From Chicago, first time at PO today. Here are some thoughts:…read more -I've been wanting to try the pizzeria after going to the main Oliva restaurant, which is located nearby, just a block away. -This is one of the nicest pizzerias I've ever been to. It has a very bright interior with white decor and big windows that let you watch people walk by on the sidewalk. -We ordered two salads (wedge and spinach) and two pizzas (Margarita and pepperoni), and they were just right for 4 of us--1 man, 2 women, and 1 toddler who loves pizza. -The pepperoni pizza had a thinner crust, which was perfectly, lightly burnt. Great flavors, the best pepperoni pizza I've had in Merida. -The margarita had a medium crust, with a very nice light sauce, and delicious mozzarella cheese. It was also a very good pizza. -You've got to try this when you're in Merida. Service is good. Highly recommended!!

Pizza Oliva, located just a short walk from the flagship restaurant Oliva, lives up to the high standards of Okiva but serves mostly only pizza. It would be easy for you to come here and have a better pie than you could find in most cities in the world, and in Merida it is defintiely a contender for best pie. There are many pizza places worth trying and Pizza Oliva is at the top or near the top of that list, check it out! Happy eating from John Seeto!

Many people love Eskondida, its centrally located and its one of a few places in Merida that aim to…read moreserve New York style pizza. It's a challenge being in Merida for sure, the ingredients are hard to get consistently, I remember one time I couldn't find basil at Chedraui for over 6 weeks. So it's not an easy place to build a pizza empire, that much is true, but the owners here clearly care about quality and try to offer the best Merida can offer. The prices are not crazy but Merida is a very pizza heavy city so it's really about what are you looking for. I get the impression the decor is going for a New York pizza place, which is in theme. I've only been once and got spotty service, but Merida is certainly overall a bit hard to find long term teams with perfect service. For some folks, especially those looking for something that reminds them of NY style, this will be their spot. If you are into the New York style of pizza its worth a try, noting in advance its hard to replicate NY style outside NY. But if you are into Detroit, Chicago, Neopolitan, Sicilian, or other styles, just be aware this is shooting for NY style, not those other variants.

It makes sense, it is very cute inside, the servers are attentive, and the pizzas come out piping hot. That said, Merida is a very very saturated pizza market and it's likely if you ate your way around the city you might find other places you also like. The prices I think were a little high relative to other places you'd find not on Calle 60 (or 47), but they weren't ridiculous and I can see why some folks would call it their favorite in Merida. You should try it out and see how it moves you and share your experience for others. Happy eating from John Seeto!
