I was a bit disappointed when my friends said we were going to a pizzeria for lunch, but I had never been to Port of Sitges so I tagged along. The port is a good walk from the main part of Sitges, past Balmins Beach and up and down flights of stairs.
Pizzeria Del Puerto is not your run-of-the-mill pizzeria. I wouldn't even know it was one without their sign.
Pizzeria Del Puerto is more than a t-shirt and swimsuit pizza place. The vibe is nice casual, breezy, linen and cotton. Shorts are obviously fine, especially where we sat in the outdoor covered glass terrace. Think Mediterranean beach ambiance with tablecloths and nice place settings.
The lunch menu is pretty extensive and the six of us went with various Migdia Cap de Setmana (lunch weekends) 35€ prix-fixe menu selections.
My starter was Ostra Francesa de Claire (4 French oysters, 4€ supp), were fresh and refreshing. Other delicious starters were the Calamars a la Silvilana (fried squid), Amanida de Burrata Fresca (excellent burrata salad) and Musclos al Vapor (steamed mussels).
My Entrecôte al Grill amb Samfaina was perfectly grilled and the ratatouille style vegetables tasty.
Sorbet de Llimona was a perfect dessert for a 90°F afternoon. Carpaccio de Pinya (pineapple carpaccio) sliced wafer-thin, was also delicious, and Tiramisú was heavenly. Several bottles of wine flowed, and it turned into a 3 hour lunch.
Food service was a bit slow, and several times we had to waive the waiter down as we needed more wine and water. Maybe it's just the Spanish pacing way. We weren't in a rush.
Amazingly, not a pizza in sight. read more
