Unfortunately this year they were closed for holidays and La Piazza was recommended by a colleague. The location is nice, on a quiet pedestrian alley off the Schillerplatz; and the white clothe covered tables certainly gives it an upscale feel. The menu has traditional Italian dishes, salads, and pizzas. For starters I asked for a glass of Barbera and the young waiter told me they were out, so I asked for his recommendation and he replied "I don't drink wine so I can't help you." In my opinion a waiter should know something about their wines and if they don't they should know how to fake it. Maybe I pissed him off with my remark but when he brought my bottled water to the table and did not open it. Next I ordered the Insalata Italiano which should be served with a very mild dressing so you can taste the ingredients. This salad arrived swimming in balsamic vinegar that completely drowned everything on the plate. For my pizza I ordered the capers, olives, and anchovies - which should be sparingly added - just enough to give you a faint taste. My pizza arrived with many large anchovy slices that dominated every bite. Sadly I was not able to enjoy my salad or pizza. La Piazza is a restaurant that serves Italian food, it is not an Italian restaurant.

I have been in Germany three years and this was by far the WORST customer service we've had --…read moreEVER!! We PCS next week and my husband had this restaurant on his "return bucket list" (such a devastating shame). As a "Yelper", I mistakenly checked in at the wrong restaurant and was excited to see an advertisement written in German which stated "Gratis" [perhaps an appetizer] or €10 [perhaps off the meal]. I asked the female server if she understood what the advertisement on my phone stated and she quickly and flatly said "No" after looking at it. I thought she might not have seen it so I moved the phone closer and she changed her facial expression to show she was not happy (what a sour puss)! It wasn't a big deal so we ordered our food and watched a second family enter the restaurant. Long story short: the second family's appetizer (and dinner) was served before ours. Amusingly enough, they were also offered a complimentary Amaretto drink while paying for their food (while I don't drink, we didn't get a drink offer or a good bye). During our meal the female server glanced (and frowned) when she saw I had apple juice boxes for my small children (five and six years old). I guess she was upset that we didn't order two additional 20 oz drinks for €3 (that they fill up with ice). She was wise enough to hold her piece after the lackluster service she had already provided. What I found more disturbing was her and another male worker (presumably her husband) sitting on their cell phones at a table with their backs to us the entire time. We had to say "Excuse me" several times to get their attention when we needed something. For example, we ordered two small pizzas and they sent one to the table without cutting it. When my husband asked her to take it to the kitchen (to get cut) I had one eye on her and one eye on the chef because I wasn't feeling the love at all! I am not sure if I offended her with the Yelp advertisement but she spent the remainder of the meal with a sour disposition which was very apparent and unfortunate. Having just visited Italy in May I would have to say that the food at this restaurant was much tastier! HOWEVER, I would LOW CRAWL to Italy from Germany on the hottest day of the year before I ever dined at this restaurant again to be treated like a second class citizen (had me ready to dig deep into my Charlestonian roots and give her a history lesson on how to treat people). This staff might want to take stock of their customer service skill sets which might help them determine why they had two families in their restaurant on a Friday. I also work in customer service and to get through the day you sometimes have to give your customers the benefit of the doubt (even if they are wrong -- I checked in at the wrong restaurant). HOWEVER, she could have simply stated that after seeing the advertisement with the restaurant's name on top! I know how to say goodbye in several different languages but the only thing I have to say for this restaurant (and that server) is "GIRL BYEEEE"! Needless to say they got a €0 TIP!!

This was my first Italian restaurant experience in Germany and how it did NOT disappoint!…read more We needed a spot that was open late at night without reservation on Friday, since my husband didn't get off work until 9PM. This is actually pretty difficult to find for a non-pub, but Bistrorante Da Adriana is a full service restaurant that opens late (11 PM) and had very comfortable dining. Their ambiance is that of a casual-upscale versus rustic Italian, but you can most certainly come in with casual attire. The hostess was super friendly and lit candles at the table for the mood while we peruse their HUGE menu of fresh pastas, salads, pizzas, and drinks. I ordered the classic carbonara with spaghetti pasta, husband ordered the salmone with spaghetti pasta, and we shared a tartufo Italian ice cream. I love ordering classics as my way of testing restaurant's ability to make staples and chef did not disappoint! The prosciutto was generous and you can clearly taste the parmesan and egg yolks. But my husband's salmon pasta was exquisite, I was SO JEALOUS of his pasta. The sauce was flavor packed and rich with salmon flavor without being overly fishy. You can sense the small bits of salmon without it being texturally chunky. And the tartufo ice cream was a perfect finish to the evening, perfectly sweet cold and presented beautifully on a platter. All this food for LESS than 40 Euro with two non-alcoholic drinks. Extremely affordable, especially considering the portion quality and service. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who has dietary concerns (HUGE selection of vegetarian options), need comfortable seating/non-smoking (I'm pregnant so this was PERFECT for me), large parties, and a late-night spot in the heart of Kaiserslautern. This little unknown spot definitely checks all those boxes and we will definitely come back here.
