We stopped there today and ordered a Salade Paysanne (EUR9.00) each, also a Stella Artois and a bottle Breton cider (EUR2.50 each for 25 cls). The Salad was a mountain! Loads of lettuce, lardons, crutons, walnuts, hard-boiled egg, tomatoes and tasty melon. The crutons weren't great but overall it was a fine feed with good service despite a big crowd being in.

What a lovely place !!! This restaurant is also an hotel,…read moreand the owners are really sympathic. We discovered it by hazard and attracted by all the awards hanged at the entrance. And they are largely merited. You have different menus from 23€, 33€ and much more. There is also a menu for the children even if they are not usual customers. You will meet lot of local people and foreigners clients of the hotel. We were 4 (2 adults and 2 children). The meals were excellent with a very good "foie gras" to begin. The duck (magret et confit de carnard) was excellent with a large variety of vegetables. To close our pleasure, the vanilla ice-cream with meringue and chocolate was excellent. . The meals were large, perhaps too much. We had difficulties to finish the dessert. Final price: 80€ with 2 children menu, 1 menu 16€ (no starter), A menu 33€ and 2 glasses of Monbazillac Wine The only regret I have is the lack of "foie gras poelee" in the menu. It was my dream and was not there. My wife did not appreciate the Monbazillac wine but I do not concur with her. If you go to Padirac to see the Goufre, have a lunch or a dinner in this restaurant. All is there for the pleasure of your sense including tables outside but I will recommend you to book a table in the main room with a marvellous view on the Dordogne.

We spent the late afternoon visiting the Chateau and the village down the hill. We opted for this…read morerestaurant as it had some simple and some more gourmet offerings. On balance, the food was good and of high quality. The service was reasonably fast and the waiter and staff were cordial and did not seem too put off by my somewhat mediocre French. However, when it came to getting the bill and paying it, it was very convoluted and complex. After about two weeks in France, I had come to expect very little in the way of service and really probably tipped too much at many places where we dined. To make a long story short, I asked our waiter for l'addition and he told me(in French) that I needed to go inside to get the check. The bartender who was running all of the credit cards had a really tough time finding our bill and our waiter was not much help (for identification purposes, I did not know his name but he looked like a French Drew Carrey) as he never once offered to help is colleague, choosing to allow him to struggle and eventually handed things off to the owner who was successful in finding our bill. Too bad there is not more of an emphasis on service on the part of the waiter as this never would have happened in most good restaurants in the US and this only really happened here while we were in France. Don't let this scare you. This restaurant is quite good, the owner and most of the staff were quite nice but the waiter sort of ruined the experience being so detached from helping us get and pay our bill.
