Our waiter spoke fine English and that part of the meal went well, but engaging him to get our order placed was a bit challenging. Yes, they have a printed menu. It's in German. There's also a list of daily specials on the board, written in German that we could sort of read. Google Translate doesn't work well when you can't work out what the letters are. And then, there's another list of specials that the waiter has in his head, which is... interesting. I let him talk me into a mushroom salad starter which was unusual and quite delicious. A variety of grilled mushrooms, shaved parmesan and cherry tomatoes. Enough for two to share. For main course, I chose the spaghetti vongole. Very good, a plate of pasta tossed in olive oil and garlic and then topped with cherry tomatoes, clams, shrimp and other seafood. Other than the pasta was perhaps a little underdone (or my taste for it is off?), it was delicious and I ate nearly the whole thing. Keto? Not today! My friend had the pappardelle with a beef and veal sauce. She said it was delicious but pointed out that there was no parmesan cheese to be had anywhere. And once she pointed that out, it was strange. Our waiter wasn't to be seen after the food was delivered so after waiting a bit, we decided to dig in. By the time we spotted him, there wasn't much point. So what could have been a five star meal dropped to just three because the pasta was underdone (in my opinion) and the lack of service which just left us underwhelmed. Three of my traveling mates and I sat down at a table on the outdoor patio to eat at this restaurant. Everyone ordered drinks and one of our four decided that he would rather get a dish from another restaurant. This area has about 10-15 restaurants all together, each with an outdoor patio. Our "outsider", lets call him Andy, ordered his food and then sat back down to enjoy his drink and our conversation. The other restaurant actually delivered his meal, in a take-out container, to our table at the Italian restaurant. All of our meals arrived and our Andy opened up his meal to eat with us. Within one minute, the owner of the restaurant came outside and started to scream at Andy with wonderful Italian hand gestures to go along with the loud voice. It was apparent that he didn't want Andy eating someone else's food at a table in his restaurant. Now, what I object to is not that he was upset about someone eating another restaurants food at one of his tables, it is that he had the opportunity to communicate his concerns in a civil manner. A simple "I am sorry, but this area has a policy where food must be eaten at the restaurant it is ordered at and you will either need to put the food away or take it outside the patio". If that is what happened, we would have been fine. I am glad that the owner didn't have a gun available because it felt like if he did have it, he would have pointed it at Andy. So, what did we do, Andy picked up and sat down at the public fountain that is literally 5 feet away from the tables and ate his meal. If you look thru the pictures for this restaurant you will see one with the outdoor patio tables and you will see the public fountain. After he ate, he came back to the table to finish his drink. Ok, I need at least one comment about the food...we ordered 2 pizza's and a pasta dish. We had just come from Naples, Italy, so the pizza simply didn't live up to anything more than average. The pasta dish was pretty good. All in all...no reason to ever go back after a missed opportunity for better service from the owner.

EUR5 for a massive, delicious pizza is the cost in the imbiss, whereas pizza in the restaurant is EUR6. Seeing as it was a nice day we took our pizza outside and sat on the benches provided. I can highly recommend the Pizza Bella Italia. It's about 12", comes with salami, lots of cheese and huge chunks of roasted pepper, courgette (zucchini) and other veg. There are bowls of sliced chili peppers around just incase you want spicy. Basically everything in the imbiss is EUR5; pizza, pasta - salads might be slightly cheaper.
