked seasoning (no basil, etc). The prices here are generally fair, but my risotto seemed to be an exception. One of the better pizzas I've had during my visit to Prague. The interior is nice, cozy, and rustic. We ordered the Fungi pizza along with the Focaccia bread. The crust on the pizza was perfect - light and airy with a crunch. The Focaccia bread is almost like a regular pizza, just with olive oil and fresh garlic on top instead of sauce, cheese, and toppings. Ordering both the pizza and the foccacia bread felt a bit redundant, but the foccacia bread would definitely be a nice compliment to a salad/pasta dish. Upon entering the restaurant, there wasn't anyone to greet me or show me to my table. I had to find a waiter in the back in order to seat myself. Things only got worse from here. The service was slow and the waiter didn't show much interest in providing quality service. The pizza was okay but nothing special. I had a mushroom pizza, which was slightly soggy and the quality of the mushrooms left something to be desired. Overall, I wouldn't expect much in regards to the service or quality of food. There must be better places for pizza in Prague. Lastly, we asked for the WiFi password and the waiter was hesitant to share. Very good place, near center of town. You can sit indoor or outdoor. Waiting time is acceptable, less then 20 minutes. It could be difficult to find free places in diner or supper time. During our vacation in Prague and looking to have a light lunch away from the craziness of Old Town Square we stumble into Pizzeria Giovanni. Even though it was couple of blocks away from Old Town square the place was not crowded and we were able to seat in a table close to the window. We ordered the Quattro formaggi Pizza which was delicious as well as a truffle pasta with shrimp. It took me back to Italy for a second. This unassuming restaurant located near old town square hides the most fantastic Italian food I've had in a long time. The staff was friendly and extremely attentive. I ordered pasta alla carbonara and was blown away by how delicious it was. The menu said the pasta was hand made and once you take your first bite, it's easy to see why handmade pasta is so much better. My wife ordered a pizza Margarita and it looked like it was cooked in a stone oven with a perfect crust. I can't wait to come here again. The best part was that my pasta came to just 185 czk or about $7.50 USD, so affordable. The pizza was even cheaper, 145 czk or $5.89 USD.
