Pizza Shack is probably the best pizza you'll find in Opelousas, although that admittedly isn't saying a whole lot. The pizza is good, but I wouldn't call it great. It's consistently decent and worth trying if you're in the area. One thing they absolutely get right is the beer--it's hands down the coldest in town, which is a huge plus. The biggest drawback is the restaurant itself. It's very small, so it often feels overcrowded, and the interior is dark and has a worn, somewhat dirty appearance. A brighter, more updated atmosphere would make a big difference and make the dining experience much more enjoyable. Overall, the food is solid enough that I'll come back, especially for a cold beer and a pizza, but the atmosphere keeps it from being more than a 3-star experience. Stopped in on Tuesday prior to Turkey Day. So, I get that it's a small town and a holiday week...but goodness. What a poor experience. There were four in my party, we came in at 6pm. We were seated within seconds, so it was a good start. The bathroom was clean, when i went to wash my hands. And as i took a brief peek through the arcade, someone brought our table water. After I got back to the table, it was about fifteen minutes before we had our order taken. We ordered two personal pizzas, one medium pizza, and a shrimp po boy. I asked for some olives to be subbed to another veggie because im allergic. They dont do substitutions. So, I paid extra for vegetables. Kind of odd given that olives are higher priced food items than bell peppers or mushrooms, but whatever. After about 45 minutes, everyones drink was empty, and my fiance decided she wanted to play some games in the meantime. We loaded up an arcade card and toyed around for 15 minutes. While three young children, completely unsupervised smashed every button, screen, or setting possible on every game we played. We got message that our food was finally there. The food was good, my pizza shack house pizza with mini shrimps was surprisingly tasty. We asked for some to go boxes once we finished eating, and after about 10 minutes of waiting.... i just got up and grabbed them from the counter... we walked out of the restauranted at 8:10... So.... Stopped by on my way from Baton Rouge to Shreveport to grab a bite to eat. I called in an order for a 9" pizza with Canadian bacon, shrimp, pineapple, and extra sauce. The place is pretty run-down and crappy looking, but that doesn't faze me; some of the best food comes from run-down little holes in the wall. The first thing I noticed when opening the box was that there was no cheese. None. Not sure if that's their "thing" but it might catch some folks by surprise. The next thing I noticed was how spicy the sauce is, probably the spiciest pizza sauce I've ever had. It definitely made my mouth tingle. I liked it, though. If the sauce was just a tad bit sweeter it would have been great. The crust was thin and cracker-y. Overall the pizza was pretty tasty; it wasn't the best but it was pretty good. Well, it serves pizza and is a shack, so I guess one could say it's as advertised. This is the type of establishment where the lunch crowd shows up more for beer than the food, which should never be the case unless you serve a proprietary beer. The 7in pizza came on Walmart Baboli type crust and leaves much to be desired. The dining area is very dark and understandably so. It seems very dirty and nothing tops off a lunch experience like stepping out into the sunlight and having that moment while your eyes are adjusting to wonder if you are actually waking up from a bad dream. Staff seems very indifferent to customers and most sit around hanging out and speaking unprofessionally about whatever topic comes to mind. The one bright spot of the meal was the garlic bread sticks which were decent.
