Sorbet de limón... el mismo desde 1907

Que delicia! Wonderful place. This jem has been here (across from the cathedral) since 1907! And they are still doing the ice cream the same way for more than 115 years. Honestly it's Wonderful to see places like this are still open and doing things the good ol' way! We came here as we were visiting Merida and their yummy typical restaurants and someone told us to come by and try their sorbets. Boy were we surprised! Their flavors are amazing! Full of flavor but not overwhelming. As a sour- glavor lover it was a must for me to try the limón sorbet and WOW! not too lemony nor too sweet. When I asked how it was made, the man behind the counter smiled and simply said : well just shaved ice and freshly squeeze limón juice which is prepared daily. My father is a big peanut lover so he asked for the "cacahuate" (peanut) sorbet and surprisingly it tasted like mazapan (crushed peanut powder Mexican candy) and we loved it! We then decided to order dome of their baked goods which tasted like biscotti vanilla slices which we did not know they also serve coffee which go well with the biscuits. Since we arrived a bit passed 9pm it was obvious closing time was upon us, yet the staff was glad to tell us much more about the place which might not be justified in a review, so my best recommendation is to go over and admire the ice cream and all the great photographs all over the walls. Also feel free to sit on their original chairs along their original marble tables which are a jem to see nowadays.

We stopped by why walking the scenic street and visiting museums close by. We sampled some cookies, ice cream, sorbet, as well as a couple pastries. Everything we had was tasty and we enjoyed a few unique items. It was cool to sit in an open air 100 year old candy shop. The service was fast and friendly. The cost was very reasonable as well. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and I would surely return to try other menu items.

    Great place to people watch!

Great place to people watch! Variety of traditional, Yucatan ice cream flavors and we find safe to try! Right in front of the plaza- serving as a wonderful spot to take in the spirit of Merida! This Sorbet place has been here since 1907, obviously doing something right!

The sorbets are quite nice. A very traditional place that takes you back to what ice cream shops were like.

This was our favorite place to grab a sweet sorbet treat while we visited Merida. There were many flavors on the menu (some of which we didn't know), but we tried something new every night and always enjoyed our choices. We were able to order easily inside but there was also at least 1 waiter visting both the inside and outside tables to take orders too. With our limited Spanish we had no problem communicating the size and flavor to the cashier. There is plenty of seating here if you eat on site. If you sit outside you will be approached by the people trying to sell you their trinkets, but they weren't that distracting. It's also easy to head right across the street to the Plaze to enjoy your treat on a park bench there. The portions of sorbet were just the perfect size. And everything was so fresh and flavorful. We didn't try any of the pastries but they looked fantastic too.

Really delicious sorbet, with lots of local flavor options. Our guide took us here and he is a Merida resident and this is his favorite ice cream place in town. I had the coco (coconut) and it was great, and the pastries I bought to eat the next day were also good. One of the other girls in my travel group fell into mud on their way to the shop, and the manager let her rinse off out back, and I thought that was really kind. Great experience all around!

My group flew in from Chicago, in the middle of a cool Midwest summer the heat of the Yucatan hit like a ton of bricks. At the end of our walking tour I was drenched in sweat. Ice cream never tasted so good! I had the mantecado, a flavor similar to yet richer than American vanilla. There's a good reason why Helados Colon has been open for decades... not only is the ice cream and sorbet delicious, but in this weather, it could save your life!

Liked the artwork to the left of the counter. Think she might have brain freeze

The ice cream was bad. My father paid for my son's ice cream and mine and then he had to throw it out. Yes it was that bad.
