Was starving after a 5 hour drive and decided this is where we were going to eat. Walked in and was not greeted, we were stared at and made to feel uncomfortable. Felt like a tv show where outsiders walked into a room and everyone there just went dead silent. The only reason I give this a 3 is because there is not as many options as I would have hoped. The food is pretty decent, but it is a little greasy. They kept bringing fresh stuff out (we went around 7-8 pm). Also, if you are a college student and bring your student ID they will give you a 15% discount. Let's face it. I am just not a fan of this establishment. If you are into eating as much as you can and you don't care about quality, this place is for you. Lots of people say "but the chicken is good", ok...so call it chicken ranch? Anyway, I know plenty of people who like this chain, I do not. I came here for a work lunch, so, not a choice. I haven't dined at a Pizza Ranch in years and I don't tend to again if I can help it. This particular location has horrible parking. The place is huge inside and seemingly never-ending, however, there is practically no parking. Myself amd others in my group had to park a block away. So, I guess that is a positive to walk off all those calories. It was lunch time and they had a hard time keeping it fresh. There was a seasonal salad that they advertised as a limited special looked surprisingly good. Sadly, the reality was nothing like the photo on their website. I got cat fished. The positive? The ONE thing this place has that most ANY establishment does not....foot stools for little people at the bathroom sink. As a parent, I noticed this right away and appreciated the thoughtfulness. my husband order a chicken meal which mashed potatoes to be delivered on sunday december 31. it was delivered on time however, he got wedges instead of mashed potatoes. when he called, to complain, he was told that they were out of mashed potatoes. he was never asked if substituting was ok. he hates wedges. i didn't eat them because i can't. nothing was done to correct or rectify the problem. as much as it costs to eat from here, you should either get what you order or at least be given a different choice if needed. better yet, something to make the paying customer happy so they go back to eat and not put up bad reviews like this read more

The store opens at 5pm for buffet. But food items are not available not until "past" 5pm. Silverware is a big issue to me. I do not think they comply with the State standard in washing their silverwares-dirty and they have stains! Mgmt need to change the chemical solution. They have watermarks too. Also, wet plates! :( By state rule, these should be air dry before allowing customers to use them. Their glasses are greasy too!!! When you fill your glass with soda, you will see the grease on your liquid, gross. This place can be LOUD. Hope management would have a poster on wall to be considerate to other customers. Kids are too noisy and uncontrollable most of the time. When you are having dinner and trying to relax, nobody wants to be in a noisy place. Management should move the play area at the back. That would be a big help. Resto can be crowded most of the time, hopefully bigger place someday soon! Food is definitely goood! I love their chicken, green beans and mash potato! Terrible customer service and very dirty. Floors were a mess and not vacuumed and tables weren't wiped down. We had a big group and called months in advance for the party room and only got the chained up area in the corner. They said when we reserved what was supposed to be the party room that the game room would definitely be running and of course they were wrong. Definitely should've just went to Happy Joes. Very bad experiance at the Pizza Ranch in Pella. We stopped in just as the lunch buffet was coming to an end. We bought the buffet. They stopped the service. Here is my expectation. Anytime you have a buffet you provide the service to everyone that has purchased the buffet until they are done eating, yes you can stop selling it or offering it to new customers but you have to give the people who pay, what they paid for. Nasty experiance details - they just left pizza that was on the buffet sit there. Stuff got dried up. Mashed potatoes had a crust, green beans were disgusting, chicken was falling apart and nasty. My daughter had an unsweeted ice tea and that tasted weird. She dumped it and poured another and the color was different. Not a good thing about that meal. Dirty floor, water stained ceiling tiles. Pizza Ranch should revoke this dumps franchise. read more

This is a very bad place. I want to state I use to manage two separate Pizza ranches. I know full well the way the food should be. I now work for a company that orders from them several times a month. Every time I've had the food its been soggy and has a old oil taste to it. For this reason I have started to persuade them to order from other restaurants. read more

Hands down the nicest Pizza Ranch I have visited. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I travel 4-5 days a week and when in Iowa I try to make it to a PR. This one will be added to the top of the list when I am in the area. Try the buffalo chicken pizza it's amazing! read more

Most unwelcome environment. Do not go there. The sign says open until 9. They said buffet closed. We asked if we could order from menu. They reluctantly said yes. A huge group of people came in behind us for the buffet they basically turn them away. The girl at the counter says the staff leave at 8:30 and just mangers stay so they can't serve them. We order to dine in they give us food to go. As soon as we leave lights go off. There was a party in the back. Another adult group they told needed to leave. If you want to close by 8 then post that and close at 8. Why a college town doesn't want to stay open longer on a Friday night is beyond me. Workers kept looking at clock or watches mainly the older workers were the rude ones the young staff were just following directions from adults. Why are you even open if you do not want to serve the public. Will not be giving my business to them. read more

I am astonished at a couple of the reviews I have seen here. What the heck does someone in LA know about pizza in Pella Iowa! If he was actually ever in town and came back for a visit, I would be HAPPY to buy him a any pizza of his choice. Getting a pizza from the Pizza Ranch is something I look forward to every Sunday evening. My kids all expect to watch a movie as a family and to be treated to a very good pizza from the Ranch. They have a great selection, fast service, friendly workers, and a quick delivery if you need it... I have been a customer for YEARS and plan to continue. Didnt serve tennis team when when they were late.even though they called ahead. The team ate there for years prior to this.

The worker at the front desk was friendly. She started us off with a salad bar as the pizza was not due until 5pm. The salad bar did not have much to offer at all. Very small area for a salad bar. The pizza was out about 5:05pm and the chicken was hot and fresh and tasted great. The pizza was cut into small slices and there was only limited space for about 4 pizzas where as other pizza ranches I have been to have had a lot more to choose from and more space. There was only one dessert pizza that was peach flavor nothing else was there. I think other pizza ranches do better. read more
